Any Sock KAL 2

I use a toaster oven. When you make a big batch let them cool completely and then layer them between wax paper for easy seperation before you put them in the freezer  We add chocolate chips to some and Dh likes to add grated cheese, green chili & bacon bits to his (sounds gross but it’s not bad).

Chris sorry about the :frog: ing you’re having to do

Gina I knit 6 rows this morning and plan on getting more done here in a little while-not sure if you like my progress reports or not, but since I don’t have any socks otn I figured I’d better tell y’all what I’m doing :knitting: wise.

KnittinMitchie: thats a really pretty pattern, I may have to join you on that one but I cant start anything else just yet…btw WELCOME!!!

I think Christine is on her anniversary weekend-she had to take Boots to her friends house so she could teach her how to watch him for this weekend too-right?

Mornin’ Dotty!!!

Night Jackie & Lieke and anyone else on the other side of the globe!

Lisa~That’s right…I forgot about that…:wall:

I worked all the repeats on the chart but the last one…and it’s almost 60" in diameter…I used a worsted weight too and it kinda looked small to me but when you block it…it really grows!

Chris~I’m sorry about all the frogging you are doing…but your comment did make me giggle!

Dustina I forgot to say that I don’t want to look at any more laundry and I still have 2 loads to do after the 2 in there are done-sheesh.
I think you may have to buy a new washer/dryer-or at least a new heating element for the dryer, but when we were looking into that-the element, we decided that for a few more Benjamins we could get a new dryer & we did-dryers are cheap-few hundred $s.

Julie~yeah…it’s a small dryer very small…we need to get another one at some point blahhh…I did have all my laundry caught up…just had to do a load every other day to stay caught up…then Isaiah got sick and I was back to square one cause I had to keep washing his items…I told JD I wasn’t going to try and get caught up anymore…everytime I do someone ends up with a stomach bug :ick:

Hi everybody !
I’m going to try to quilt some more today…yesterday was Mike’s eye appointment, and I took my sock with me and got maybe 5 rounds done, before we were called in. Good news, no damage to his eyes from the stroke. New glasses ordered, too.

Knitted on my wrap some, and just don’t know about all of these colors. It’s funny because several people commented on how it would go with lots of outfits, and that was the first time I had even thought of wearing it OUT ! I just thought of it as something to wrap up in around the house. With these colors, I have a feeling that will be most appropriate…I need a nice solid colored one for going out. Maybe out of the BigLots Paton’s Lacette. Speaking of Paton’s, I stopped by our local yarn store/import outlet, and was surprised to find that she’s branching out from Red Heart ! She had a package with 10 skeins of black and another package with 10 skeins of white, in Paton’s superwash sock yarn. She’s going to price them at $6.00 per 50 gram skein, which is rich for my blood, but I WOULD like to support my lys, so maybe I’ll give in eventually and get some of the white, to dye !~

Here’s my wrap so far…I’m so unsure of the color combo that I haven’t even cut the colors that I’ve dropped, and they don’t come into it again for a LONG WAYS. I thought I’d see how they all look together first incase I want to change it or forget it !

dotty~ I’m liking those colors to me they remind me of fall :yay: …Is that the Kroy sock yarn? I like the yarn although I think ben franklins is cheaper on that…cause it takes 2 to make a pair of socks…I was thinking with Kroy I could make a pair for 8.00 …I know what you mean about supporting the LYS though…mine just carries such limited offerings…and no solid sock yarn…just self striping :wall: I don’t understand that…they keep saying a big shipment is coming in to make desgning a sock pattern easier…but so far nothing which is good for me I guess…no temptaion…

good afternoon everyone. Everything looks soooo pretty.\

You all have been a very chatty bunch lately. I am having a hard time keeping up.

Dustina… if you can it is well worth the $$ to purchase a new dryer. I had to get a new one 3 yrs ago and was the best thing. Now I just keep sending DH hints that it is time for a washer. Our washer is very small. I need to do 2 loads to make it a large load on a normal washer. So I am forever doing laundry.

I will post pics of the FO as soon as I am done. I am on the neckband of the tempting and still need to do 2 parts on the window pane.

Well I am going to cheat again today. I really am not in the mood to make a bday cake so DS will get a little one from the store for tonight. He wont know the diffence yet.

happy :knitting:

cheat whenever possible-makes life easier  :teehee:
@ least in daily chores ect…not on stuff that matters

Hello everyone!
I had two exams today- Crisis Communications and Public Relations Writing. I think the writing one went very well, but the Crisis one was just meh.
The good news is we got our client presentation marks back (Walk for Dog Guides) and we did VERY well.
I haven’t been able to knit much, but hopefully a bit this evening during Big Brother (yes I’m a huge BB fan!).
Oh- and yes, I am feeling a lot better now, just a little stressed about moving, but at least not hormonal anymore (sorry Chris and Steve!).

