Whatcha' Knitting? July, 2025

We’ve all been there! I find it helpful (more like essential!!) to put markers every 20 stitches, even on plain work. If there’s a pattern, I put them at ever pattern repeat. It makes it so much easier to find my mistakes in time to fix them.

That’s really nice, what kind of yarn did you use? The stitch definition looks really good.

Oh, thank you. The yarn is knit picks Comfy worsted weight (75% Pima cotton, 25% Acrylic)
I really like the yarn also. For a baby it doesn’t have all that fuzzy stuff that can shed. Also it has a very soft feel when knitted up. Kind of pricey for a blanket due the number of balls needed. I couldn’t find a substitute that might work. So I used this yarn and have no regrets.

My yarn arrived and I cast on yesterday. This lovely asymmetrical top. Im using Drops Belle which is a linen cotton mix.

And I’m just about to bind off the back pieces

Enjoying it so far although my gauge bares no resemblance to the pattern gauge I’m going to continue and see if I like the size once it’s finished and I’ve tried it on. My contrast colour for the front is not the colour I really wanted but I’m going to see how it goes and if I don’t like it knitted I’ll hunt down a place with a ball of the colour I wanted for it.

Wow. I can’t believe how much you’ve knitted in one day. That would have taken me weeks.

Oh, well it was 2 days, i cast on yesterday morning and did the first half (left of pic) then today I cast on the second half (right of pic).
I do have a lot of time on my hands though, my little Mister is at school 7 hrs a day and i can’t do household chores other than online shopping due to my disability so I have quite a lot of knitting time.
I’m not a speed knitter by any stretch of the imagination, but I do knit at a goodish rate - my problem is i take for ever deciding what to make or being unable to choose yarn. Once i get started the actual knitting part seems to fly by.

I am knitting Frida’s Long Colourful Jacket, except…

  1. I am not making a jacket (I am turning it in to a pullover) because I didn’t want to fuss with the button band, and I have lots of jackets.
  2. I am not quite following her colour scheme. This is both because I can’t get her colours here, but also because it is so much fun to work in colours I think are pretty with abandon!

I am also not sure I can wear so many flowers in my hair. They do set off the knitting particularly well…

This is so lovely!

Very nice. I love the colour you’ve chosen, it looks more vintage and sophisticated than the lighter cream in the pattern pic.

Thanks Creations the color choice was picked out by my sister as I’m making it for her.

Aren’t they great? Some really fun ones to be found! Did you get any?

I’ve also got the flintstones one but I think one cartoon character jumper a year is enough! Forcing myself to do the sleeves before I start on the intarsia because every time I do the “fun” bit and then remember I have the rest to do.

Maybe you need to make the sleeves more fun??!
I love knitting stripes, maybe add a few to the sleeves for a bit of a break from the solid stockinette.

I resisted getting any of the patterns (at this time, ha) as i already have such a list of patterns to make! I’d definitely be able to wear a cartoon character.

I’m working on a blanket, Look for Happiness blanket by Fifty Four Ten Studio. It’s a relaxing knit. Just gotta remember that row 1 is a wrong side row, that threw me when I first started thinking I had messed something up. It’s for a Christmas gift for my son’s mother in law. She’s knit worthy :P.

Lovely blanket. Is this called garter rib in the main fabric? I’m not very good at identifying stitches, it looks really nice.
I like the phrase, ‘she is knit worthy’. Great phrase.

What a great heirloom gift! Beautifully done.

The border is a seed stitch, the stitch patterning in the middle isn’t a garter stitch, but it is a knit and purl textured stitch. I bought the pattern on Love Crafts when I was looking for a textured blanket pattern and saw this one and fell in love with the textured look, but you can also find it on Ravelry.

Gorgeous!!

Thanks. I finished the blanket 2 days before due date. It’s now being blocked so as soon as it dries I will take a finished project picture.

Bit disappointed with this pattern. I do like the overall idea and effect but the widths of front and back are different also the widths of the 2 front halves. In my opinion, the stitch count in the pattern should have taken into account the overlap of stitches and pull in of the joined fabric pieces, much the same as accounting for width loss when working cables. The contrast colour should be 4 stitches (which is a full inch in gauge) wider than it is. It’s disappointing because it looks lopsided when on and although it is obviously an asymmetrical design, when a join comes so close to the centre line one expects it to be on the centre line, if it is on the centre then one sleeve cap is a lot longer than the other so it still looks lopsided. It really shouldn’t have one quarter of the piece an inch narrower than the rest.

Anyway, I’m fudging it as best i can, possibly by tightening one shoulder seam more than the other to try to even it out. Then I’m adding sleeves which are not in the pattern but make it more wearable for me and I’m hoping sleeves will camouflage the obvious sleeve length issue.

Here the knitting for the pattern is finished and the shoulders are temporarily sewn with embroidery thread.
