Any Sock KAL 2

.:clink:

Lisa… I truely appreciate your comments on this. I do agree that not everyone shares the same views. With that said… If someone is going to say they dont like someone or this person scares them… They should be able to back there statement up with some facts. Open ended statements can lead to the wrong type of message.

Thank you again for your post. You wont here me talk of this agian. I did feel I needed to respond and tell you thank you.

Happy knitting

I can see both sides of this issue. On the one hand, I absolutely believe that everyone in this thread is responsible and mature enough to keep a political discussion polite and respectful. On the other hand… on a public board like this, you can’t expect everyone to be mature enough to be polite and respectful, and so sometimes you have to make rules like that.

At any rate, I apologize for starting all this by asking about the inauguration.

Of course our group is going to talk about that 'cause we talk about everything. However, the guidelines for the forum state that:

Treat each other kindly, respecting differences, and avoiding angry exchanges. Occasionally you may come across an idea or opinion that you disagree with. Everyone is entitled to their personal opinions. If you feel the need to respond, be courteous in your response. Always be mindful of how your post might be read and interpreted, and avoid engaging in a heated manner. If you feel someone else is being intentionally hurtful, divisive, or willfully instigating discord, please notify a moderator.

A Mod usually will post a reminder if they are worried it could get heated…just to kinda give everyone a thumbs up. We are not trying to tell people what they can/can’t post. Yesterday when I posted I was afraid that it could turn heated. I wasn’t trying to tell anyone what they could or couldn’t post and I’m sorry if it came across that way.

Before the election we had several debates on the OT forum and they did get heated very fast…which when I seen yesterday I was afraid it might gothat way.

I’m sorry if I offended you Lisa…I didn’t mean to and I hope you won’t leave the group.

:blooby: Good Morning Socksters!

:yay: I’m glad others liked the neat gadget! It would be neat if they did give us a 40% coupon off! :teehee:

Gina~ohh I like that one, I was looking at some others on ravelry last night too. I wonder if that Drops pattern is easy or needs tweaking

Carla~Don’t feel bad it’s kinda more of a any kal now

Debbie~Thank you for the salt tip I hadn’t heard that before

Carey~I’ll prolly take the hank and soak it in vinegar…I wondered about trying to re-set it with heat too

Karina~That is a neat way to keep track of everything too. I hope he feels better soon

Lieke~Can’t wait to see them :yay:

Hi everyone!

Question on Computer: It depends on the day and the kids…usually I check e-mail first, KH, and then blogs on Ravelry…then if I can I get back on in the afternoon and then maybe when JD is on at night playing WoW. It just depends :teehee:

This morning we had AR tests…then I had to run home and grab Isaiah’s shark box…take it back to the school…then run to the bank…then I went to find out about subbing for sectaries and teacher’s aides next fall when Roo is in school :teehee:

I’m still working on the sock…I’m making my way up the leg now :happydance:

I Hope you all have a great day of knitting :blooby:

K, how about some great news ya’ll???
My son gets to come home today!!!:woot::woot::woot::woot::happydance:cloud9cloud9cloud9cloud9:clink::passedout:

I think most of us are more passionate about knitting than politics, therefore, if we can agree to discuss the virtues top-down vs. toe-up, Short row versus peasant heels etc. and not kill each other than we should be able to discuss everything reasonable.

You just have to remember that I am always right unless DSWMBO&A has spoken.

I agree :cheering::woot::cheering::woot::cheering::woot:

Tami~ :woot: That’s great news! I bet he can’t wait to get home :happydance:

I forgot to post my sock picture again :teehee:
Pattern: Farmer’s Wive
yarn: Wildfoote from the ol’ stash
Needle: Size 2 Magic Loop
Has anyone else done a toe up sock with a provisional cast on? This was my first time and I do think it goes faster. You co 1/2 the number that way and then you work back and forth creating the toe (short rows so I had issues with holes)…but once you do that then you go back to the cast on and get the live sts and boom you have a toe  . I think mom would like this toe since she has trouble getting started on toe up socks…

Carey can you get the end of your vacuum cleaner hose to the end of your dryer vent going into the wall? If you can try to vacuum as much lint out of the wall as possible. It is likely that when the old dryer was taken out and the new dryer put in the wall was bumped and lint shaken loose.

If the top of the dryer vent ends in the attic (not good in that this puts warm moist air into the attic space - read as mold) you can try the tennis ball method of pipe cleaning. Take a tennis ball, punch a hole through it. Pass a long robe or cord through the hole and tie the cord to a washer, nut or something that will not let the cord be pulled back through the tennis ball. Again put the vacuum cleaner at the lower end of the pipe. Put the vacuum cleaner hose in the pipe end and put some paper around the pipe to “seal” the hole. With one person watching the vacuum and hose a second drops the tennis ball down the top of the pipe. Drop it down, vacuum what is knocked loose, pull the ball up, vacuum what is knocked loose. Repeat as necessary.

