Shandeh is a Bernat Blogger Now!

It is here about 1/2 way down. It is on her KH blog and not the blogspot blog

Thanks Sara. I finally figured it out. Had to “Slap My Fro!”

:roflhard: :roflhard: Her blog did exploe this morning!

Yesterday I was out driving, and noticed a lot of wild blackberries along the side of the road. When I was a little girl, we used to go berry picking a lot in the summer. We always came home with ticks crawling on our clothes, so our mother would make us strip in the yard, and run inside for a bath. Then, she would check our heads to make sure no ticks were in our hair. Yes, I was a country girl.

So, here I am 42 years old, longing to eat the berries growing beside the road. I thought, “Man those blackberries would be so sweet and juicy. Maybe I’ll come out here tomorrow and pick some.”

The further I drove, the more I thought about it.

Well, I decided that I may as well pick them right then and there. I mean it was about 5:00 in the afternoon, the sun was still shining but not too hot. I knew that if I waited til the next day, I would probably never do it.

I turned my car around, and looked for a safe place to park near the berries. Then, I looked in the trunk of my car and found a plastic bag. I also grabbed my umbrella, because I knew I would need it to pull away weeds and stuff like that.

I made my way to the berry patch and started picking. Ouch! Those stupid briars hurt! Carefully, I worked my way through the first bush until all the black ones were picked. Then, I continued picking all the ones along the edge of the street.

Standing up, I realized there were lots of nice big ones further back, so I weaseled a way in through the bushes and started picking the “GOOD ONES”. I got so excited, imagining what I was going to make. A cobbler? A crisp? A pie? Jelly?

After about an hour, I had about 2 cups, so I decided to quit. You can’t beat free food!

On the way back to the car, I did a good check of my clothing and brushed my fingers through my hair. No ticks luckily. When I got home, I took a shower, and had my hubby check me all over when he got in from work.

Here are the blackberries!

Oh yummmmmmy!!! I love blackberry cobbler! Those berries look so juicy and sweet! Enjoy! :inlove:

Sorry you got lost in my offsite blog…I guess I should have been more specific

My granny used to make blackberry cobbler, but she called them “dewberries”. She put refrigerator biscuits in and they turned into dumplings (I think). I remember us picking them together, too.

[sigh] I miss her.

Miss mine too, Lisa. :frowning:

I like the sound of the word “dewberries”! Makes them sound even more tasty! :inlove:

Angelia, I felt so silly when I realized I was looking in the wrong place. Silly me. Oh well, I got over it. I’m a big girl - REALLY big.

Lisa and Ang, I wish I could make cobbler for all of us! That would be fun. We’d be eating cobbler, drinking tea, and then going to wash our hands so we could knit. That would make a perfect day!

Me, too! Paula Deen made a blueberry cobbler that really reminded me of it. Just substitute and you’re off!

Oh, Sandy, that does sound like a perfect day! Slap mah fro! :rofling:

I just love cobbler in general–blueberry, blackberry, strawberry, peach, a mix of all four… :inlove: :inlove: Oh, and it’s tasty, too, if you pour a wee bit of whipping cream or half and half on it… :inlove: :inlove:

Me and granny always had it with ice cream.

You can’t say “Granny and I” in East Texas! :fingerwag:

Sandy, what’s plane fare from Houston to where you are?

You can’t really say it here, either… :rofling:

MMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmm PEACH COBBBBBBBLERRRRRR!!!

It’s my favorite of all the cobblers. :inlove: :inlove: And, I make a darn good one! It’s my grandmother’s recipe and it will blow your tastebuds away! I’d bring it to the BBQ, but I don’t think it would transport well… :frowning:

“Cobbler a la Mode” - pure heaven :inlove:

“Granny and I” wouldn’t fly in my neck of the woods either, unless you go uptown for business transactions!

Hmmm…I have no idea on the plane fare, but I bet it wouldn’t take too long. I’m in North Carolina. Hey, if you’re coming, let me know so I can hire a troop of maids to clean my house first! :roflhard:

Did she just say “Slap mah fro”?

Ohhh dear!

I love peach cobbler and I ADORE cherry cobbler with a crumble topping. Mmmmmmmmm…and knitting! So cobblers and knitting and tea sound heavenly!

Yes, cobblers, knitting and tea. Perfect combination. Add some friends, and it’s even better!

I get the knitting and tea every day.

Okay, now WHICH recipe should I use for making the blackberry whatever? I washed the berries and put them in a ziploc bag in the fridge. Time to quit staring at them and cook 'em up!

Here’s one I found for “Blackberry Crisp”

Blackberry Crisp for Two
Ingredients:
2 cups fresh or frozen blackberries
4 Tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. cornstarch
1 1/2 tsp. water
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
1/2 cup quick cooking oats
1/4 cup all purpose flour
1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 tsp. ground good quality cinnamon
1/4 cup cold unsalted butter
vanilla ice cream
Directions:
Place blackberries in a buttered 1-quart baking dish. In a small bowl, combine sugar, cornstarch, water, and lemon juice until smooth. Pour over berries. Combine the oats, flour, brown sugar and cinnamon. Cut in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over berries. Bake uncovered at 375 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes or until filling is bubbly. Serve warm with ice cream. Serves two.

I want the recipe! Please! Please!

Here ya go!!

FRUIT COBBLER
Preheat oven to 325

3c fruit
1 stick (1/2 cup) butter
*3/4 cup sugar
1 c water or fruit juice
1/2 c self-rising flour
1/2 c sugar
1/3 c milk

 1. Combine first 4 ingredients in 9x9 pan. Heat on stove until butter is melted.

 2. In separate bowl, mix flour and sugar; add milk and stir until smooth.

 3. Pour batter evenly over fruit.

Bake 25-35 minutes.

*This amount is approximate. Tart fruits, such as cherries or blackberries, wil take 1 - 1/2 c sugar. Taste heated fruit mixture before adding batter to determine if more sugar is necessary.

If using canned fruit, 1/4 - 1/2 c sugar should be added since most canned fruits already have added sugar. Also, reduce water to 1/2 cup since canned fruits are packed in some kind of syrup and thus do not need as much liquid added.

You can also be really wicked and put wee pats of butter on top of the batter once you’ve poured it in the pan. My grandmother also sprinkled the top of the cobbler with sugar right after pulling it out of the oven.

Also, this recipe doubles perfectly, so you can make it in a 13x9 pan if you want, or you can just double the batter if you like a lot of crusty goodness. :inlove:

Thank you Angelia! Yummmmmmmy! I can’t wait to try it! :happydance:
