Any Sock KAL 2

Good morning, all!

Debbie, I hope you are feeling better soon! Good luck with the socks- we’ll help you through the first one if you need it, and once you get that one done you’ll be addicted!

Ann, house hunting, how fun! I love looking at houses.

Dustina, how funny that it should be shocking to talk about knitting socks on the sock KAL! I hadn’t knit any for MONTHS, and now I’m working on my 3rd pair in 2 weeks.

Julie, sounds like a wonderful date night! I have wanted to try the Melting Pot for ages, but haven’t gotten around to it… I do like making fondue at home, though. I’m glad Bio class is going well! I’ve never read The Shack, but my church did a reading group on it last spring. I’ll have to put that on my list!

Lieke, YAY for finishing (almost) Avast! Can’t wait to see!

Sue, those are gorgeous pictures! I love the one with the cardinal- great shot!

Gina, BIG HUGS!! I have days like that, too… You’re always welcome to come visit me! We have an extra twin bed.

As for me… I’m going to have to call Sears back- I put a load of clothes in my new dryer, set it on medium and used the ‘sensor dry’ setting, and it took THREE HOURS to dry my clothes. There is something not right about that… you better believe after waiting 2 1/2 months for it, it’s going to work right!

Meanwhile, my DH and kinds are at home asleep (well, they’re probably up by now, but…) and I’m at work on MLK day. :stuck_out_tongue: oh well, that’s life.

I’m about 1/2 way done with the feet on my falling in love socks (toe-up). This pattern goes pretty fast, if only I had more time to work on it! I had to cut out a few stitches though- I’m getting gauge, but the socks are huge! I have wide feet, and they were still too wide for me. I went down a needle size and cut 4 stitches, and I think they’ll be fine now.

:wall: KH isn’t liking my posts this morning let’s try this again…

:blooby: Good Morning Socksters!

Gina~ I wish I lived closer, I’d come over and give you a hug! I know how the blahhs feel, remember to get out if you can, go for walks and get in the light! Know that even though we are not close we have strong shoulders and are here for you

Lieke~YAY on finishing avast and the anklets :woot:

Sue~The pictures are so pretty, I love cardinals! :yay:

Carey~I can’t wait to see your socks, and hope they fix your dryer soon! Have you checked the vent you hook it up too if it’s clogged up it can slow down the dryer too :happydance: …I need to work on those socks today and get them done and reviewed :teehee:

Julie~It sounds like you two had a great time and it sounds very yummy!! :happydance:

Lisa~Are you staying warm? :happydance:

JD got his car started yesterday afternoon but by that time it was still snowing so today I’m going to try and get out. He put a hair dryer under the hood while he shoveled…he said well they do it for planes so why not?

I finished my mittens :woot:

Gina how are you doing today?
Lieke I can’t wait for your FO pictures!
Christine how are you doing?
Chris?
Lady V?
Sue that picture of the Cardinal is beautiful! I’d never seen a cardinal before, besides in pics or toys, on Christmas trees, etc. I’d love to see that out my window.
Ann how was work? How’s Canada’s economy? They’re closing stores in the USA left and right. Circuit City has filed chap 11 bankruptcy & I went yesterday to look for a cheap computer, they were sold out of all the ones under $900 and I’m not spending that; cant.
Dustina those mits are fabulous!
Carey, those socks were big when I made them, and mine have ‘sorta’ felted with all the washings (in the machine) and they’re still big. I too have wide feet & got gauge, good grief!
Today I’d love to just sit and knit on Brian’s sock, but I feel I should do my biology homework first (& be a good girl). I also have to find my kitchen, and get some more laundry going. The never ending jobs of a housewife yaknow.
Well I’ll talk to yall later.

Good Morning Everyone.

Gina: Sending you a . Some days everything seems to be wrong but I hope things look a little brighter today. I guess I am really lucky that I have several good friends living close to me. Just come here for some love and encouragement.

Dustina: Love the mittens. I think you are the Mitten Queen :yay:

Carey: Too bad you have to work today.

I finished one sock yesterday, so now I must start on the second. Will take a picture when I have the pair finished.

Here is today’s quote from Stephanie Pearl-McPhee:

"On this day, almost every knitter can identify with famed American civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. Just go stand in front of your piles of yarn, survey them in all their glory, and repeat the following words of the great man: “I have a dream. . . .”

Sue that quote made me

OK, I went yesterday to ask for my invite. They said it would be about 3 days. So . . . I am waiting, trying to be patient. Not my strong suite!

Dustina, those mittens are SO PRETTY! Really stunning!:thud::passedout:

I am feeling much better! =) I live in Hawkins. A small town on Hwy 80. Hawkins is about 20 miles North of Tyler, 30 miles West of Longview. Home of Jarvis Christian College and the birth place of the first Aunt Jemimah. Pancake Capital of the World (or so they say.) We don’t have a pancake restaurant in town.

Thank you all for the help and the warm welcome. All are much appreciated!

Debbie J

Dustina, the mittens look fabulous!

Sue, great quote!

Julie, you certainly are virtuous today!

Debbie, I had a hard time waiting for my ravelry invite too, but back then it was more like a 3 week wait!

Thank you all for being here for me! Y’all are the BEST!!!
Julie, my thyroid is out of whack and that’s probably contributing. My pcp just cut back my dose and I feel like I’m going into a tailspin! I’ve suffered from depression before and the thyroid meds really helped. I see a thyroid specialist (new person) next week. CAN’T WAIT! Meanwhile, I have sinus headaches from crying. Yuck.
DD left this morning. I made a list of things to do today. It’s a long list, so I should keep plenty busy.

