Whatcha' Knitting? July, 2025

What a way to start off the summer! Heat wave for many of us in the northern hemisphere. Are you working on smaller projects, second socks or washcloths? Or do you press on with blankets and sweaters depite the outside temps?
We’d love to know what’s on your needles and hooks. Started those planned projects from last January?

I just finished Floof the Squirrel, by Sonja van der Wijk, for a contest at my LYS, and I’ve started the 1898 Hat, by Kristine Byrnes, which will be my travel knitting for an upcoming trip to Iceland and Greenland!

Great entry for the contest. The boutonniere is just the perfect Floof touch.

That’s adorable! Love the big eyes
I’m not knitting much at the moment, I’m working on a community movie flip book project but I’ve still got lots of knitty ideas buzzing in my head in the meantime!

July! Crazy!

I’m getting back to having time to knit now my cat’s health has improved and the stress is subsiding a bit.

I’ve decided to make a really silly intarsia jumper with a picture of the cartoon character Count Duckula on it because I need a bit of whimsy in my life. The pattern is an old Gary Kennedy one and I used to look at them and think “one day I’ll learn how to knit and make one of those” so it’s a nice feeling to be at that one day! Hope you’re all well!

I’m glad your cat is better! It’s always horrible when pets aren’t well.
I used to watch Count Duckula, pretty sure I’ve seen the pattern floating around on the internet, too. It looks like a fun knit.

I have been ill and despite having three weeks off work have not been inclined to pick up anything. So, button booties remain my focus just got to get enough enthusiasm to get going again

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been ill but I hope you’re starting to feel better. It’s difficult to concentrate or find interest when you’re not feeling well.
Getting back via booties is impressive since they aren’t always the easiest projects to figure out. Hope you’re back and feeling more like yourself soon!

@NayPo I’m really looking forward to seeing your intarsia jumper, wow you really sent me down a worm hole of patterns after you mentioned the designer Gary Kennedy… I’ve barely been up for air and totally forgot to even post here! I get so carried away looking at all those patterns and wondering if i should make one too (i say this every time i see a pattern, i need to make everything!).

@Nanny189 sorry to hear you’ve been too poorly to knit, that’s dull. Good you’re starting to feel better now and i hope you’re 100% very soon.

I’ve been frogging more than knitting (had a full front tshirt finished then decided i didn’t like it in that yarn, lots of frogged swatches too). Breaking stitchfiddle more than making charts, and dithering over which yarn to order, in fact i delayed so long my chosen yarn went out of stock. Not sure i even like the colour of the yarn i ended up ordering so I’ll just wait and see when it arrives.

I did also finish my cable seater a couple of weeks back but forgot to photograph it. I’ve worn it lots! I like it a lot although the v at the neck is pretty low and makes the shoulders slip off which is a bit annoying but I still love it and the bamboo/cotton yarn is so soft.

Can you run a little backstitch along the back neck edge, to help control the sweater from sliding off? Maybe a little along the shoulder seams as well. If you pull each stitch just a teensy bit tight, it should help stabilize things.

I’m working on this ABC baby blanket. My niece’s baby is due in about 10 days. But I’m on the last level of the blocks. I chose this color since she kind of has a woodland theme for the baby’s room. I should have started on this sooner but I just got overwhelmed with other things. But pleased so far with the results.

The sweetest blanket ever! It looks lovely and fits perfectly with the woodland theme.

Yes, maybe across the back neck, not sure I’d want to touch the shoulders i fussed over faux grafting the cables there so probably wouldn’t want to risk puckering anything there. I might also try a light lace panel in a different colour in a triangle as a kind of faux cami top which would hold the v more in place. I’ll probably leave it for now, until its driving me nuts then I’ll see if i can modify it.

Lovely yarn and sweater! What is the name of the yarn? It works so well with the cardigan.

I’ve also got this one to make another.

One project on my needles is a shawl and it’s turned out to be a reminder of me wondering why I knit. Or, attempt to knit. No matter how careful I try to be, I end up with the wrong number of stitches in the row. It’s been sitting beside my chair now for a week… Having a hip replacement surgery scheduled to happen soon, and gardens to care for when I recover enough for that, I doubt if I’ll get back to knitting before the snow flies again. But… I do love the look of the shawl and I’m stubborn enough to finish it. Eventually!
