Any Sock KAL 2

Tami, I’m so glad your son is doing OK! How scary that must have been. I have heard that mono can be a lot worse in adults. You and John are in my prayers!

Jess, what a great picture!

Christine, I’m so sorry you are sick again and so uncomfortable! I hope your colds will be gone soon.

Dustina, Abby is excited about her ballet class today, too.

Julie, I hope your computer will behave today!

As for Obama… I did vote for him, but not really because I’m a huge fan. I just think he’s the lesser of two evils. Which is a really sad reason to vote for someone for president! Like you all said, I will pray for him and support him regardless, and I hope he can live up to his rhetoric!

OK, I have to get upstairs, I’m filling in at reception today. Joy, joy…

Tami: I’m glad John is ok now. That must have been really scarey. Make sure you rest, you’ll need your strength when he gets home. Mono is going around up here too. I have a friend who has twins, boy and girl, now 6 and diagnosed the other day with mono. Healing thoughts are coming to your son and to you from Canada.

Carey: Thanks, I really dislike winter and will be glad when the weather is nice enough to get outside and air out my old brain. DH says if we ever win the lottery we will never see snow again!!!

Dustina: Thanks, I never turn down a warm hug!!! My DGD is taking dance class. She is doing very well. She missed a lesson after her surgery but has done a “make up” lesson now. She is top of her class. My DD actually gave me a magazine that came out at the beginning of this month. In the magazines are several pictures of the dance class my DGD is in. She is prominent in most of the pictures.

Lieke: How is your ankle? I hope it feels better soon.

Jess: Cute fishy! Thanks for sharing the picture.

Julie: sorry you are having puter troubles. I hope the dentist appointment goes well! DH ordered himself a Dell laptop. He is supposed to have it before the end of the month. His has 3 GB of memory so it should be really fast. Do you have one of those fans that goes behind the back of your laptop to keep it cool? They are a really good investment. I have one and have one ordered for when DH gets his laptop.

Gina: Your package arrived in the States yesterday (the 21st). The tracking site does not say anything more than the time it arrived in the states which was 20:26. Let me know when you get it!

Sue: How are you feeling? I hope the changing weather is not bothering your arthritis too much.

Hi :waving: to everyone else! Nothing new here. Just SSDD.

Hello all… I would have posted something yesterday however, You all kinda got under my skin. Politics in a forum like this should NOT be brought up just like religion. You all can have your thoughts and Opinions. But since you all have started I will put my 2 cents in.

 1. He is not just a black man!! His mother is white. As I have said for many years. WE all are muts! We are all Americans

 2. “Scares me to death” The moto for W was to scare the public into believing his word. I have Hope for President Obama!

 3. Ideas… If you had really followed the process of this election. You might have heard the message the President was getting across. We are all in this together. WE need to take care of our business, selfs and others. In this message I took it as You need to work to achieve what you want out of life. Do not think that hand outs are going to keep coming. Now with that said, I do need to explain… Not the people that truely need the help but the ones that live off of the system. The ones that can work but Won’t and drive in there caddy’s.

On to knitting. Well I need to frog my toe up socks. I do not like the way the heel turned out. I did start a new Top down sock that was a short row heel and it turned out much nice. I have finished the one and about 1/4 of the way done with the 2nd. I will show later once all are finished.

I love the fish I just dont remember whos it was. :??

Fiber… Sorry to here about you son. I hope he is doing well now. I will keep you in my thoughts. I had a sister that got mono when she was 4yrs old. We think it came from a water foutian. So I dont let my kids drink from them.

PS… I Hope you all dont take offense. But like I said above politics and here do not mix well.

Happy knitting all

No offense taken here! I have hope for Obama too, and I truly do think he is the best of the choices we had, and that he has the potential to do great things. I tend to be more conservative and don’t generally vote democrat- that’s why I’m not as dedicated to him as some people are. But we sure did need a change, and I am optimistic about the future of this country now.

