Thanks so much.
I have almost finished my light weight cotton/linen cardigan. I had tremendous problems trying to sew on the buttons, I did plan to have backing buttons but after a dozen or more tries I gave up.
I made the button band and some decorative parts of the neckband section with eyelet cable, i like how it looks but didn’t anticipate the problem of not knowing which hole goes on each button (esp when it is on, it’s impossible to tell and easily misaligned). I currently have stitch markers on the inside but I need a permanent solution.
Please help me with some ideas how to solve this.
It’s perfect. Very neatly worked, Creations.
Could you put a small stitch with a sewing thread near the correct buttonholes, some slightly contrasting color that’s easily seen?
Oh it’s great you said about the coloured thread because i thought that too, tried it 4 times and gave up thinking it must be a bad idea! But if you think it would be ok then I’ll have another go. I was finding it hard to know which stitch to put it in and how to join it.
It’s far from perfect but it’s as good as it will get and I will wear it which is a massive win.
I did a lot of new things on this cardigan not all of them worked out but all of them added to my learning.
Wow, that is amazing. It looks like a store-bought sweater, and I mean that in a highly complimentary way. Really nice.
First project with improv’? Outstanding! Whatever you ended up doing, the shape works really well on you!
My mind also went to colorful thread. I was gonna suggest a colorful rim on the top one, then you know where to start and work your way down… ![]()
I haven’t got back to it yet but I’m half wondering if I can make a little coloured pattern on the inside. My sewing skills are seriously low though so I would do well to keep my expectations low!
Well, the good news is sewing something simple on this shouldn’t be too much more complicated than weaving in some ends. You could do something with the same needle and thread as usual and treat this as a way to expand past what you already know how to do…
You could also crochet it though. You could crochet a simple slip stitch line around the hole to make it pop ![]()
Here’s what I’ve mostly been up to lately. Mostly crochet, I’ve really taken a liking to it! This is how my little foot blanket is going. I make strips of 12 squares and I plan to make it 6 large. I sew the squares on 6 at a time on the length, and 2 at a time on the width. When I am done with all the squares, I think I’ll crochet a border around it to bring the whole thing together. I’ve reordered more of the white and the store told me it was gonna be a new bath, so I cross my fingers that there won’t be too big of a color difference from it ![]()
I’ve also been doing a cross stitch that’s a somewhat long project and I’ve been wanting small projects to do in between so I picked up a little booklet and colors I’d be missing to crochet some rainbows. Right now I’m making a cloud with some white chenille (I’ve no idea where my stitches are, so much eyeballing going on! ![]()
) Thinking of getting teeny googly eyes and buttons to stick them on after I sew them on, I think that could look funny ![]()
Beautiful blanket and clever crochets. The way that the color blocks in the blanket are interspersed should mask any dye lot differences. Fingers crossed.
That book is a real find.
You definitely have to pay attention. I kept a notepad by my side and marked the rows. Also, it was written over a few pages and some of those pages had different size instructions on them as well. Just need to pay attention. The instructions are very well explained.
I’m always amazed by people who manage to make crochet look good. Yours is superb! Beautiful colours and so neat, it looks a treasure.
A lot of it is having good patterns. The whole art of crochet has come light-years from where it was when I started in the 1970s. Using lighter yarns also helps, as crochet uses more yarn and thus often looks clunky compared to knitting. But I love the amount of texture crochet lace has as opposed to knitting, so I do both.
So cute. I can imagine these on a weather map sweater!
That has to be the most adorable cloud ever! Well done.
I have to share this with my friend! She is a very handy crafter and made the absolutely cutest hanging mobile for her grandson’s crib she will love this!!!
@Victorianera What did you decide to make with the baby yarn?
