Gorgeous work! I enjoy Malabrigo yarns but I’ve never used arroyo. Looks like it’s great for colorwork.
It is. I tend to use sock for colourwork as my default, but use arroyo with the same size needle 3.5mm. I’ve had the Flama and Black in my stash for ages, I got them with the Alaska hat in mind, but haven’t got round to it and with this pattern I thought they would work well.
I love Malabrigo. Colours do need a rinse through first though because they can bleed. The Black in particular needed several rinses before the water ran clear.
Well done! If you decide you don’t like it let me know, I’ll help you out and take it. I think you’ll like using this a lot!
I’m knitting the Shirley mosaic socks from PomPom’s “Ready Set Socks”; still can’t post photos from my iPad and can’t face waking up my laptop! Pathetic, I know!! Not sure what it is about knitting socks - I don’t even like wearing them much, except stocking-y ‘pop’ socks and shoe-liner socks! But I do like giving them away (probably to poor recipients who don’t like socks much either!) and I especially like knitting socks for small children; since small children don’t much like wearing shoes you get to see their socks, so it’s worth it!! And socks are a lovely small palette for creativity, aren’t they.
PS: I put that puffy ‘non-slip sock’ stuff on the bottoms of children’s socks so they won’t slip - it’s great. Sometimes I write their names with it - don’t suppose they can necessarily read if they are too little, but their parents seem to be amused…
I can only wear my hand knit socks if it’s quite cold. Wool socks are too hot otherwise. I wear a lot of cotton socks I purchased. Sometimes my feet get chilly and I wear them without shoes inside.
Agreed re cotton socks; wish I liked knitting in cotton better - it’s so unforgiving, although there are mixtures that are kinder.
Love the crocheted bag, you talented person!
What a good idea to use that puffy paint to write the child’s name on the bottom of the sock. I agree about making children’s socks. All the fun of socks just smaller.
I might save you some bother. IME cotton yarns make for crappy hand knit socks. They just don’t have the needed elasticity and feel not-so-nice underfoot. I used some cotton blend for a pair of socks that have hardly been worn. I might frog them to make something else. I tried the cotton/elastic blend and decided that’s a no go too. I just wish I could find manufactured cotton socks that don’t have polyester in them since polyester in socks is for me very uncomfortable to wear. I just want some socks like I could buy 30 years ago.
Thank you!
Got the last pieces done for my Anne Hanson “Leaving” cardigan, in Jody Long ‘Alba’. Now to sew it together and do the bands
This sweater is going to be fantastic! Simply gorgeous lace pattern.
Of course it’s OK! Looks great!
There was a learning curve involving eyelets before/after purl stitches. The sleeves are way more even than on the back!
Wow! That’s fantastic! I suspect that over time the eyelets on the back will even out some. Don’t tell anyone and they’ll never know!
It looks AMAZING - look forward to seeing the finished garment! Gorgeous colour, I’ll check out Jody Long “Alba”.
Very helpful, GrumpyGramna and agreed re polyester in socks - too hot, especially where I live in Hong Kong. You’d think it would be easy, wouldn’t you, to buy plain cotton socks, in this age of caring about environmental things and trying to avoid poly-anything? They must exist somewhere!
