Went to the gym today and kicked my a$$. I gained back the pound I lost two weeks ago. I suck, :waah:

Now, now!! Remember lots of things can make your weight seem to fluctuate - water retention, if you ate something salty, etc. etc. etc. So don’t despair!!! After all, you went to the gym - in my book, that counts as a major accomplishment!! :cheering: :cheering:

Don’t forget that muscle weighs more than fat, and any initial toning up could just be you becoming more dense.

So I’ve been doing better with the water over the last couple of days, and now I have decided that I can no longer slack on the strenuous exercise piece. I know for a fact that I do well with cardio and strength training, and I can’t keep putting it off.

I got up this morning at 7’ish and rolled out of the bed and was on the road by 7:45. While I was out there doing this very sad but valiant effor to walk/jog, I realized that I’ve just had this total mental block to exercising lately! I have been telling myself that I don’t have enough time to exercise and that it’s going to be painful because it has been so long, and that it will take forever for me to get back to a good fitness level, and on, and on (and on). Too :grrr: much negativity!

So this morning when it got a little tough I had to keep telling myself ā€œI want to feel good about accomplishing something from my health goals today - dangit!ā€ And once I got home I did feel better. One or two or even 3 small things every day is where it has to start!

I realized too that I (and I’m guessing we all) can be pretty hard on myself. I have to keep reminding myself that starting slow only makes sense so I don’t burn out early. Nothing good comes quickly or easily, and if I don’t start taking SOME steps then I’m really never going to get where I need to be.

Anyone else have some positive self-talk or other ā€œpepā€ methods that work for you when you’re in a slump or trying to get into a positive healthy routine?

Sounds like everyone is very commited to a healthier lifestyle, and some are having problems now and then getting psyched to do so…we are only human! I am happy to hear that I am not the only one that has a difficult time getting into the routine.
I find that talking to someone else helps me, like we are doing here!

I, too, am getting a handle on the water intake, I’m supplementing with green tea (because of my medication I must have caffeine or I would sleep constantly!) rather than a soda which is good, much, much, much less sodium!

I am finding it very difficult to eat everything!!! I did get almost everything eaten yesterday, but it’s really hard! I was lacking in fruit, didn’t eat the required amt of grain…well, I didn’t eat the required amt of anything…no, I take that back, I did have the right amt of milk products. But, I have to look at it this way, even though I didn’t eat it all, I did eat the right foods!

As for exercise, I’m afraid that I am not able to do it today because of the stress that it put on my hip and leg yesterday I have a great deal of increased pain other than the normal, ā€œOh my gosh, I am dying because I worked out yesterdayā€ pain! So, I’m quite proud of myself for not doing what I’ve been known to do which is press on and hurt myself more. I hope to get back to the exercise routine tomorrow!!!

Good luck to you all!!!

:verysad:

I just ate the top layer (minus the 4 yucky ones) of a whitman’s sampler

:verysad:

I did have my 9th, 10th and 11th glass of water during the process, though… :?

EEP! Hilde!

I was going to start my talk you down from the ledge speech by sayingā€¦ā€œOk…now go to the kitchen and get a pitcher of waterā€¦ā€

But you got it covered.

A friend keeps telling me that it’s what you do MOST of the time that counts…and that seems to get me back on track when I’ve fallen off the wagon and into the vat of chocolate.

Vat of chocolate is right! I have to start bringing dinner to school if I’m going to be here this late all the time.

did I mention this box of chocolate has been in my box since valentine’s day :ick: It was a present from a kid last year.

LOL, well, when ya gotta have chocolate, I guess the age doesn’t matter!!

I am so very, very, very happy to say that processed sugar is tasting too yucky for me after just a few days of no sugar :cheering: :cheering:

And…I was able to work out again today, I’m very excited about that :cheering:

Riddle me this… why, oh why after being up all day, drinking water and green tea all day, why, oh why does the bladder kick in 20 minutes after you go to bed?! I must say, I pee as much or more during the night as I do all day. Just thought I’d share :roflhard:

Hey Hilde, what kind of green tea do you drink?
Anyone else drink lots of green tea?