Christine, my ankle is doing better every day. I still have to be a bit carefull, not to move to suddenly, but I can walk without pain and I don’t wear my splint around the house anymore. When I go outside, I still wear it, because I move more and sometimes that hurts a little bit. But it’ll get better and I don’t think it’ll take long.

I’ve finished the first sock I’m knitting in panda cotton. The yarn is great, it’s so soft, but it splits like hell. (actually most cotton splits like hell, so I’m used to it) I hope to cast on for the second sock tonight and finish it in a few weeks, so I’m back to 3 projects (the 3rd project will be frogged, because it’s been a UFO for over a year and I don’t like it anymore, so after the socks, I’m back to 2 projects :woohoo:)

Abbily… I would say I am more Independent. The community that I live in has been run by the dems for the 44 yrs. Last year the town finially had enough and some were voted out 5 member board 3R’s and 2D’s.

I do think the country as a whole needs change not just parts. This change is just the start. Everyone needs to start paying more attention to what there gov. is doing. Not just on a national level but local as well. We all need to make them accountable for what they do with our tax $$'s.

Hey guys Dotty posted on her blog today :happydance:

Christine~That’s great that your granddaughter enjoys it

Carey~We walked into the dance studio and Roo said you kept cancelling us… the teacher tried to explain but I don’t think Roo bought it.

Lieke~So glad your ankle is doing better! Can’t wait to see the socks :happydance:

Sile~Sorry you had to frog the toe ups, can’t wait to see the cuff downs! :happydance:

Now for the political posts :teehee: I think we all need to respect others thoughts and opinions and agree that we all have different views. You may not agree but you have to respect others right to believe that way.

It hasn’t gotten out of hand yet but I’m afraid it could so let’s please move forward
Thank you

Good afternoon to everyone.

Sile, Carey and Dustina: I am glad you made those posts. I was beginning to feel so bad for even mentioning watching the inauguration which I found so interesting. I usually avoid anything to do with politics.

Chistine: Sorry you have yet another cold. This is a bad winter for you. I take vitamin c everyday, and it really seems to help. The changing weather is bothering my head more than the arthritis. I just cannot shake my headache today.

I am going out shortly to an afternoon tea/coffee for a friend’s birthday. I have done about 4/5 inches of my second sock, so it is on the way.

Which sock yarns have you found to wash and wear best? I have found that my Sockotta and Fabel yarns are holding up really well. Apart from Kroy, they are the cheapest I have used also.

Happy knitting :knitting:

Sue… I honestly don’t remember what I have used for some of my socks. However, I did start because I need to know. I am doing my first pair using kroy. I do like the way it knits. As for washing them I dont know. This to is the cheapest I have used.

Dustina… I could’nt agree with you more.

By the way Deb… welcome to the group.

Instead of cleaning…I was browsing ravelry and found thisit doesn’t come out till March but how neat is it. Well if you can keep up with your knitting gadgets then prolly not that neat but for me it’s pretty neat  …it’s gonna be 19.95 though which means I won’t be buying one for every bag

Sue~   …I hope you had a good time today.

As for sock yarn I handwash all my socks even they say to machine wash so they have all done very well. My first pair of socks in '06 was made from Kroy and they are still in good shape. The only sock that I have really been disappointed in was my Cherry Tree Hill that I knitted with over a year ago…it still will turn the water pink…the colors are so bright and pretty but now my socks are very dull…I have more in my stash but haven’t used it…prolly will soak in vinegar before I do and hope it helps…

Dustina, holy cow, that is a nifty looking gadget!

I’m glad you mentioned that about the cherry tree hill! I have 3 skeins of it that I have not used yet… I’ll be sure to soak them in vinegar before I do! Do you just rinse really well after the vinegar bath?

Christine, here’s a place you can order the cervical collar from that ships to Canada. There might be stores near you, but this way you could order it from home. It’s SO worth it!! I hope you feel better soon! I’ll keep you posted about when I get the package!

Tami, John is in our prayers! Glad you’re doing well!

Julie, what software are you using for anti-virus? It sounds like it’s interfering with something else. I use the free AVG.

Jess, Dog is CUTE!