Be careful you will be kicking up 9 years of dust and lint - it will be messy and may require more than one vacuum cleaner bag.

Also depending on your personal tastes you could just drop a cat down the pipe. The claws will clean the side of the pipe and the fur will collect the lint. Just make sure the cat runs outside directly for the bottom end of the pipe. There is nothing worst than a huge dust “bunny” with claws. :roflhard: :roflhard: :out:

Hit the wrong button there,

dustina - Pretty socks, love the colour.

Tami - so glad your son is going home.

Carey - I don’t think you need to apologise. I don’t know enough about your politics to comment. I was surprised when it looked like Hilary Clinton was in the running. I hope you president will do well for your country.

Chris… I do want to thank you for all your help with the short row heels. I did finally get it. I will post pics of the top down w/ short row heel once the second one is done. I will be frogging the first pay.

You just have to remember that I am always right unless DSWMBO&A has spoken.
:roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard:

dustina… very pretty socks

Tami… :happydance: That your son is coming home. That is GREAT News.

Happy Knitting all.

Hello Friends!

I helped a friend turn the heel of her sock so I did touch a sock today. Plus I’m wearing my Monkeys! :woot:

Gina, I feel the same as you that we have been friends for over a year and I hear from you all more than my other friends.

Sue, I’ve been washing and drying all my socks. I’m sure once I ruin a pair I’ll quit though.

Lieke, the Laminaria is beautiful. I have some panda cotton in my stash.

Karina, Hope your Kameron feels better soon. I use a fishing thing to store my circular needles. I bought it at Walmart but can’t find a pic of it now.

Debbie, thats what I keep my knitting notions in too.

Tami, So glad to hear . . . now you can breath a little easier. :woot::happydance:

We all have our opinions but generally with politics it is better left unsaid. :clink:

Chris, we all know that toe-up is the best, right?!?!?

Dustina, Love your socks!!

I’m still cranking out the dishcloths.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!!

Take care,

I found short row confusing the first sock or so. Doing short row for toe up is simple. When you get to the heel - stand on your head. :chair:

DSWMBO&A said I could say yes to this. Crossed Fingers

Hi all!
Haven’t knit or spun in a while :o(
All I have left to do for homework is read 13 pages (all of chap 3 in my bio book) Then I can knit! or spin!
My laptop is being a butt so it’s in timeout at Grandma’s house & tomorrow the IT guy my dad works with at Sandia National Labs is gonna take a look at it for me; makes me mad…I ended up spending $72.00 on a wireless card, then needed some anti virus software, that was $70, so now I’ve spent $142 to get the darn thing working & whatever the IT guy is going to charge not to mention lots of my time & my IT neighbor’s time& for <$60 bucks more I could have just bought an Eee pc & been done with it! :hair:
Ok well Dh is home sick again today, still has a head cold; doesn’t wanna over do it at work and be worse this weeknd so he stayed home today (wish he’d gone to work) I dont need 4 kids. And then our water heater last night wouldn’t heat water; Dh took a luke warm shower & I tried to do dishes but it wouldn’t get hot, so I boiled water & he drained the sucker & now it’s working. New ones are about $500. :wall: glad we didn’t have that expense. Esp since he’s lost ~4 hours now being sick @ home. He usually works 10 hour days, but is only paid 8 hours on sick days, so he’s lost 4 hours of pay-:wall:.
Jacob starts indoor soccer tomorrow @ 9am and then I have classes from 1-7. So maybe I can knit tonight. We have netflix and I just got “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” yesterday & can’t wait to watch it while I knit-course chores & homework need to be done first. Sheesh you’d think from my schedule I was in highschool, those were the ‘fun/easy’ days.

