And then again maybe it’ll all work out! After all it’s been made before and you bought what they told you right? Let’s think positive, no? :roflhard:
I’m trying to think positive. And I can always try to get the yarn somewhere else; buying two or three balls at regular price won’t kill me. Not entirely, anyway! :rofling:
Or maybe you could put a stripe or two of a different color in the sleeves?! Reminiscent of Tubey? That might actually look very cool!
There are two beige colors…one a cream and the other more a tan…That’s a great idea, Jan!
That would look nice! I was sure that at the rate I was going on the cardigan that I would run out of yarn. It sucked it up like a kid with spaghetti! I almost ordered more, just in case. But I actually have a few balls left. Wait until you get more done before you panic.
Yeah! I had a good idea! :cheering: :roflhard:
I’ve always wanted a long sweater coat…I may have to give that one a try, too. Someday. :roflhard:
You always have good ideas, silly person!
I’m going to see how much yarn I have left after finishing all of the body bits before I order more, though. I was hoping to have extra yarn to make longer cuffed sleeves, but that ain’t gonna happen, at least not with solid sleeves! :rofling:
You know, the one shoulder clothing items have been making a comeback, haven’t they? :roflhard:
Is that the yarn I said I wanted to get for something? I’m so confused. I really like the purply/pinky colors. Not like I don’t have a billion things I’m working on and/or want to work on!
:roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard:
Or I could go all mod and only have ONE sleeve! :rofling:
And yes, you were interested in this yarn. They do have other colors, just not mine.
I did ask for email notification in case the situation changes. Could be like KP, who in December said they’d be out of Merino Style in coal until March, then got it in like a week later.
:balloons: :happydance: :balloons: My Yarn Is Here! :balloons: :happydance: :balloons:
(That GAAA book was just for fun, btw)
And just because I can, here’s a close-up:
  Sorry, Angelia, don’t mean to steal away the admiration of your coat … I just couldn’t help myself.
It’s about damn time, Julie! Did you cast on yet???
Yay Julie!! :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:
And it’s lovely, too–I can wait to see how that knits up!
And about stealing my thunder: please, my coat is nothing to be particularly excited about!
Speaking of the coat…I have finished the back and the left front. Time now for the sleeves and collar. I only have 4 balls of yarn left…I’m not sure I’ll make it. This thing does eat up a LOT of yarn. I’ve considered doing the sleeves on larger needles to make the yarn go a bit farther; think that will look dorky?
Which comes first, the collar or the sleeves? I think I’d do the collar first and then if you can do both sleeves at the same time. That way you can see about the yarn and throw in a couple stripes if necessary.
The sleeves come first.
You know, as I was knitting the left front panel, watching my yarn dwindle, I was thinking to myself “oh, well, I’ll just knit these two sleeves at once, and then the ends of the sleeves and the collar can be a different dye lot or color, and then I can add a few rows at the bottom of the coat for symmetry.”
Alas, the sleeves are knit individually into the body of the coat. I think I’m going to follow the dirs. for Sally’s fav. summer sweater and knit the sleeves as in my dream above. It shouldn’t make much difference, should it?
You could work the sleeves knit on sort of at once. Knit an inch on one, then an inch on the other. This way you won’t have to sew them in, yet be able to keep them the same length if you need to make any adjustments.
Right now it doesn’t matter since I can’t get anymore yarn!! I guess I could get a more solid color for the ends of the sleeves, the collar, and the bottom…(the yarn I have is tweedy)…knit the sleeves an inch at a time…
I’ll give elann a week or two to replenish their stock, though, b/c I really do like the wonderwool…
THANK GOD THAT YARN FINALLY ARRIVED!
Whew. Seems like it took forever!
Coat looks great Angelia! I think different color yarn for the cuffs etc. might make it look really interesting. I love to do that, of course I usually have to do that coz I never buy enough yarn.
I can’t afford yarn for this coat for a few weeks boo hoo but I have to say, we who haven’t started the coat are learning lots of lessons from you’all! I want to make this coat with the
’waist’ (although Sally M. says it’s not a waist) higher, the dividing line higher so it looks more Empire style. I think it will look great that way, well the man’s coat in the book IS like that.
Oh, Silveridge…thanks for mentioning that site Mountain Colors is it, re your vest. I’ve been searching all day for a good vest and they have some very nice designs.
V, the way this coat knits up, the “waist” is empire–I’m holding it down much lower than it will be when the shoulders are seamed. But I’m kinda tall (5’9"), so it might hit me higher than it will on you.
So i am new here & see that you guys are knitting the coat from Sally’s book, how is the progress going?
I started this project today, but i think im going to need some more yarn…yikes…
Ok, so lets hear how you are doing/?
Rhy :XX:
Welcome, Rhy! :waving:
My coat is fine…just need more yarn and am wrestling with myself over what to do about it.
The good news is that it is a fairly quick knit! A fairly quick knit that devours yarn…