Sue- Again, stop knitting so fast! You’re making the rest of us look bad. I love how the socks are turning out, it looks so different than it did in the skein. Very nice.

Lieke- Sorry you have to frog. I hate frogging and avoid it at all costs.

Dustina- I hope Roo is feeling better today. I also hate how laundry never ends. It’s a thankless chore, as soon as you finish it there is more to do.

Julie- I can’t wait to see pictures of the shawl!

Chris- Amphibian- haha, I love it!

Dotty- I’m so glad Mike’s eyes are okay. Also, I LOVE the colours in the wrap, seriously LOVE.

Karina- That socks yarn that Sue is using is Paton’s Kroy.

Silegose- Happy B-day to your DS, how old is he? Don’t worry about cheating on the cake, kids just like cake wherever it comes from!

Hi everyone else and I hope you’re all having a good day!

jberry16 you should be able to open the top of the dryer and look inside. If the heating element is broken you can often pull gently (with the dryer unplugged) on one side of the coil and place it over a small section of the other side of the coil. This will ā€œspliceā€ the heating coil and let it work. I have gotten another year or so out of a dryer this way, so I could save up to replace it.

I hope I have explained this clearly?

Thank you knitgal, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you. I’m sure you don’t need it though, I sure you did well. I used to watch BB but it got a bit out of hand over here and a few peoples lives suffered greatly in the name of TV entertainment (the celebrity version which have now been cancelled) so have gone of it a bit. Will probably have a peak at the new one that will start in May/June just to see what sort of people they select this year. It is nice though when the underdog wins it.

dotty your Arctic throw is looking great, love the stripes and would agree with dustinac, very autumny colours. Glad to hear Mike’s eyes are OK.

Hi my sock-knitting friends!

Dotty, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the colors on your wrap! Such a pretty combination! I say keep going and go ahead and cut the yarn! It’s a keeper! And I’m so glad Mike’s eyes are okay. I gotta make an appointment for DS to get his eyes checked. Thanks for the reminder!

Julie, I really like hearing updates on the shawl! Makes me feel a part of the project! I did a mountain of laundry on Saturday. And your enchiladas sound YUMMY! Glad you liked the pancakes! They’ve my faves!

Chris, you crack me up!:roflhard::roflhard::roflhard:

Steve, I’m glad your socks feel good on the foot part. Is the top ribbing? That always make em fit better. You could also add some elastic thread there… just sayin…

Leike, how are you feeling? Has your back settled down? Bummer on having to frog the socks.

Sue, your socks are GREAT! Fun colors!

Tami, are you snakin instead of froggin??? (Thank Chris for that!)
I don’t know the pattern you’re asking about, so I can’t help. Sorry!

Dustina, is Roo feeling better? I loved it when my kids were snuggly. DS still is sometimes and he’s 18!

Christine, Welcome to this KAL! We’re a chatty bunch, but we always welcome newcomers. I can’t knit that sock (or any sock right now) b/c of hand problems. I can’t use tiny needles at the moment. Maybe once I get really got at Portuguese knitting I’ll purl a pair! I DO Like that pattern, though! I saved it for later use. Go ahead and cast on, though. If you get stuck, someone here can help and we’ll cheer you on your way!

Devon, I agree about the dryer. In the end, the newer ones are more energy efficient. Are you getting good at Portuguese knitting? I swap back and forth between that and English.

Knitgal, I’m glad your exams went okay, at least.

Happy knitting everyone!

