I have alot of weight to lose. Last year this same time I was saying “Next year, I’ll be my goal weight!” Didn’t happen and I’m still fluffy. Anyways, I got on a stairstepper that was given to me (nothing fancy) and tried to do 15 minutes on it. Only lasted for 8. My thighs were trembling, I was sweating and panting… my 3 year old DS offered me a glass of water! LOL!
This evening, before we pick up the kids, I’m doing some pilates. I just need to be consistent in exercise and eating right… but its been so hard! :-x
ok im a day late. i work weekends and ostensibly i work 12 hour shifts but its always more like 14 hour shifts and on monday im wrecked. so here it is tuesday and im finally ready to meet this challenge. i have a gallon of water at my side and am about to go stretch. when seth naps today i will do the treadmill. im excited!!
im so glad i get to read what all of you have to say about your journeys.
I am doing great on the water and walking not so great on the stretching. I just got a yoga tape from the library maybe that will help me get over that hump.
I’m off to go try it now. Wish me luck!
Well, I survived our 48 hr fast. It was hard, but I felt great. Last night we treated ourselves to our first meal back at the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse, which is this amazing teahouse with awesome food. It also is where we got married :flirt:
Although we are back eating, I really don’t like the heavy eating that I was doing before. So maybe that’s good!!
I’m still doing the workout thing, although I took yesterday off and will take tomorrow off because we’re going to be out of town for the day. I guess it’s okay that I’m taking two days of because I’m doing a three hour yoga workshop on Sunday :happydance: :happydance:
I’m back!! I’ve been avoiding this thread because I didn’t feel like doing anything. Well, yesterday I started feeling BLECH again because I’m just toooo pudgy. Anyway, I got DH to go on a walk w/ me this morning while the kids were still in bed. We walked 1.7 mi in 29 mins. Not a record-breaking pace, but it was nice and I was sweating when we got back. So, that’s a good thing.
So, for the next month (or so), I’m going to try and walk every day, and here’s my ticker for tracking it:
And, I’m going to work on losing just 15 pounds right now. (I really want to lose about 25, but I need an interim goal.) And here’s my ticker for tracking that:
And Angelia is absolutely right about the sleep!! When I am tired, I canNOT make it through the afternoon w/out horrible cravings, and I find myself rummaging through the pantry looking for high-carb snacks. BAD BAD BAD!!! No, no! :fingerwag:
I also wanted to say that if Ms. Hildie can lose something like 80-90 pounds, surely I can lose 15!!! Thank you, Hildie, for being a walking weight-loss inspiration!
Now … just for my own purposes, I need to summarize what I have now resolved to do:
[ul][li] Walk 1.7 miles/day w/ an overall goal of 65 miles by the end of Sept. – when the weather doesn’t permit it, I’ll use our elliptical instead.
[/li][li] Lose 15 pounds – I’d like to do this by the end of Sept, but that’s about 2.5 lbs/week, and I don’t know if I can do that. I think I may sign up with Weight Watchers next week. I need the encouragement they provide.
[/li][/ul]
OK … that’s enough for now. Goals are a good thing. :sun:
Though I must say, I don’t know where you’d lose those 15 lbs. Maybe toning and stamina are all you need? I just don’t see a need for weight loss for you.
Believe me, Angelia, it’s there!! I just hide it (fairly) well. I weigh as much now as I did in the 2nd trimester of pregnancy. :grrr: It makes me so mad.
Well this is just another great reason to come together and encourage each other!
:cheering:
The things I saw in the committment list (water, stretching, exercise) are things we can ALL use more of, so I’m joining in too!! With some special dietary stuff of my own of course. I’m on a “journey” of sorts right now to eventually eliminate all the things that seem to bother my system and all the things I’m just down right allergic to.
I too will be adding more yoga and pilates to my routine, both are easy and pretty portable for me even when traveling (I use DVDs and have nearly memorized one of them).
