Any Sock KAL 2

Julie: OMG your poor Gramma! I hope she feels better soon. Did they test her for stroke? The one side of her face seems to be different from the other in the picture.

Carey: That is going to be a lovely present for the baby’s baptism. Great job!

Sue: The weather is keeping me up and down but hopefully I will feel good for my trip which is Monday to Wednesday of next week.

Ann: That shawl is gorgeous. What a lovely tribute to your Mom.

I can’t remember who all sent me good health wishes but thank you all! So nice to have “seen” Dotty and heard she is doing well!

Hi Lisa, Chris, marenits, Jackie, Lieke, dustinac and everyone else who said hi to me.

My DD was supposed to have surgery on April 15th. She got a phone call postponing that surgery to June 24th. Monday at 2 p.m. she got another call saying her surgery was the next day, Tuesday at 12:30. She has now had that surgery and will require a second surgery when this one is healed up. This surgery was a partial hysterectomy. When they were in there they found that her appendix had been infected and caused scar tissue to adhere to her bowel. She’ll need that fixed as soon as possible. It sure explains all the pain she has been in lately.

I have my bruised DGD with me now for a few weeks and we are having tea parties and walks with Boots and kiddie movies and pj parties and lots of fun stuff. A lot of things will change for a few weeks while I have DGD here because we won’t be able to take her to the gym. We WILL be going on our trip. I will take her home for the three days and through the day she will go to daycare, at night Daddy can take care of her. We’ll pick her back up on our way back into town and carry on.

A friend of mine is coming to supper on Friday and bringing supper with her. She is making turkey with all the trimmings! I think I am going to enjoy watching someone else do the cooking!!!

I got a bit of knitting done on Monday but none since. I am half way finished the foot of the first sock. It is coming along nicely and looks great in this colour, just like a pair of faded jeans.

CHristine no she didn’t have a stroke, her face looks different on one side because it’s completely swollen. The right side of her face is normal, the left side is swollen.
Enjoy your DGD & hope your DD’s second surgery goes well & hope you have a fantastic trip!

Lady V, the socks look FANTASTIC! LOVE the colors. I love ML for socks, too. Your comment about your feet being too far from your brain…:roflhard:

Lieke, your relaxation plans sound nice!

Ann, the shawl is beautiful. Enjoy your day off!

Lisa, pretty pattern!

Carey, I’ll meet up with you, but you HAVE to get a move on that sweater! :fingerwag: What pattern is it? The hanky is coming along nicely!

Chris, just get started on a sweater already! Who needs more hoe?

Julie, I’m so sorry things are so stressful around you! Feel free to rant any time! DS swallowed a penny when he was little. We spent $$ on the xrays only to be told that it would eventually pass. Good grief! Glad your GM is okay. I find if it’s for an even exchange, most stores are happy to help you. I’d expect no less from a store like VS!

DOTTY, It’s SO good to hear from you! So what’s your new location? Glad Mike is doing well! Whatcha knitting?

Christine, hope you feel wonderful for your trip! Glad your DD has an explanation for her pain!

I found that I missed TWO increases on my Amused. I’m going to see if I can fix them. They’re both on the same raglan increase line. Think it’s possible? I fixed a forgotten cable crossing last night! Otherwise I have to frog 4". I REALLy want the fix to work!

QOTD: What are y’all having for Easter Dinner?

Oh I’m definitely going for knee highs. I have to knit a pair of pink argyles to match a pair of shoes I have.

I threatened to hogtie him, duct tape his mouth, and throw him in the trunk, but… he’s bigger than me.

My grandma has this problem with church… we always remind her before Communion that the wine is meant to be SIPPED, not CHUGGED.

So anybody who likes a) cooking b) traveling or c) the Caribbean (and lets face it, who DOESN’T love the Caribbean) should look for the book An Embarrassment of Mangoes by Ann Vanderhoof. I bought it because the name made me laugh (NY Mike has an obsession with mangoes that was sometimes embarrassing… and I had just gotten off the phone with him when I went to the bookstore)… but it is really good! And each chapter has some recipes for island-inspired cuisine. some of it calls for ingredients that are hard to come by in Iowa (ie, Conch) but it all sounds delicious.
I’ve been putting some serious consideration into starting a plan for taking a year to travel around the world. Obviously this would be a VERY long term plan, but it’s something I’ve always kind of wanted to do, and well, the sooner you accomplish your goals, the less likely you are to find yourself 80 years old and thinking, “I wish I had gotten around to…”

I had a lovely time this morning with running late. My alarm went off at the usual time, which is 10 minutes before I need to get up so that I can hit “snooze.” This system works really well, unless I hit “off” instead of snooze. So ten minutes before my class ended, I woke up and thought, “That felt like WAY more than 10 minutes… why is there no annoying beeping?.. Oh. Crap.”
My second class was cancelled, supposedly so we had time to work on a take-home test. So I re-set my alarm - nothing I could do about having slept through Spanish at that point - and went back to sleep.
Only to discover, when I woke up at 10:58 for my 11am cell bio class (where today was an exam day!), that I (oops) reset my alarm for 9:15… instead of 10:15. So I dashed to Cell and managed to arrive less than 10 minutes late, and the prof seemed unbothered by my late arrival… and I wasn’t even the last person to turn my test in. Hopefully I did alright… I certainly got sufficient sleep.
Julie - glad Grandma’s alright. It’s too bad that having someone there to keep an eye on her is such a mess… hopefully less stress soon.

