Wotcher! Just saying hi, - never been on a forum before and am a self-taught multi-coloured cable knitter so am basically bumbling along as best I can, with many more ideas than hands and hours to realise them, a happy situation I’m sure is quite common. So, er…Happy New Knitting Year everyone! And so on to my quest which is to find some cables for interchangeable needles that aren’t nylon and won’t drive me bonkers!
Wlecome DerekM!
Many here are self-taught so you have lots of company in that. Search the forum for discussions of needle cables which come up fairly often or post a question in General Knitting.
Happy Knitting in the New Year to you too!
Thanks for the welcome and your helpful leg-up with my quest. I’ve had a little wander around the site, and as a complete newcomer to forums - I’m not sure how to actually post my question, other than creating a new topic in General Knitting, which doesn’t seem right. So, er… do I just reply to a vaguely on-topic thread? Can you point me to a generic posting resource that helps absolute complete and utter newcomers? Huge apologies for General Incompetence and many thanks for your patience!
Here’s one example of a past discussion that may help:
If you add to an older post your question may get lost. Go ahead and post a new topic to General Knitting. There are always new sets or fixed needles coming along and I’m sure knitters will be happy to share their experiences.
Hello from Papua New Guinea. I love knitting and am really hoping to learn more and contributed to this awesome community!
Happy New Year 2017!

Welcome to Knitting Help! Happy New Year!
Greetings from Germany!
I’m not really that new to knitting - but just started again after a couple of years not doing anything. Basic stuff is pretty straightforward - my intarsia project wasn’t, but I managed to complete it at last. At the moment I’m working on a jumper, and I will need another month at the very least.
I really hope to learn quite a lot in this community - there’s stilll soooo much to learn, and I really loooove knitting!
All the best,
Helena
Hi. I’m a reasonably experienced knitter but there’s always something new to learn or try and this forum has a wealth of information and looks really friendly. I knit for my 2 children, and for charity via another knitting forum. I’ll have a go at anything and am trying to learn how to re-draft knitting patterns to fit me (very much a work in progress!). Knitting in the round has defeated me so far and I’ve never made socks so these are on my list of things to master.
I’m very glad to have found this forum.
Alison
Welcome, Alison!
Sounds like you have lots of experience and some good plans for future projects. Glad to have you join us.
I am a mediocre knitter looking to improve. There are no fiber arts groups in my area to learn from and share with. This is such a great resource community!
Welcome @hcf @appledumpling and @Wndrflme!
Thx for letting me join. I’m an iffy knitter, but always looking for fiber art improvement.

Hello, from New York!
My name is Laura and I’m a married mom of two boys. I’m an avid crocheter, but I very much want to take up knitting. I know the very basics and I’ve completed a couple hats. I’m working on my first pair of socks, lol. I look forward to making friends and learning more!
Welcome wndrflme and Jimsgrl! Happy to have you join us. We’re at all levels here and all learning from each other. There’s always something new in knitting and crochet.

Hallo allemaal.
@Hannie_De_Wit
Mijn Nederlands is niet-bestaand, maar je kunt het beste lid worden van de schouders samen met 3 naald kant af. Heeft u live steken?
My Dutch is non-existent but you can best join the shoulders together with 3 needle bind off. Do you have live stitches?
Geweldig fijn dat u heeft gereageerd, dit is inderdaad een hele mooie en makkelijke manier om de schouders aan elkaar te breien. ben erg blij met u reactie en ga meteen aan de slag, bedankt