Any new goals/committments or news to report for this week?
I have read the book “Eat Right 4 Your Type” over the weekend…the Blood Type Diet as it is commonly called. There are some pretty powerful things in there and as a former Biology major, alot of it makes sense to me, so I’ll be following the food & exercise recommendations in there for a few weeks to see how it goes.
Well I totally sucked this past week. I did my three days of pilates but only did cardio i think once. was a total slacker this weekend and did NOTHING physical (unless you count purling). I’m always pretty good about my water intake, but there’s been a good amount of chai lately as well. more caffeine than usual, out of old bad habits I guess. and we went out for dinner twice this weekend. we had been pretty good about that.
i’m glad it’s monday and that means a new start to a new week!
I’m all there on the cardio, but the water and the stretching…not so much. I’ve been doing fairly well about the greasy, junky food, and I actually have water on my desk here at work at the moment, but I’m sure it will be replaced by Mountain Dew at some point before the afternoon is over.
Well, I’m happy to finally be able to join in :cheering: Sorry, I don’t know exactly what everyone is up to because I am lazy and didn’t read all 27 pages :teehee:
So, here’s the deal with me…I’m disabled and have been unable to do any exercise for years and have gained alot of wt as a result…I don’t eat much, as a matter of fact, I don’t eat enough…so my body has been clinging to all calories. Today I started making myself eat and I hope to graze all day and actually put away all of the food groups as I follow my food pyramid. And, it’s really not easy to make yourself eat! Especially food that is good for you! I’m a yogurt junky, but I’m afraid the yogurt that I love is chock full of sugar and I’m trying to eliminate processed sugar (sugar withdrawals suck!). Okay, that’s it for the diet (lifestyle change) portion.
As for exercise…I can’t walk because of my hip and leg…can’t ride a bike (against doc’s orders); no longer have a pool for swimming so I am doing an exercise program that was very successful for me a few years ago and that is the bodyflex system (which my doc has okayed), this works well for me because you sit while doing the routine…I am not able to stand for too long while working out.
Now, after I do this for a couple of months I hope to incorporate Joyce Vedral’s low wt/aerobic workout/fat burning in my workout routine which is a fantastic program, but I have to get my doc’s okay with this one and he’s skeptical about this one because I’m not sitting down for the whole thing.
Anyway, thought I’d jump in with my 2 cents…
Good Luck everyone :cheering:
So sorry to hear you’ve got limited motion, but I’m so glad you’re joining this effort anyway!
Funny you mention the BodyFlex. I bought one a while back, and only used it once, and now I’m selling it (contact me if you want it anyone!).
From my recent reading I need to be doing much more intense cardio and strength training exercises along with my yoga, etc.
As for grazing…I think we could all benefit from that small meals all day tactic. Hard to do if you don’t prepare things early (cuz a handful of chocolate chips could be a small meal too right??!).
When I did that successfully to boost my metabolism I would cook like a crazy person on Sunday and Wednesday to cover meals and snacks for the week…now I can hardly make the time daily - phew!
Thanks so much! I am quite excited that the doc has finally okayed an exercise program! The reason for my limited mobility and disability is that I have had several hip replacements (obviously not successful ones!), dislocations, other hip surgeries, yadda, yadda, yadda which have left me living in constant pain…I have been disabled since the mid 80s, so this has gone on for quite sometime. Since one of my hips partially dislocates quite easily I’ve been in and out of body braces, etc and unable to do any exercise for a few years now…to actually have the ok is exhilirating, at the same time, a bit scary. But, today I took it very, very easy and all is well :cheering: No dislocation which is beyond great and I’m still up, didn’t have to go directly back to bed…which is also fantastic :cheering: Baby steps, baby steps…I may only be able to only do baby steps forever…but, they are steps :cheering:
As for the grazing, you are so right, you do have to plan ahead and have healthy snacks available…this is key. Of course, lots of wather and green tea are a given.