As far as the question about how much time on th pc, etc. I know I spend too much time on it, a couple hours a day on average. I get on after taking Jacob to school. And then usually again before I start dinner…usually when 4pm hits (sometimes 3) I sorta ‘freak out’ and end up with a second wind and get lots done before Dh comes home around 6:30. Would my life be different w/out the internet? YES! I enjoy y’all very much & ravelry too-sometimes I think maybe we should just go back to the way things were 10-20 years ago, no cells and no internet; life would be simplier in a way & in a way not as ‘easy.’ I use google for EVERYTHING-I’d miss that too. Not to mention that I really do need a pc with internet access for my classes. speaking of wonder if the school website’s back up? need to make sure there’s nothing else i need to do before tomorrow.
TTFN & :clink:

Tami so glad that your boy gets to come home!
Dustina I’d never done a provisional co with a toe up sock, maybe for the next ones I do.
For whoever asked, I dont know which sock I like the ‘hold up’ of best but my neighbor who’s knit easily 20+ pairs (most for herself) says she likes the feel & the quality of the OnLine yarn best. I have lots of the CTH and think I wanna make a shawl out of one of them; though most patterns call for 2 skeins-damn. Maybe I’ll make a pair of fingerless gloves for me too, or mits or something. I love the way it feels. OK gotta get onto reading since Katie’s napping.
Sorry if I missed anything, hollar at me if I did.

Chris you’re too funny…your DSWMBA&O needs to smack you more often, jk we love you!

Carla, I like the idea of a 40% off coupon. I wonder where they’ll be sold.

Debbie, no reason to hang your head! Lots of us on here aren’t knitting socks, but we LOVE to chat about what we ARE doing. So show us pics of your shawl! I do the same thing with my gadgets. I still think that gadget is cool, though!

Karina, hope you and the kids are healthy again soon! NO FUN!

Carey, and others…whatever your political views, the inauguration WAS a historic event. I don’t think anyone here has gotten out of hand with it and I LOVE that!

Dustina, I’ve had good luck with Drops Patterns, but I’m usually pretty quick to change what I don’t like! That’s why I do so much re-knitting!:aww: I also like this pattern, but it costs $7 just for ONE pattern and I hate to spend that for just ONE pattern. I like the socks, but I’ve never done a provisional CO. I usually use the Turkish CO. Maybe your mom would like that?

Chris, your cat idea…:roflhard::roflhard::roflhard::roflhard:

Tami, YAY!!!:woot::heart::woot:

Julie, I know you’ve been busy, girl! My goodness! Get your reading done so you can KNIT or SPIN tonight! Hope class goes well tomorrow! Also hope that DH keeps his germs to himself!

My DH is teaching a class this weekend. He’s not out of town, but he’s not home, either, except for sleep. Thankfully, a friend is coming for tea tomorrow morning. I think I’ll make scones before she comes. Hmmmm cherry almond this time?

Hi to everyone else! Happy knitting!

Gina~Yum what time should I show up tomorrow? :teehee: Ok so I dug out KP bulky yarn and I have 8 skeins, I thought I ordered 10 but it’s been so long ago…so I only have 880 yards, I wonder if I could order another or two and be ok dye lot wise. I do have 3,472 yards in a dk weight  so I should be plenty good there. I really like that pattern too…and I really like this one toowith the short sleeves…

Julie~I hope he gets to feeling better soon, maybe you can knit tomorrow while Jacob is at practice too…I’m glad you guys got the hot water heater working :happydance:

Carla~YAY for helping your friend! Isn’t wearing knitted socks the best :yay:

Carey~No need to apologize    I hope you have a fun weekend with your mom’s group!

Debbie~Yes please don’t feel bad we like chatter :teehee:

Chris~  thank you

I forgot the 2nd half of the computer question how would it be effected…I use it for a lot of research, keeping in touch with friends, and family…checking Isaiah’s grades so I can stay on top of them…keeping up with bills/balances/etc…it’s how I read the local paper…even use it when JD is at work if he needs to be pick up something or if I need to ask him something…I’d be pretty lonely though, not having family up here around me this is a good way for me to keep with everyone…and you guys have become my family too…so even though I think times away from the computer are good, I think it helps in making my life better…yes I’m trying to convience myself that I don’t spend to much time on here

I forgot about the computer question. I spend far to long on the computer, I start the morning (after the kids are sent to school) checking my emails. then checking KH and onto ravelry to check out any new info on the groups. I don’t usually participate in the discussions over there just read and see what people do with their knitting. I use google a lot, banking and shopping.

Kamilia do not get even one book at school, everything is done over the Internet, all the research and she gets her homework over the Internet, do it and send it back to her teacher via the Internet. We would be lost without a computer so we have one in each room, nearly not in Kameron’s or Maisey’s. Ron builds them himself out of second hand parts he gets off the AV forum at a fraction of the price it would cost him in the shop.

Chris - you really made me laugh, Although my 5 cats were not amused.

Julie- hope your DH gets better soon. Did you get all your homework done?

Karina, I have 3 pages left in the second chapter that we were assigned to read (dont think we’ll get all the way through it) but I’ll do my best to read those 3 pages today before class.
Dh is now nausious (sp) and is still on the couch…<sigh>…Gotta leave for Jacob’s soccer class in about 10 min or so, talk to y’all later.