Hi everybody!

morning,

:woot: Hey Dotty, it’s nice to hear from you

Julie - to your Nana. How is she today ? Hope she is feeling much better today.

Lady V - for yur sock.

Christine - Turkey for supper…yumm yumm.

Marilynn- :happydance: for the sweater. See you did, girl. :yay: Starting a new one soon

Oh yeah, and I guess I forgot to answer a quote I put in… Dad went to the Football Hall of Fame and drove up to the dunes, which are either Indiana or Michigan. My family is skilled at finding things to explore… he really did need the vacation - it’s been stressful at work. Apparently (I didn’t know this) he didn’t know until the middle of last week whether he was going to get laid off in the most recent round… and since he didn’t (Thank you, God!) he of course has to take over for some people who did… and from what it sounds like, that entails double the work load. And of course, no extra pay.

Alright fellow sock knitters, I’ve got a question. It was bound to happen, you guys know you were just waiting on the edges of your seats. :teehee: I’m knitting the Sell Your Sole Socks. After turning the heel, it says to “pick up and knit 13 stitches.” I’ve picked up once before (stitches of course, not the other, um, “victim”), but I’m having a hard time with this. My nickle tips are not cooperating at all. I can see how this one part would be easier with a dpn, but I don’t have one in the right size. Basically, the needle in my left hand will not pull the yarn through for the pick up so I can knit it. It slides of every time I try to pull it through. Do I really have to pick up and knit? Couldn’t I just pick up those 13 stitches? I believe that’s what I did the last time I had to pick up (I don’t even remember what I was knitting at the time).

I did have no problems turning the heel, though. :happydance:

eta: Alrighty, I unscrewed the left needle tip and used it as a dpn. It worked fine. When I had picked up and knit 13 stitches, there was still a pretty big gap where I’ll join the top of the foot. If I pick up another stitch there, I can just k2tog next time around, right? Here’s a couple of pictures so you guys know exactly what I’m talking about (even I don’t always get what I’m saying :teehee: ).

Here’s where I started picking up and knitting. Does it look like I picked up a bit early? It looked pretty much like it does in the pictures in the pattern (except my yarn’s not blue).

Here’s the gap.

I don’t know why the coloring’s different in the two pictures. I took them one right after the other under the same lamp. Strange. The color in the second pic is pretty much dead on.

:sun: Good Morning Socksters!!

Lady Vi~Are you working on Magic Loop? Here is a poston my blog with pictures on how I work the guesset that way. You can work a K2tog…a lot of times I will pick up the corner st the little “v” in between the gusset and instep

Dotty~:hug:so good to hear from you! We miss you

Gina~I posted the KAL for the blankettoday :happydance:…did you get the increases worked out?

Emily~Days like that mess me up all day long :teehee:

Christine~Will keep your DD in my prayers and hope DGD is feeling better soon

Sue~Yep, they are very rude here and just well not like the books…I still hold out hope that in PA they are like in the books :teehee:

Julie~I hope your grandma feels better, did someone tell you that you couldn’t go over? that would make me mad too!

Lieke~YAY for a nice day even though you didn’t get to go for the walk…sounds very nice

Chris~

Carey~Very pretty :yay:

Hi Lisa, Carla, and everyone!

Nothing much happening here today gotta run out for Easter treats for dance class, I forgot about that :oo:…then go to dance class…then we have soccer tonight. Might have knit night too at the other place where I’m working on the GAAA which I haven’t started yet…

My parents come up Sat and I can’t wait :woot:

QOTD: I’m having my parents, brother, sil, and then us for Easter dinner…We have it on Saturday: Ham, Chicken, Green Beans, Corn, Sweet Potatoes, Mashed Potatoes, Mac-a-Cheese, Cinnamon Apples, Cranberry Sauce, Pineapple Upside down cake, and Apple Pie…oh and Rolls I think that is it :teehee:…Then on Sunday we will have a big breakfast before the kids hunt eggs by the afternoon everyone will be heading home :pout:

So if you see me just posting fast you know why getting stuff ready

I hope you all have a wonderful day of knitting :sun:

Dustina: yes I was told by my Mom not to come over with the kids because she wouldn’t be able to rest with them there. I can understand that now, but it really hurt my feelings because Grandma & I are closer than my mom and I are. I was very mad, sad, scared for her and they said I couldn’t go :frowning:

Lady Vi. You’ve got it & look at Dustina’s blog, she did a great job posting her tutorial.

