Whatcha' Knitting? May, 2025

It’s May, one of the twelve best months to knit or crochet! What are you currently working on or have plans to work on soon? Any UFOs (Unfinished Objects) calling for attention?

I have a vest or sleeveless t-shirt on the needles.
I was getting frustrated with not knowing what to knit (still undecided about yarn I bought a couple of years ago which seems only ever destined for swatches and frogging) and in desperation to start something (I need to knit!) I just quickly chose a plain vest and some left over yarn from another sweater.
I have calculated I do not have enough yarn so also on my list is sweater surgery on the original sweater made with this yarn. The original took an age to knit, an oversize v neck sweater with very light fingering (or lace weight?) and in the end stretched so much it is like a dress.
So, sweater surgery to make a stretched sweater shorter and hope I can salvage some yarn to finish the top on my needles. The yarn may not be salvageable though.
All seems a bit hit and miss which is how I inevitably end up working despite actually wanting everything planned out.

Also on my To Do list is to choose a pattern and buy some yarn. This is always too hard for me.
I’ve seen some yarn I might try but choosing a pattern seems impossible.

Hello everyone, hope you’re well and happy May!

Currently on my needles is a lightweight raglan called white mountains light. I bought yarn for it ages ago that looked fine in swatch but has caused me no end of bother. It’s a light dk and the pattern calls for 5mm needles so the fabric is airy but my tension is a mess and clearly my yarn choice was wrong. I’m keeping going and I’ll see if any of it blocks out. If not it’s rustic! I desperately needed to just knit round and round after doing 4 colour work projects on the bounce!

The pattern is great though. It goes from kids sizes to 6xl with modifications for crew neck, boat neck and vests. Really good value and I have a feeling I’ll return to it.

I’ve also just got back from my Edinburgh trip with a couple of skeins of kremke reborn which I’m quite excited about. It’s made from post consumer recycled clothes but is 60 or 70% wool. I’ve never knitted with wool before because I’m an awkward vegan knitter but knitting with wool saved from landfill is pretty great. No idea what I’m going to do with it though :joy:

Just got the front off the needles this afternoon. And the back is done. I need to seam up and check the width, the fabric is super stretchy and measures bigger than my size but it also contracts, so, maybe it will look too tight to be flattering on me (hmm I don’t have the figure I had a couple of years ago!). If it needs more width I will make panels for each side and do extra seaming. Then I’ll do the edging on the arm holes and neck.
Hard to see anything in a photo so I held it up to the light for a pic

Photo looks awful actually, never mind, I’m happy with it in real life.
I’d quite like to make a couple more t-shirt tops like this for the warmer days because it was so quick and easy and i didn’t need to think much about it.

Nearly finished this girl, a mimic of a G1 My Little Pony called Night Glider. Just got to sew on some more felt details. The mane and tail are lengths of Schjeepes glow in the dark cotton, the yellow moons are glow in the dark fabric, but I’m waiting for a UV torch so I can test them properly.

Edit - got my torch yesterday, so I’m updating with the night glowing pics - and wow, I think she looks amazing (maybe a tad creepy with the shadows, but the glow is still impressive)!
This was after only a moment or two of shining the torch on the symbols (the stars and purple planets are just ordinary felt, so it’s mainly the yellow, mane/tail and some of the stitching threads showing up)

Oh my word, beautiful!
Can you try a pic in the dark when you get the UV light?

Thank you, and sure!

Just finished this top down baby sweater. I learned so many things while doing this pattern. The sleeves were the only seaming required. Will definitely make this again.

So adorable and perfectly finished!

Still plugging away at this interminable bind-off for the Resplendence Shawl. I’m very happy with how distinct the zigzags are coming out, but it makes a slow bind-off even slower to do the increases and decreases! Doesn’t help that the suri is so very fine. I can only do a few sections at a time before my eyes refuse to do any more.

Wow, that is working perfectly. The points and bind off in general are exactly what you would wish. A well designed finish for this gorgeous blanket.

The points are just as @GrumpyGramma suggested–stop before the top stitch, do 2 rows of unattached I-cord, pick up the point stitch, 2 more rows without attaching. The Vs are: stop 1 stitch before the center, k3tog (which leaves you with 4 stitches), slide the 4 stitches onto L needle, k2tog, k1, k2togtbl. I have all the markers in the world on it, so I don’t blithely knit past the point where I need to change what I’m doing!

Beautiful job! Do you have the pattern to share?

That’s beautiful and worth the time and effort to be admired for many years. Thanks for mentioning me but I seriously don’t recall offering a suggestion. lol

edited because years was missing the R.
