A post was split to a new topic: How many stitches?
Hi. I am not a knitter but a manager of one. I am from Nigeria and would love to improve the quality of knitted wears made in my country. I am looking forward to setting up a knitting school and am in need of lots of information such as
- Which country make the best yarn for knitting in the world?
- Which yarn product is actually the best for knitting pupose?
- Yeye yarn seem to be of topmost quality in my locality. Who are the producers and how can I get in touch with them for possible supply?
- What is the cheapest yarn available for knitting (this could prove useful for training).
All these and many more I would like to know and thus would appreciate any assistance. My email is on my profile. Anticipating an angel…
Hi. Just found this site while trying to figure out a solution to too tight ribbing. I am knitting another sweater for my daughter and have to make some adjustments to the pattern. Great information here. Thanks for letting me join.
There is no one best yarn and every person has their own opinion. Price varies by country as well as store so that can’t be answered easily. Quality also varies. There are thousands of fibers, yarns and price. So no easy answers, sorry.
Hi everyone! I am a college student who loves to craft and i am trying to expand my yarn skills. Knitting is HARD! SO i am glad i found this place.
Kirsten
Hi Kirsten and welcome! It’s hard for everyone, but you’ll get it!
Hi everyone,
my name is Heloisa and I am super beginner on the knitting! I already knitted one blanket and one scarf. I am very happy to find this place!
Welcome to KnittingHelp, Heloisa and welcome to the knitting world!
We all enjoy is very much and are always happy to have a newcomer join us.
I realized it was 10 years ago when I first introduced myself … Wow! time flies by. I adore the new forum!
@heloisalavorato, after a scarf and a blanket, I think you’ve moved up from super beginner to at least beginner status!
I love all things fiber … knitting, crochet, spinning, prepping wool to spin, felting & fulling, weaving … I’m that annoying grandmother who knits people scarves, mittens, hats & socks for Christmas
My husband & I live on a homestead (no, we don’t raise sheep, however we raise just about everything else & I do support my local shepherdesses). He’s a blacksmith & woodworker, I’m a soapmaker & fiber artist. I also love to garden & can.
Hubby bought me enough yarn for Christmas to knit a long wool coat to replace the one I’ve worn the past decade … he has been my biggest fiber enabler
Hello, I’ve been knitting, crocheting, and doing embroidery since quite young, but off and on. I never made a garment, only blankets, shawls, scarves, etc. I work full time and so have less free time than I would like. I learned to knit from an older European woman who was a neighbor and so I knit Continental style. In addition, I hold the left needle under my arm and knit “off” that needle. I’ve tried to knit the other way but to no avail. In addition, because circular needles are so short I can’t use them because I can’t hold the left one under my arm. I’ve a beautiful cowl pattern that I want to make but the pattern is written for circular needles. So I began looking around and found this site. I hoping to find out how to modify the pattern to knit with straight needles instead.
Welcome MaryM!
Good to have you join the forum. Depending on the pattern you may be able to adapt it from knitting in the round to knitting flat. If you need help, post a question in the How-to category of the forum and we’ll try to help out.
Thank you. I posted my question to the How-To group.
Hi everyone, my name is Kunbi and I’m based in the UK. Stumbled on this forum while searching for answers to a project I have lined up to do in the near future. I have been knitting and crocheting since I was 8 years old although I took a long break once I hit my teenage years. Now in my late 30s, I picked up knitting and crocheting last year and I have not looked back since! So stocked to have found this forum!
Wow…I just found this website…I’ve always wondered where I’d turn when I need help with my knitting, and now I know.
Your members sure know a lot about the ins and out of knitting. I hope to be on their level one day. Thanks for a great site.
Hi and welcome Kunbi and Lil-Chi! More and more people seem to be stumbling upon and we couldn’t be happier. Knitters and crocheters make the best community.
Happy you found us and joined.
Hello Fellow Knitters! I am fairly novice at knitting, but once I start a project I can’t stop. This part drives me crazy!
Right now I am knitting an amazing looking shawl that looks like it will be very forgiving. AND I love the fact that I can use all my yarn remnants to make it with! It is a WINNER.

I am stuck on the pattern where it seems to repeat itself, so I am unclear if I am reading it correctly.
What does it say: K3, K5 ? Why not say K8?
THANKS!
Karen
Hello fellow knitters!!
Like many of you, I stumbled across this group randomly and less than 24 hours ago, I posted a pattern question that was stumping me and a few of you brilliant knitters have already replied and helped me!
Thank you so much!!
My name is Amy and I’m an English girl living in Massachusetts. I’ve been knitting for about 4 years and I’m trying my hand at some new, harder projects.
Next stop: circular needles!!
Thanks again for this fab site!
Welcome! Please start a new thread in How-to Questions category to get help. This is the welcome thread and not everyone checks it. Please provide a link to the pattern when you post. That one goes to your computer I think.
Hi I’m sorry I forgot to introduce myself when I signed up recently. I started knitting when I was 12 years old, stayed with it for 4-5 years, then took a 45 year break
I’m now back at it because its a wonderful way to while away these Canadian winters, and my wife has made it into a bit of a mutual challenge. My first project when I got back into it, believe it or not, was a pair of cabled 3-needle socks. Hows that for a baptism of fire?!!
We live on Vancouver Island in BC and LOVE IT here.
Glad to be aboard - this looks like a great wealth of information
Steve
Welcome Karen, amyj and Steve! Whether you’re starting out or have years of experience behind you, it’s good to have you join us. We all enjoy the adventure of knitting so much and find that there are always new things to learn.
Karen, Looks like the designer just wasted to emphasize the k3 border on a couple of rows. Perhaps it’s helpful if there are people modifying the pattern or border?
