I am so happy to have found this site! I’ve been knitting on and off for decades and now that I’m retired (woohoo!) I have more time and headspace to challenge myself with more difficult projects. A thread here solved a problem I was having that I was determined to solve. I will find that thread and comment there too.

Hi there, I’m excited to join this community! My name is Shannon. I’m very new to knitting but have crocheted here and there. I noticed that there are many more knit garment patterns that I love than crochet ones, so I’m working my way up to some of those! Welcome to the forum both of you! I am a self taught knitter.
I am new to the site and very hopeful that I can increase my knowledge with the help of you fabulous knitters. I am currently knitting a collared bolero (King Cole 4504) and I am struggling. To find the neatest way to do the curves along the bottom front. I need to cast on 4 sts at the end of a row which is no problem … I use the cable inc. But at the beginning of the row it says to inc one stitch in first st. What is the neatest way to do this so that it looks seamless when I pick up later for the ribbed band. I’m using a superfine fingering yarn Sesia flora paillettes so there is no give and it splits easily.

Very graceful and delicate bolero. You could use the right or left lifted increase. Also a M1 works pretty invisibly. If you’re going to pick up sts along that edge you might move the increase to the next stitch in so that you leave a clean stitch at the edge for the pick up.