Dustina, I found thisone that I’m thinking of making with bulky yarn. Wanna do it together? Roo’s comments made me chuckle. And what a cool kit!!! I want one!

Sile, so sad you had to frog!

Lieke, glad the ankle is better!

Sue, I’ve used Online sock yarn that has held up well.

I’m getting my hair cut this afternoon. Can’t WAIT! I’ve had to blow dry my hair for the past week. Yuck!

Hey Socksters,

I kinda feel like a fraud since I haven’t knitted on any socks this year. :aww: But I really feel that we are so much more than just Any Sock group, I enjoy reading everyone’s post and keeping up with you all. :grphug:

Thanks for letting me know about Dotty’s blog. Just curious, how much time do you spend on the computer? How would your life be affected by not have internet access?

Dustina, that is such a cool little gadget and I want one…wonder if they have any 40% off coupons?!?:teehee:

Hawk, I have 2 aquariums (20 gal tall & 29 gal). My favorite are angel fish and I used to have two beautiful hand-size ones but they got overfed when we are vacation one year and died. Right now I’m discouraged with my tank due to algae…but I find them to be so relaxing and interesting to watch.

Hi to everyone!!!

Take care,

Carla, don’t feel bad! I CAN’T knit socks any more–the needles are too small for my hands/arms. But THIS is where I hang out with my friends.
As for how much time I spend on the computer, I usually spend an hour or so a day online…sometimes while I’m doing other stuff. Sometimes I have it on while I watch TV or knit and if the kids IM me, we chat a bit.

Dustina: That gadget looks like a great idea. It will probably cost a lot more in Canada.

Gina: Love that jacket pattern. I have used Online sock yarn also and it does wash well. I was hoping that one would shrink as the socks are a little big, but after going through the washer and dryer, no change. I don’t normally put socks in the dryer, but I really would like them a bit smaller.

Tami: So sorry to hear about your son, what a scare. Glad he is ok now.

Jess: Great picture.

Lieke: Glad the ankle is getting better.

Carla, I haven’t been knitting socks for months either, only the last week I started knitting socks again and since I’m going back to 2 projects at the same time, there will be lots of months in which I’m not knitting any socks. When my panda cotton socks are done, I’ll knit laminaria and that’ll take me a while so it’ll take a while before I can get back to sock knitting again. But I’ll keep coming here anyway.

I casted on for the second sock in panda cotton and knitted a bit of ribbing but then I gave up. I don’t like ribbing.

<hanging my head down> I haven’t even started yet. I am still working on my shawl for our cruise. And trying to play catch-up from being sick for 3 weeks.

Tami - Glad to hear your son is better. How scary.

Carla - I did cast on the window panes but frogged them because the toe was funny. Will be a while before I can cast on again. This KAL is where I spend most of my time and would miss hearing about everybody if I only came when I was knitting socks.

Lieke - Glad your ankle is getting better and better.

Dustina - Love gadgets. would buy it if I could get it over here at a reasonable price. Just read a post from knitlist about ways to store your harmonys or options etc. one woman is using this fishing bag. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_13318____SearchResults
I have had a look and I so want one.

Emily - great photo. my son has 3 goldfish. one that is sort of white/silver with a bit of orange, one yellow and one speckled orange with black. I think one is called a comet goldfish and he calls it Super Star, the yellow is Sunshine, and the orange/black is Tiger.

Kameron is still home from school, he started to get a little better on Wednesday but then it turned on us and he has now developed a chest infection. He is on antibiotics, will see how he is on Monday or maybe Tuesday for going back to school.

I keep my knitting helpers “point protectors, scissors, tape measure. ect” in a smallish zippered make-up bag. This helps keep them together and I am able to find what I need.

I have always added salt to my vinegar/water solution when “setting” colors. After you rinse, rinse, rinse in cold water. I was told to use the vinegar/salt/water on all new clothes, even whites. It does help the whites to stay white. (This was at a lingerie party years ago.) I soak mine for about 30 minutes or so in the solution and then rinse well.