Julie, date night sounds FABULOUS! DH said he’d take me out for dinner tonight. We don’t have the $100 gift card, though, so we’ll have to go somewhere that fits the budget!

Lieke, way to finish your UFO!

Thanks, Lisa!

Carey, what a bummer that the dryer doesn’t work! I’d make them replace it!

Dustina, those mittens are AMAZING!!! WOW! You certainly are the queen of mittens! Those will win first prize anywhere!

Sue, good quote. IF only I had a good stash!

Debbie, your comment made me laugh! Pancake capital with no pancake house?!?! :roflhard: Be sure to check us all out when you get your Ravelry invite! (It might be in your junk email box, so be sure to check there!)

Okay, now to get my bills paid, taxes started, laundry done…

Hey Socksters,

Glad to see that everyone is staying busy…microwave blowups, date nights, broken ankles, house hunting, finished projects, new sock knitters…busy, busy busy!

Julie - for a second I thought Dotty was posting. Has anyone heard from her?

My socks have taken a basket vacation. I am on a dishcloth kick now. I’ve joined several dishcloth groups and have been knitting a dishcloth almost everyday. Knitting dishcloths was my first knitting love…they are quick to knit, teach new stitches and techniques, plus I have lots of Sugar N Cream. But my favorite dishcloth yarn is I Love This Cotton!, it is so soft and it seem to hold up great too.

Any other dishcloth knitters out there? What’s your favorite dishcloth yarn?

Sock on,

“Any other dishcloth knitters out there? What’s your favorite dishcloth yarn?”

I love knitting dishcloths! I usually have one on the needles all the time. I make them for Christmas gifts every year. I use Sugar and Cream or Peaches and Cream as that is all I can find here locally. Not a big deal though. I do have some cones of different colors, too. My favorite stitch to do dish cloths is the Moss stitch. It is pretty nubby and scrubs pretty good. (I love them for bathing too. But not the same ones!) LOL I make a different color for the bath. Usually white ones.

That is what I was told when we first moved here. That Hawkins is the Pancake Capital of the World. I always wondered why we didn’t at least have a small IHOP.

Hawkins is actually an old oil town. The road to Tyler used to be a mud trail, one car wide. And the Sabine River used to be a shipping lane. BUT only when the river was up. LOL The crossing (river) is called Belzora and you used to have to ferry across the river. It had the first Post Office in the area. (I read this in the Hawkins/Big Sandy paper is the only reason I know. LOL

Carla, great to hear from you! My mom recently picked up knitting again, after nearly 30 years away from it. She’s done nothing but knit washcloths, so far, and is loving it for the same reasons you mentioned. Meanwhile, I get the benefit of getting some of her washcloths!

Gina you are not alone you have us. Check to see if someone is on line and chat any time your down. We are here.

Carey I second Dustina check the vent. If it is blocked it will take forever to get things dry.

My laptop has forgotten that it has a keyboard and I need to replace it so I’m on my old desk top. It takes so long for the web to load I will be reading with very limited posts for the next week or so.

Julie~Remember though taking knitting breaks clears the mind :teehee:

Carla~I got a Christmas card from her back in Dec, she said it was harder to get out this time of the year to check in with us. I know she posted on her blog not to long ago, but I couldn’t figure out how to leave a comment

Sue~ that’s a good quote! nah I’m far from the mitten queen, you should see the mitten knitters on ravelry :passedout:

Debbie~I’m glad you are feeling better! That is to funny about being the pancake capital of the world :teehee: …yes let us know when you get your invite so we can add you in our friends on ravelry!

Chris~Hope you get the keyboard talking to the laptop again :teehee:

Gina~ Thyroid can play a lot on emotions…hang in there and like Chris said if you see one of us we will chat! :yay:

Thanks everyone for the comments on the Mittens, I’m not sure how the voting is suppose to go…your suppose to favorite your mittens on ravelry and the most hearts win…I posted a question today to see how they keep it fair, can you ask others? do they only count hearts from the group?

Dishcloth Question: I do like sugar n’ creme and peaches n’ creme…but my favorite favorite is Plymouth Naturale it’s very nice to knit with and doesn’t dry my hands out like sugar n’ creme does…and washes up great :happydance:

We went out today for our grocery shopping…I was out of everything, I hate going on those trips 'cause the bill is so much higher

Chris & Dustina, the Sears service people told me the same thing when I called. They suggested disconnecting the vent hose from the wall, covering the end with pantyhose, and running a load like that. If it runs normally, then I need to have my vent professionally cleaned. I’ve never had that done in the 9 years I’ve been living there, so I’m betting that’s the problem. I have no idea how much that costs…

 professionals clean it? hrmmm…do you have Ace near you they sell Dryer Vent cleaning systems for about 30.00 to help clean out the vent and then usually that pipe thing that goes on the back of your dryer to the vent is only a couple of dollars… I stay worried about fires, so our dryer is only running certain times and JD has to clean that stuff out so I don’t worry as bad :teehee:

I really love using 2 circs. For some reason, I’ve never had a problem confusing the needles (lucky me!). I tried ML once from a tutorial, but I guess I’m the kinda person who needs the teacher looking over my shoulder. And I absolutely despise dpns! Only use them when I have to.
So far I’m doing cuff down socks, tried toe up once, but didn’t like the way the heel looked. Maybe I need a different pattern? The one I used called for wrapping and unwrapping stitches (ugh, what a pain).

Alot of short row heels call for wrapping and un-wrapping. I like the Sherman Short row heeland will replace it with that…no wrrapping. You can also work the gusset backwards so no wrapping :happydance: Hereis a baby sock showing it this way

I like Magic Loop but I still drag out my dpns sometimes :teehee:
