Wow it just blew me away. My heart was hurting from all the love and happiness.
It really goes to show how much giving can bring to you (even if it was just one square that I did). I had this crazy thought this morning, what would an
Afghan Club
be like.
Well I have crazy thoughts while still in bed… but can you imagine … it went something like this: People sign up to be in the Afghan Club. Then each month, no wait every 3 months? Or each month, one person is selected. The rest of the members knit one 12 inch square and in a certain amount of time, say one or two months, everyone then sends their square to the chosen person. That person seams them up and has her afghan!
WITHOUT HAVING TO KNIT ALL THOSE SQUARES!
Ha. Was that a sleepy idea or a good one?
Point is I want ONE OF THOSE AFGHANS and how the heck am I gonna knit all those squares? NO, I will do it… just take my time and make different squares inspired by the lovely ones that are there.
Julie was kind enough to send me a pattern for the little sheep.
And I have to do Ingrid’s sweater.
And then there are some other really gorgeous ones I hope I can do.

You have all those balls of yarn that you’ve bought a few of here and there–imagine what a beautiful afghan that would make!! I swoon at the thought! As long as the squares were close in size, you could have such variety in color and materials, AND get to use the luscious yarn in your stash for something other than a scarf!
Well, that’s a good idea sort of Ingrid, but I have some skeins of yarn that are so outrageously beautiful I have to put them into something special.
I’m going to make an afghan out of squares problably with
something simple… I love Plymouth Galway Highland Heather for some reason, but I might mix that with what we used for Amy’s afghan, they look nice together…
The beautiful yarns I have in these big bags I drag back and forth with me from the city up here to the country, it’s ridiculous, but then I grab a color I need and put it a little into hats/scarves etc… Sweaters soon I hope. I have this orange/green stuff staring at me with loop-de-loops/ it’s like a mohair mixture, really different
then I have an INCREDIBLE PINK mohair/cashmere blend looks like heaven dancing
and of course all the natural browns I bought at Rhinebeck…
I’m so happy! there are 3 deer in my woods right now. We hadn’t seen any for most of the winter and I thought maybe the hunters killed them all… and there is a baby running to keep up with the other two!
I took a picture. Also, how weird… I went to buy some bird food, and they had this big bag of cardinal food so I bought that and lo and behold… a red cardinal appeared out of nowhere! How does that happen!!! I hadn’t seen him either all winter. STRANGE THIS WORLD WE LIVE IN.
I frogged my vest
but I found a scarf that I never finished weaving the ends in, and instead of working on the new vest (I got 3 rows done) I found I was
very inspired to work with colors and found some pretty little bits of more mohair and crocheted an edge all around the scarf and put some fringe and it got completely transformed.
Designing is so neat, it really is fun! Like painting with yarn.

Why dont you post in the Gen forum and see who might be interested? Im thinking we’d need at least 30 peeps so each person would have a 5x6 throw…

Does each partcipant get to choose their own colors?
Choose a yarn (You might like Galway, but I would DeFINITELY want machine washable)