Hi Everyone,
Ann, So glad to hear some exams are behind you and you’re feeling better! Love the artic throw version you knit for the Christmas present:yay:
Cacunn, I think the idea of using the retractor would work just perfectly! I think also you might really like this style of knitting- I am finding it is a whole lot easier to knit several sts. together than with my other way. And are you in the frog pond, spelling amphibian?
Dustinac, I just love those Telemark socks - so European and detailed!:muah:
Lisa, Sorry I’m just catching up today; hope you are feeling much better by now? I never even get the warning spots in the eyes like many do - it just hits BOOM - Hi, Migraine here, just dropping by:pout:
Silegose, I am so impressed by how many projects at once you can do! Can’t wait to see pics of the mock cabled socks. And I never met a boy that cared too much about where the cake came from, as long as there was cake!
Sue, I love that colorway!:muah: So pretty!
Tami, Those socks sound difficult! At least you know what you’re talking about; I got confused just reading it! Can’t wait to see your socks, either! (ps- how’d it end up with the wedding cake story?)
Julie, You sure knit quickly! I hope I can knit faster soon, but when I try to now, I just drop or split stitches…
KnittinMitchie: :waving: And thanks for the sock pattern! I have about 4 patterns ahead of this one yet to try, so not me, but am grateful to add to my growing library. (or should I call it my wishlist? or my impossible dream?) :stuck_out_tongue:
Dotty, feeling better? Good to hear your DH’s eyes are fine:cheering: Personally, I think the wrap is Awesome! The colors could be worn with a pastel of any of the colors in the summer, or with the matching shade in the winter - it truly is very versatile! You do wonderful work:muah:
Gina, I don’t have a dryer! Wish I still did, but no, not now. And BOY, do I ever miss the convenience and savings! I’m getting better with the Portugese knitting, but would you believe that I am more comfortable now with the knit st? I can wing that one but slow down on the purl st. Have to watch that video again some times more!
I am so happy you can knit more again!:woohoo:
I didn’t get ANY knitting done today, but knit all day the last two days, so am happy! My big news is today we went into town to do laundry and errands, and DH said ā€œlet’s let the laundromat do the wash and we go window shopping for a roof rack and kayaksā€! We have been talking about getting some cheap ones for a few years now, and it ended up we got a nice rack installed today, and he bought his life jacket. We both looked at kayaks, and since I’ve used one of my friend’s, I knew just what I wanted - a cheapo, wide, stable, boring, just paddle and talk in the sun on the water variety. DH wants a sit-on-top kind, but needs to think about price, since they are way more expensive. We don’t do any other sports, and need the exercise, so are really looking forward to getting out there! It was such a nice surprise today! Mine is going to be fire engine red, and I already had a paddle and life jacket, so I will be all set:woot: oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!
:waving: to everyone else!!!

Devon, I find putting a smaller needle on the LH side makes picking up the stitches faster and easier. Of course, you can only do this if you’re knitting in the round!
Congratulations on the kayak! DH sounds like a great guy!

It is midnight here in the UK, so happy birthday Julie. Hope you have a great day. Now I am going to bed.
Night night.

Kayaking ! WooHoo…just the looks of it always scared me to death…I always pictured myself spinning around upside down, and not being able to free my legs to get out ! Have fun, and be safe ! Red !!!

I love that yarn and those socks, Sue !

Gina, it’s a good thing I hadn’t cut the yarn…I looked at the photo that I posted and then I went to the park for my daily walk. It hit me as I was walking that the green portions are supposed to be twice as long as the alternate colors (like the first pale green), so I just ripped the rust color off, and was able to pick up that skein and keep going. That’s my color plan for now…we’ll see ! Glad some of you like it … it reminds me of an afghan your grandma might have knit, and you kept out of sentimentality. :teehee:

Dotty, you are thinking white water kayaking - not for me just yet, but does look kinda fun (and scary!) Nope, we live right near Lake Champlain, and have several places where we can put our boats into the water, and the waves only kick up in bad weather (but, then they can get quite high). My kayak can’t be tipped - I know how to do the ā€œEskimo rollā€, where you flip it all the way into the water and back up again, and you can’t make this type of kayak do that, Yay~

jberry16 - do not misconstrue a new dryer is a good idea on many fronts. They are greener and cheaper to run. My fix would get todays laundry done and work until the eagle flys high enough to be able to buy one.

dotty - I like the colors in your wrap. I reminds me of the mountains around me in the fall.

:woot: Gina I finished the third repeat!!! :woot: yes all 32 rows today!
Carey or Gina I just need one of you to pm me Carey’s address and I’ll Fed Ex it to her tomorrow, if I get the addy before 10pm (mst) tonight.
:woot: I’m so excited! I’ll post pics later.:woot:

Dh & the kids are gonna wrap my bday present tonight-'member the cherry tree hill sock yarn I ordered on sale? yup, happy bday to me:thumbsup:

Yay for exams behind you!! Don’t apologize on my account… I haven’t stayed married 17+ years without learning when to pretend I didn’t hear something.

Yes, definitely possible! They’re ribbed (k2p1) the whole leg & instep. The cuff has a mini-cable over the two knit stitches. They look awfully stretched out now… I don’t know if that will correct itself in the wash. (It’s Knitpicks Essential yarn.)

Anyway, question for the group: When knitting two socks at once, what do you do with a 100g skein of yarn? Is it worth rewinding into 2 separate balls? or just knit from both ends of the skein at once, if you’re lucky enough to get a good center pull?

Mystery question of sock life: Maybe I’m getting a distorted view here–but it seems like sock knitting is a very popular subset of knitting. Not just here, but judging by the number of books on the subject even in libraries and at mainstream bookstores. So why oh why do none of the usual suspect chain stores (Michael’s, AC Moore, and Joann–we don’t have Hobby Lobby around here) carry a single skein of sock yarn?
