Even though the weather hasn’t got the news, we’re heading into fall: crisp air, gorgeous colors and cool temps. It’s a dream here on the US east coast where summer is holding on for at least another month.

It’s certainly cooled off here. There will be no opportunity to wear the summer cardigan ive been making until next year. After swatchin, dithering, knitting, frogging and swatching again I finished the folded hem yesterday. Still swatching and dithering on the buttonband.
Just to have a change, yesterday i decided to try out a bit of lace. Fingering weight bamboo cotton which is super slippery and very hard to keep from flying off the needles. It feels so fiddly but when worked up it looks much chunkier and not nearly as delicate as i had imagined. The traditional Shetland lace knitters had yarn finer than this, how did they do it???!

I do not have any thing on my needles yet. I am saving it for our trip to Va. for Christmas. Then I will have something to work on while he is driving.

You’re too kind. The summer cardigan isn’t much to see, it’s just a plain black stockinette cardigan. It doesn’t sound summery being black but where i am there are only a few days when a sweater isn’t needed. I posted a pic of the finished body with sleeves last month.
Several dozen swatches later I think I’m almost ready to knit the buttonband. I have one more test to do. I have knitted and frogged many meters of band and I’m eager to get on with the final one.
It’s beautiful! I suppose you could add a strand of something else with it to tame it. I have trouble with the start of feather & fan stitches being too tight. I made a beautiful baby blanket and I think I had to add a row of crochet to get it to lie flat. I hope I. Never forget to start with a larger needle! Also, I let the grandmother pick the yarn. Unfortunately, I wasn’t careful with what I picked to show her and it’s not machine dryable. I wonder what it looks like now!
I’d like tips for the top edge too. It doesn’t look great either! I think I tried crochet decreases. Maybe this isn’t the final picture.

Beautiful blanket with this very pretty lace pattern. This tutorial shows the beginning and bind off with a scalloped edge on each. It looks like a finish of the 4 row pattern and then the bind off. Is that what you did?

I have so many WIPs but, alas, I have to rest and ice my right thumb! 
I was working on my 7th baby blanket of the year, a scarf using stash, and then I got a bug to make crochet bracelets. I was going to buy friendship bracelet string but realized I should use stashed beads and crochet thread or yarn because I have way too much! Then I went to Hobby Lobby to buy another skein of yarn for the baby blanket because I made it too wide to complete with the original two skeins I bought. I was so amazed to find the same dye lot at a different location! I just “took a look” at crochet thread and ended up with three balls of that and 3 tubes of beads!
So it’s Pinterest and YouTube for me right now.
I would like your input on edging for the blanket. I think the pattern used worsted weight yarn and I’m using DK. I’ve done a lot of borders but this started with a garter stitch border. I don’t know if that will matter or how to add a border that is good with it. Thanks!

What a haul! I admire you for knitting baby blankets and so many so far this year. Definitely ice that thumb and give it a spa day.
Nicky Epstein has several books of edgings some of which may be in your public library. They’re great for inspiration even if you don’t copy one of the designs.

Gosh, so many lovely projects.
I really like the crochet border on the feather and fan, it makes it look extra special and goes so well with the sheen on the yarn.
I find if I work lace stitches with fine yarn i get a sore thumb, I need to be careful.

Thank you! My concern is that the top and bottom edge are a few (six?) rows of garter stitch. Would you do the same edge there as the sides? It’s garter stitch rib. There are three knit stitches on each side with S1PW being the first “knit” stitch on each row.
I like the consistency of continuing the garter stitch border around the four edges. It may be easier to pick up a half stitch in from that slip stitch edge.
Another possibility is to leave the slip stitch edge as is. It may be finish enough but that’s your preference.

I made the blanket over 3 years ago! I think I keep great notes, but when I go back I find I don’t know what I meant!
My notes: Cast on curls badly. Made a swatch to work on correction and it turned out fine without correcting.
Single crochet edge on CO edge with H hook. SC 3 tog in dips and 3 SC in peaks.
And: Also did BO edge for more pronounced and matching line. (Not really sure what that means unless I did the same crochet fix as the CO edge.
I’ve just avoided F&F since then. I prefer baby blankets with no holes, so I’ve done several of Snufflebean’s knitted ones this year. I LOVE Loops & Threads Carousel Twist for Knitted Blanket Patterns Archives - Snufflebean Yarn .

Thanks! It would be different to add the garter edge sides now since there’s already one on the bottom. Are you talking about a pick-up-and-knit method? It curls quite a bit as it is right now. I haven’t given it much thought yet. I just thought I’d mention it here.

Those yarns are so pretty! I like the pink flakes in the white one, like ice cream sprinkles
Everyone mentions casting on and binding off loosely with this stitch pattern partly to avoid the curl. I bet washing will let the yarn ease up a bit too. (Or at least that’s what I tell myself.) I like the idea of the crochet edge to finish it off.
I’m often very careful to leave precise notes which I later can’t interpret at all.
How can you not like a site called Snufflebean Yarn? It’s new to me and a fund of pretty patterns. Thank you!
To me this reads as working the same crochet edge on the bind off edge to match the one added to the cast on edge. Perhaps you did this on a swatch?
On the side edges which are garter rib could you work a line of crochet slip stitch to make one flat line and then work the edging crochet into that (instead of trying to work the crochet edge stitch directly into the garter rib which i imagine is a bit tricky to work into)?
