Everyone is talking about not having enough yarn. I just ordered my yarn and ordered an extra 100 yards. Is this enough or should I order more (before they run out). Thank you.
Ouch, more yarn eh, sounds like one of those “$” patterns, but i think it will be sooo worth it when its completed.
I also love the sweater coat on the page just prior to the Einstein, the whole book is beautiful.
Lemme know when you post some pics, would love to see them.

I’d order another four or five balls if I were you, particularly if your original order was very close to the recommended yardage. If you run over, you can always make a matching hat
Oh, thanks Angelia. The one in the store I saw had been hanging on a hanger for a very long time so it was stretched down and made the waist look really low. Oh! I want to make this now! Think I’ll go look at yarn today.
Morning! Um, I just found this on ebay. I can’t afford the Manos del Uruguay I want for the coat… ! so I just found this and it seems like the right type of yarn and I like that color. (I think) Would you take a gander and tell me if you think it’s a good choice of yarn for the coat?
You aren’t using Lopi Light are you ? It’s Lopi Bulky.

That’s definitely the right kind of yarn, but it’s only about 1100 yards. I would be worried about that being enough after what Angelia is experiencing. My size is calling for 1200 (the 1st size in the parentheses) – have you checked yardage for your size??
It’s a very pretty color, though! I hope you can find a way to make it work!
So, I haven’t heard anyone say anything about this Crochet Cast-On Ms. Melville suggests using for this coat. Has anyone used it? I used it yesterday, and I have to say that I really like it. It gives such a nice edge, and you don’t have to go through the estimations the long-tail requires. (or the double tail using the method Dee taught us @ Kool Knits)
Just wondering what everyone else though.
Thanks Julie! Yeah I love that color as a matter of fact. Shoot, it’s a little short of yardage. Maybe I could just make the coat a little shorter!
Have to see how high the bids go… also. Crochet cast on sounds interesting esp if it gives you a nice looking edge. I’ll have to experiment with that.

Maybe you could find a few balls of that same kind of yarn in a complementary color & do the color & cuffs in that like someone (Ingrid?) suggested to Angelia. I think it would look really pretty in a different color scheme!
Yes yes yes exactly! Wouldn’t it just be nice if the bid stayed at $10 ha ha… and Einstein coat for $10.
That would be amazing!! When does the auction end?
Julie,
I really like the crochet cast on now! I was a little confused at first (it’s also used for Tubey, which I CO first). In fact between that and THE SEAMING PARTY FOR AMY’S AFHGAN (which we can blab about openly now!!), I’ve really been interested in crochet. So much so that I bought the Happy Hooker book. I will NEVER like it more than knitting though. I promise.
gasp
Andrea! Hooking! Crochet is fun
DM–I LOVE the crochet cast on! In fact, and this is kind of weird, I was sad when it ended and I had to start knitting! I felt that way with Tubey, too…:shifty:
Ohhh Angelia, I didn’t know you were a hooker!!! My mom said maybe she’s try it, she doesn’t like the idea of 2 needles
Oh yeah, I’ve been a hooker since I was ten.
That sounds really bad, doesn’t it?!
No worse than wanting to get my mom hooking :roflhard:
Even better, my mother tried to get me hooking when I was eight. It didn’t take, so she tried again when I was 12. It still didn’t take. I keep TRYING to be a hooker, but I suppose I’m just not cut out for it.
:roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard:
Wonder what the google ads will turn up now!
:roflhard: :roflhard:
I just have no desire – most of the time – to hook. It’s just not my style.
I have to admit, though, that I bought a How to Hook book about the same time I got the knitting stuff, and I tried it, and I tried to teach my children, but, really, none of us was all that excited about it.
My eldest daughter has turned into a hooker. She says knitting takes too long and she prefers quickies! :rofling:
