Whatcha' Knitting? February, 2026

Just getting used to January and the new year, and here we are with 1/12th the year gone already!
What’s on your needles or hooks or what’s ahead for you? New ideas, patterns or techniques to try out? We’d love to know because it’s always inspiring.
In early celebration of Valentine’s Day:

I have no business casting on another project let alone buying more yarn for the project. I think I have an illness called “Cast on another project and temporarily abandon current project.”

Anyway, this is the pattern and the yarn is Lana Grossa Superkid Seta, 65% mohair and 35% silk.

I googled the yarn and Lana Grossa had a sale, buy two, get one free. Unable to resist a bargain, I caved.

I think many of us suffer from the same illness. That looks so lovely and soft!

Totally understandable! Gorgeous yarn.

I am the opposite, it takes me too long to get to the point of casting on, I always have too many measurements, mods, questions and swatches to do be before I finally get going!

That’s an interesting pattern, the sweater looks quite heavy in the picture but your yarn and knitting look incredibly light!

I have 2 almost complete sleeves, both worked up to about the armhole and now on hold. I need to decide on the exact measurements needed from here. I initially planned a modified drop sleeve but now wondering if I’ll change to set in sleeve. Not sure if I am going to figure this all out now or after I have the front and back worked up to the same place.

I just recently bought a hand held steamer for my knitted pieces which I haven’t tried out yet. I think it will be a useful tool for blocking and relaxing the fabric.

The yarn is as light as a feather. What’s not to like about 65% mohair and 35% silk?

Like many others, I’m knitting red hats. I did the first one exactly as the pattern, and it’s a lot smaller than what I expected. The shaping at the top is totally lost. And 6" of 1x1 ribbing is…a lot. So I switched to 4"of 2x2 and then did 6" of stockinette before the decreases. Might make the next one even taller, not sure yet.

I’m just starting this hat so thank you for the tips. Knew that 2x2 rib would be a better bet for me but lovely to see how it works out.

I’m using a pattern I wrote several years ago for beckoning cats, to make key rings as a change of pace. I want to update it a bit, but Word no longer works on my laptop

Basically I’m challenging myself to use yarns and stuff I already have, and my goal is to make 50. I wrote the pattern to have several options so while it seems daunting, it won’t get too boring!

Oh, cats! Sounds wonderful. Your own pattern too.

I don’t know why Word no longer works for you but you might try LibreOffice instead. It comes preloaded with my Linux OS and is available for other operating systems. It’s free too.

My laptop is quite old now, which might be partly why, but it still doesn’t make much sense and is really annoying! But thank you so much for the recommendation!

Edited for cat photo, I have 3 others nearly finished!

Shame word won’t work. Do you have your patterns printed? Or could you somehow email the file to someone else to print?

I use libreoffice too but we have Linux computer (and android tablets with word).

You might consider totally moving to Linux if you want more use out of your laptop. It’s good on older things, just makes them work, of course it’s always a big decision to change systems though.

I have one printed copy, I just published it to Ravelry a while back and wanted to edit the pdf if possible. I never actually sold any copies so it’s more a just in case thing than proper errata, but I do need to add better photos too lol.

I do hate change, but will admit I was thinking of weaning myself off Windows, so Linux is definitely something to consider.

Since older versions of Windows are no longer supported and newer versions simply won’t run on older hardware I think you’ll have to either spend the money on a new computer (I’m not that wealthy!) that is designed for MS or try Linux. Mint Cinnamon is my ‘flavor’ of choice but there are others. Your data is more secure in Linux also and I don’t need anti-virus software at all. I have to enlist my grandson to get a usb stick formatted properly to be bootable is my only issue.

ETA If we are going to continue this discussion I think we need a new thread just for the topic. It’s knitting related since patterns are a must but it’s not actually knitting. I’m not complaining just making a suggestion.

Looks Great in your version! Which pattern did you use, and how do you get that seam across the top?

It’s based on the Melt the Ice hat, but with changes. I cast on 100, using worsted weight and Size 8 needles. 4" of 2x2 ribbing, then 6" of stockinette before starting the decreases, which are what create the point. There aren’t any seams…just the decreases at two spots. This way, it’s tall enough to flop over with the weight of the tassel added.

Thank you! It looks fantastic.
