I looked at your links, and love the idea of putting in the squeaker and bell. What is the ‘krinkle’ stuff you mention? I also really love the teddybear picnic pattern, and the bunny family…what fun!! I can’t wait to see your finished things.

That toys has it in it… (the krinkle stuff) I’m wondering what type of plastic I could use for it. I’m very excited I want to start them NOW! But I need to finish a few things first… ok back to knitting so I can finish those and start on the Elephant.
Dawn love the idea of putting the different things in the legs of the elephant. it will be so cute. I would have thought that you could use any sort of plastic that has a crinkly sound to it. maybe crisp packages or some other food wrap that is noisy. Just be sure to give it a good wash first.

I would think you could get a small cat toy to use for the bell. Maybe you could find something similar in the pet toys section for the squeaker. (I think I would look at a thrift shop or a dollar store for those things.) As for something crinkly, I keep thinking of cereal box liners. Those things are the crinkliest things in the world when you’re trying to quietly make a box late at night, or early in the morning. :teehee:
That’s a really good idea! I found some squeakers on line, but Goodwill will be a lot cheaper!
And the cereal box liner will work too…
Okay, I FINALLY have the photo of the knitted balls I made in July. I have these to my daughter’s boyfriend. He must have played with them for 2 hours today! :roflhard: I’m going to make some more for my DSD’s nephews that she’s adopting.

I like those Jan, thanks for the link. Nice and easy pattern, think I will make some for my son, he is always getting told off for throwing/kicking a ball around in the house.
They are super soft and squishy so they don’t hurt anything. I thought it might be cute to make a bunch in two different colors and the kids can have a “snowball” fight in the house. :teehee: They are a little hard to juggle because they are so light they tend to bounce out of your hands. My daughter’s boyfriend was doing pretty well though. 
I love those balls! You chose the perfect yarn for them too!
I am curious as to what kinds of yarn everyone is using? In my Honey Bunny pattern it does mention dk weight, but not a type…ie wool, cotton, or acryllic. Do you have your favorites for toys?

I like to use soft yarn, but I guess you’d want something durable also…unless it’s just going to be displayed.

I knit alot of toys, and I usually buy the cheaper brands at walmart or zellers for them. As long as the yarn is NOT scratchy, it’s fine!
I did make one bunny in a more expensive yarn, and she turned out as well (not better) as the cheaper yarns I used…
so, to sum up my post, I think it all depends on your preferences. If you prefer working with really nice yarns, then use those. If it doesn’t really matter to you, the cheaper ones work great for toys!
Actually…not so much. I thought camo would be cool for little boys, but, because of the nature of variegated yarn the colors change in concentric (although irregular) circles. They tend to look like [COLOR=Silver]boobs [/COLOR]so I won’t give them to the kids. Next ones will be solid colors. :teehee:
Jan - The balls are great , And sounds like they are a big hit with DD boyfriend lol
Fran - I normally use an acrylic but i think anything washable in the correct weight is fine .
As toys will need to be washed after the kids won’t part with them lol 
I’ve heard of them using cellophane wrapping paper to put into other toys that krinkle. I haven’t tried it myself, but I think it should work. You can usually find it in the dollar type stores, but may be able to find it in other stores like Wal-mart. Make sure it isn’t the shrink wrap type, because if they forget and throw the toy in the dryer, it’ll melt.

Have y’all been able to find polyfill that is machine and dryer safe? The stuff I have is ok for machine but not dryer. I can just make the toy to machine washing and air drying, but that takes SOOO LONG with stuffed animals! I’d like for it to be ok for both.
The little balls are wonderful! I can just see Lexie throwing them at her dad!. I would love to have a video of that!..: )

That was just the encouragement I needed. I can’t get into my lys untill next week, but wanted to start something now, and since I have some Baby Soft, in white, I am going to use that for now. I already have one leg done, and so far it has been easy and fun! I think I would like to do something like MamaDawn is doing with her little elephant, and put something in it to make a little noise, but I am getting ahead of myself. Back to work…: )

I got both parts of the trunk finished knitting… I was reading the body and wasn’t sure about part of it… but it’s way later in the pattern, so I’m going to start that part and see if it makes more sense when I get to it.

I was thinking about recording something like, “I love you Lexie” or “Grandma love’s you” I suppose it depends on how much you can say in 10 seconds…
I have to order it, so will have to wait until it gets here to finish the stuffing, but I can do all the other pieces while I’m waiting.