Well, after a depressing couple of days what with Christopher Reeve’s wife passing and a young girl here in town murdered, I feel a little better and mainly due to CREATING! I’ve decided to really do it this summer, something I’ve wanted to do for awhile, make and sell stuff at this farmer’s market I know of. Actually, there are other places too during the summer so I need to really get knitting.
I already have some little bags from the past year but I’m looking for unusual things to make, with my own sense of color and design thrown in.
I’m going to do some prototypes ? and see what’s best.
I made this yesterday. I happen to like wearing headscarves in the summer esp in the Catskills (mountain sun) to keep my forehead covered coz I already had a dose of skin cancer there.
The pix don’t really show the gold up much but it’s more in your face in person. It looks good slung around the neck too. The little gold bead, I have a whole bag of… can you imagine this fantastic lady in Martha’s Vineyard who owns a bead shop, had a whole bunch of stuff out front and a sign that said FREE STUFF. So I got all these beads free. It’s really pretty too, there’s a lion’s head you can’t see in the picture. So I put that on at the last minute to see what it looks like. I started out
thinking I’ll charge $7. Then after an hour I thought hm: $10.
Then after 2 hours, the price was up to $15. ! Now with the 3 hours work and the gold bead I’m thinking $20!!! Why not!
Well how do you price things? I know it’s difficult, you don’t want to give your stuff away but you want to sell it! I think it also depends on the crowd, whether it’s a Money crowd or Good Ol’ Folks. Speaking of Martha’s Vineyard, that was the first time I visited in many years (my DH’s brother) and there was a woman selling incredible sweaters she made, for like $850, no more, some were $1200. I gasped when she told me the price. There were these special shell buttons and it was glorious local wool.
Well here’s a pic of my hunble beginning although it’s pretty chic on: Oh! I’m going to make some bikini tops out of this yarn, it’s perfect I think.

Chix is selling these scarfey/hatty things that are oblong and a bit more fitted than yoru headscarf…they button in the back and look like a hat from the front, but you can have a ponytail coming out the back…for $30-36!

Ok St. Pat’s day is over thank goodness, it’s just so big here in NY you wouldn’t believe the bars over on 2nd Avenue omg you have to be squeezed in with a shoehorn and the men are all THESE GREAT BIG GUYS like firemen and policemen and bagpipe players. Even though my hubahub is Irish we do not go into these bars anymore, it’s just too noisy, too messy, too wet, too loud and the Guinness is served in plastic cups and not as good as well, it’s pretty good now that I think about it…
I started a shrug this morning that will take forever coz it’s on Size 7 needles but it’s from this GORGEOUS yarn that I’ve been coddling for weeks… the baby alpaca pictured below 650 yards ! I went back to Suss Designs and looked at the shrug there I liked that I had tried to figure out but it didn’t come to me til I saw it again
and it’s just a simple simple big square, rectangle rather that’s folded over and sewn (why I didn’t see that the first time I don’t know)
but I am doing it in k2, p. ribbing. I think it should be sweet and stretchy and not too warm but we’ll see.
AND I’m in the middle of a little red vest that I’m winging it on… I seem to wing a lot of patterns lately… I started without enough yarn as usual but I got some more (Lambs Pride Bulky) and in a different cornflower blue so I’m going to try intarsia for the first time.
Well, it’s the Sunday flea market today so I’m off to look at what the yarn ladies have made. You cannot afford to buy from them coz their prices are so ridiculously high yet other people seem to be BUYING FROM THEM!
Maybe that will be me this summer if I can just get enough stuff knit up.
Btw, I ventured into Bergdorf Goodman where I haven’t been for a year I guess and they had a PLAIN and I mean PLAIN bulky cardigan in reasonably nice blue wool, soft, cute and

I just stood there looking at that number for awhile. Ha. AND they had another type of shrug, tiny, lacy really sweet that I wanted to make immediately. It was I forgot $225 or something, and then when I was in Suss’s store I saw this same shrug. So I asked the salesgirl if Suss sold that to Bergdorf and she said yes! Suss is charging $193. And the pattern wasn’t available but is coming out in her spring book.
I think I can figure this one out though! Oh to be a master knitter!

Our cats were so happy to see the snow all gone when we got upstate last Thursday. MOUSE HUNTING! they yelled and off they went.
Then we got up this morning and this is what it looked like:
Oh well. It’s disappearing fast. I am working on the Torture Sockettes as posted over in general knitting. They are cute though. But I think there’s a way to do these easier. I saw it in a pattern for fingerless gloves and am going to try it.
Meanwhile I’m surrounded by knitting magazines and looking for the best little lacy bolero shrug pattern to make a bunch of and sell. But I think I’d be better off trying to design my own because I don’t want the patter copyright issue.
Made some GREAT BAGS but I’m too intent on knitting today to post them right now so I’ll do it LATER!