Like, what brand??? We’re generic folks, here. I have to admit, though, i do like the sugar free lipton peach green tea, in a bottle, AND I like the celestial seasongs minty green tea. We’re too cheap to buy that very often, though.

I’ve just tried the Lipton sugar free green tea…I didn’t know that they had peach!!! Peach is my fave tea and I get it whenever we go to the Tea Room, as a matter of fact, I would just get their’s but, I’m shooting for green teas.
So, you don’t brew your own green tea then, from leaves? I am thinking about doing this, but I’ve never really brewed much tea from leaves, so I have to research it a bit. Right now, I’m loving Lipton’s already brewed tea, it’s way too easy!!

I love the roasted green tea (ā€œGracious Greenā€) from Zhena’s Gypsy Tea - and after having a lovely soy green tea latte at Soy Luck Club in NYC, I now have soy creamer in my green tea. Mmmmmm!

(Gypsy Tea’s raspberry Earl Grey is also yummy!)

So, Karen, you are a brewer of the tea leaves, I take it…I believe I’m going to have to go downtown to the Tea Room and grab some tea leaves and supplies and start brewing in the future, too.

I like Triple Leaf Jasmine Green Tea and my most recent find is Numi Jasmine Green Tea. I do like the addition of Jasmine to the green tea, and usually drink it that way, but I like regular as well. especially the kind that has barley in it. (it smells nutty)

i ran out of green tea a few days ago so I’ve been starting my day with Earl Grey, which I love but it does a number on my stomach having it first thing of the day. Need more GT!!!

I actually have both bags and leaves for various teas - the leaves are at home, since it would be too much of a pain to try to brew tea from leaves here at work. I have a teapot that has a ceramic insert for the tea leaves, plus a metal strainer to put over the cup when you pour it, but for some teas I just put the leaves straight into the pot (they puff up too much for the water to get by them in the ceramic insert!).

You girls are getting me excited about starting to brew tea with the leaves. I am pretty much an iced rather than hot tea drinker, which is fine. Oh, I can just imagine the lovely, yum, yum, yummy teas at our Tea Room, I’ve not been in about a year, I think it’s time for a luncheon there!!! They have a very long list (much like a wine list, you get a tea list instead) of scrumptious teas, either iced or hot. It’s then brought to your table with an ice cold container of sweetner (a very light syrup made from nonprocessed sugar) for iced tea and brown rock sugar for hot with light tea sandwiches and fruit…don’t ya want to go with me?!

On the fitness front, I was able to work out again today :cheering: My hip is doing quite well (no partial dislocations or anything)…so far this week I’ve worked out 3 or 4 days…very exciting, I must say :cheering:
I just had to run to the convenience store and my goodness, it’s almost like when I walk into the yarn shop and the yarn calls out to me…well, the sweets isle was calling my name LOUDLY…I didn’t listen, grabbed a bottle of green tea and split :cheering:

How’s everyone doing?! Where are you  I’ve not seen any posting!

Well, I will continue with my update…I was happy that I was able to workout 6 times last week (I worked out a couple times on 2 occasions because I had to skip a day). I decided that I was going to take Sat off like I did back when I was in better health and able to work out more. Well, I had an accident Sat. night when we (meaning Lonnie) were rearranging furniture in the bedroom. I fell (as sometimes happens bc of my hip/leg) when Sally got underfoot and I put weight on my bad leg. So, I’ve not been able to work out since then and can’t for a few days and I’m BUMMED, to say the least! I am doing isometrics with my arms and muscles that aren’t sprained. I sprained my left ankle, knee, screwed up the entire left leg, actually and sprained my wrists a bit, which sucks considering I’m on crutches. Anyway, I will continue with isometrics until more can be done

I ask again…WHERE IS EVERYONE?! What’s up, do I reek?! Do I smell?! Am I offensive?! Do you no longer want to post?! I’m so sad, I’m now…a loner :verysad:

I’m here, Rebecca!! You poor soul! I hope you’re on the mend soon!

(I don’t have much to add fitness-wise… slacking off on WW counting for the week, just because, but I did do a whole half-mile of laps in the pool on Saturday…)

:cheering: WTG on the lapping :cheering:
Thanks, I’m feeling a tad better and was able to do a partial workout today!