Thanks Jackie; I’m leaving the kids with Brian today & going to help Grandma out today. I’ll ask her if I can take a pic of her.

QOTD: Easter Dinner, we’re doing pork tenderloin on the grill and I can’t remember what (if it’s been decided) we’re having for sides. I know I’m incharge of dessert since it’s Jacob’s bday so I’m making a couple 8" round cakes since we’ll be celebrating his bday at Moms house with my side & at his Dad’s with his side.

Not much planned for today…talk to you all later.

Morning, all!

Emily, that book sounds wonderful! Sorry about your messed up schedule today, I hate when I do things like that.

Lady Vi, I have never once made a pair of socks where the number of ‘pick up’ stitches was enough, I always have to pick up more. As long as you decrease to the right number, you’re fine.

Dustina, wow, you’re busy today! Sounds like a wonderful family gathering and a wonderful meal.

Julie, I’m glad your grandma is doing better!

Well, I found out today that we’re going to have a bunny this weekend! We’re babysitting a school bunny, and the kids are out of school Fri & Mon, so we have it from tonight till Tuesday morning. His name is Peter, of course. I asked Em this morning if she thinks Peter might be the Easter Bunny, and she thinks maybe he is.

I got a little more work done on the hanky last night. I went to my parents’ house and knitted with my mom for 1 1/2 hours, but spent a lot of that time helping her figure out where she had made a mistake in the Baby Surprise Jacket she’s doing. We had fun having our own little SnB.

Oh, I forgot the QOTD! We’re having honey baked ham from HEB (local grocery store) along with scalloped potatoes, green beans, rolls, and desserts of some kind. It’s a small gathering, just my family, my parents, and my uncle.

Hello Sole-mates

Julie - they did not say you could not go! They asked (probably not well stated) for you to consider the rest needed by your Grandmother and even on their best behavior children are children and their high energy level is not relaxing for us older people.

You were and are wanted and your darling children were wanted but rest is the best thing for G-ma. Glad to hears she is on the mend.

I keep hearing about SnB, :?? I assume that this is Scotch and Bourbon. They always make the knitting flow better,

knit 1, *Bourbon 1, Scotch 2, Repeat from * :roflhard:

but the frogging the next day can be a pain.

Chris~It nice to see how a guy would think, cause when I read Julie’s post I though I would be mad too…your way makes me go yeah that’s right ya know (just don’t tell my dh that)

Julie~Maybe Brian could watch the kids on his day off so you could go visit with her…thanks for the comment on the tutorial I hope it’s not confusing :teehee:

Carey~We are having honey baked ham too…JD was talking about how good it is they bring it in for meetings at work…so he is picking one up tomorrow but we didn’t know what size so we are having roasted chicken just in case …that’s great that you two are knitting together…mom and me do a lot of that when I go home…

Ok so dance class is over…now to clean house so tomorrow I can bake and Sat. morning just tidy before they come…:yay:

Thanks everybody!

Your camera re-calibrated white balance. My camera has a setting to manually set it, if I know the lighting is going to really screw with the auto-white balance.

QOTD: for Easter, we have ham sandwiches for lunch at Grandma’s. We also have an Easter Egg Hunt/scavenger hunt. We haven’t dyed eggs in a couple of years because of my brother and me being too busy, so we don’t do an egg hunt at home. We used to go to my grandpa’s sister’s house, and I remember the weather always being perfect, and loving to eat potato salad. Now, my memory might be screwing with the accuracy of the weather, but a perfect Iowa spring day smells like Easter to me, and Easter still tastes like potato salad.

Lady Vi - good thinking on your solution!
Chris - SnB, lol.

Good afternoon sole-mates

Unfortunately, I have seen problems caused because of a simple misunderstand that one person kept going over again and again making it bigger and bigger each time.

A simple reality check would have prevented the problem.

Chris~So true…

I finally closed up my thumb on the mittens so they are not DONE :woohoo:I posted a picture of my finished mittens on the whatch knittin’ forum…my blog…and on ravelry . I’m still not liking all those colors and now Roo is wearing them around the house

off to get ready for soccer practice and hoping I can cast on my 3rd GAAA block before we meet

Lady Vi, did you get your sock figured out?

Dustina, I posted on your KAL. I want to make a wall-hanging. Think it would work?

Julie, hope your grandma is totally well soon. You could always go see her without the kids. She’d love to see you, I’m sure!

Carey, have fun with the bunny!

QOTD: Y’all are giving me ideas! That’s why I asked. We’ve always done ham or lamb in the past, but the prices seem higher this year and the budget is lower!

I ended up frogging 4" of my Amused. I must be more diligent about counting stitches after the increase rows. :wall:

Hi to the rest of you!

I did, Gina! It’s all downhill from here - in a good way, of course! Lots of “K all sts” with a few SSKs thrown in for good measure until I get to the toe. I’ll keep ya posted.
