I am pushing to finish the Garden Cardigan by Ankestrick for my middle daughter whose birthday is May 21st! Need to get it done early so I can send it to her in Rhode Island. Made one for myself and she really liked it and wanted one.
That’s awesome!
I think your bind off alone will take as long as an entire project of mine. I admire your ability, it’s so well done, perfect zigs and zags.
It’s just called Cardigan for Baby by Little French Knits (Florence Merlin is the designer - Ravelry).
It was nice to knit. ![]()
Yeah, it’s going so slowly! My eyes go buggy after just 2 or 3 points.
So beautiful ColoCro, perfectly done
Wow! I just saw your updated pics. It’s fantastic! I love the way it lights up, wonderful!
Thank you!
I was surprised how well the glow worked!
I finished my tank top/vest/slip over today (so many different names for things, it’s a sleeveless t-shirt).
This is the pattern I modified
And this is what I made
It’s not possible to photograph it well, it is light and see through, the pattern was for a DK yarn, I used a size 1 (fingeing or light fingeing?) bamboo and cotton mix. It’s so soft and light.
I added 2 columns of mock cable on reverse stockinette on one side which are unbroken up to the shoulder. The other side has 5 mock cable columns which ‘break’ in random places and the reverse stockinette background panel continues up to the neck and shoulder. And I distressed the front centre panel by pulling on the stockinette columns to make a sort of rough open look (more towards the top fading as it goes down). The back has similar mock cable on rev stockinette panels which break much sooner and become panels of rev stockinette with plain stockinette in the centre. It’s barely noticable on the pic but just adds some texture on the plain top.
I’ve also finished the sweater i did surgery on, but not taken a new pic as that one has been shown before. I took about 40cm off the bottom. Now I have learned to consider the stretch in a sweater with its own weight and some garter stitch stripes it stretched a lot and became a dress. But dress no more. I was worried about the surgery because I am generally useless at getting a needle in on one row without accidentally travelling to a different row, plus I can barely see what I’m doing with this fine yarn. But it all went very smoothly. I’ve worn the sweater and love it so much now. It’s a perfect length. I’m so lucky to have learned how to do sweater surgery thanks to this forum and the many kind knitters who make videos for me to watch!
I hated this yarn when I was gifted it. Now I love it. I’ve just ordered more in this size 1 weight in a different colour and the same brand and fibre mix in the next weight up too. For the sweater and the t-shirt the total cost was £24 which is astounding.
Enjoy wearing the beautiful sleeveless T!
I just finished installing my first zipper on a hand knit. Double sided basting tape is a must IMHO. Back zip baby jacket for great grandson arriving in the summer.
Kangaroo pocket on front
I found this pattern and started it, didn’t like the way it was working up with my yarn, ditched the pattern and did my own thing. Until I hand sewed the zipper it was seamless.
That little hoodie is adorable in every way! The back zipper is a terrific idea and it very well set in. A success all around.
Thanks for the tip on double sided basting tape, too.
Very cute. And how exciting to have another grand baby on the way! Congrats!
No idea what double sided basting tape is but thanks for the tip.
I love zip up sweaters and have wanted to make one ever since starting to knit again but I’m scared of not knitting the right kind of band to put a zip in, or getting the size of opening wrong for the zip, and of not being able to sew the zip in correctly. So many parts that could go wrong for me. You made it look so easy and neat!
Thank you! Basting tape is used to stick two pieces of fabric together before sewing, what I used washes out after. I cut the zipper because it was too long. lol That worked because the closed end is inside the hood. Should you decide to plan a zip up, I got my info from youtube. Zippers can be machine sewn but I didn’t have the nerve to do that. I back stitched it by hand.
@salmonmac Thank you! It was fun to make.
I don’t know if I’ll ever have the courage but if I do it will be knitting help and you tube all the way!
Basting tape replaces pins. That’s good. Pins can be hard to work with and/or around. I’ve bled on more than one sewing project in the past because I kept poking myself with straight pins.
Great to know! I’ve come to low key hate pins ![]()
So cute and expertly knit! I’ve never put in a zipper on a knitted sweater or vest because my sewing machine is unpredictable and I never thought I could neatly hand stitch it in place. I’m going to give this little sweater a try with the help of YouTube and the double sided tape.
Congrats on the the new grandchild!
Amazing and so lovely! This scarf will be a delight to wear. Get ready for the compliments
