Hi I am Dawn.
I am trying to knit a toddlers hoodie.
Up to now I have managed to follow the pattern. I am not sure if I have posted this in the right place. As I’m not sure how to send messages and ask for help. I apologise if this is in the wrong place

Hi Dawn!
Your question has been shifted to this thread. All you have to do now is hit the Reply button and ask your question. Any time a response has been posted, there will be a little blue dot added to your icon at upper right (most often a circle with your initial in it).
Hi. Norma and ColoCro.
Thank you both for the response.
I have just finished the second sleeve. Next thing is to
sew up raglan seams.
If I have watched videos correctly I have to sew the back seam of a sleeve to the back matching where it either increases or where the stitches have been decreased. After that I feel that I will be totally out of my comfort. I would upload the instructions but I have not worked out how to do this
You can upload a photo by clicking on the landscape icon at the top of a Reply box.
A pop up box will help you with the next steps: choose a photo and upload.
Well done!
These are the directions for the collar or neck. They will come after directions for sewing up the sweater parts. The hoodie may proceed from here. You’ll need to use a small circular needle if you are to follow these directions.
Slip the sts for your size (1 stitch for the first size), then pick up and knit 6sts up the right front neck (the right front as you would wear the sweater). Here’s a video for picking up and knitting in case you need it.
https://www.knittinghelp.com/video/play/pick-up-and-knit-stitches
Follow the directions to continue picking up along the sleeve top including the decrease, the back held sts, the second sleeve and the left front. Knit a held stitch at the front and place markers as noted.
If this isn’t your question, just let us know and we’ll try to help. There are other ways to do this with one seam open on the sweater and different needles.
And good going with the upload!
Maybe this pattern:
After you’ve sewn the sleeves to the backs, you’ll add the fronts. Then you can start working around the neck and the hood.
Hi ColoCro
That is the knitting pattern I am trying to do. I have one question for you. Do I sew the raglan seams to the front as well as the back ones.
I really appreciate your help thank you so much.

Hi me again .
All I had to do is look at your diagram again and I can see you do sew to the front . So, ignore my question .

Hi Salmonmac
I have sewn up all my raglan seams.
Now I have come to the bit I don’t understand. I have to pick up stitches from right front neck etc. I am beginning to regret I started this . When I began to sew up the raglan seams I discovered I had made a mistake on my front . Twice I had to undo the front before I got it right
Ok, raglan seams successfully closed up. Yes, some mistakes wait till almost the end of a project to show up but it sounds like you’ve sorted it out.
Which size are you making, first, second, etc?
For the first size, there is a stitch on hold for the right front (right as you would wear the sweater). Slip it onto the needle and using the M yarn pick up and knit 6sts up the right front. (Pick up or pick up and knit mean the same thing.) See if the video posted above helps with the pick up. I oftern use markers to make sure I stay on track with the pick up of sts but these numbers are small enough that you may not need them.
Proceed to knit 4 held sts from the right sleeve top, knitting the last stitch together with the first stitch from the back. Now work across the 9sts for the back neck knitting together the last back stitch with the first sleeve top stitch. Continue to knit across the sleeve top sts then pick up and knit 6sts down the left front and finish with the one held stitch.
I often do a diagram of the sweater neck and write in the stitch number to make it easier to see as I’m knitting.
You’ve almost finished this sweater so much of the work is complete. Just this finishing touch and you’ll have it. You can do this!
Sorry to bother you again .
Just to get this right in my head I pick up the stitches right side and not wrong side. You must think of me being thick. It’s been along time since I knitted and I’m sure I never tried anything like this before.
It’s just like when a friend gave me for a Christmas a cross stitch of my late dog. Yes I’ve done some cross stitch but never to a set pattern. There are four pages to this pattern and I keep looking at. I have been told I start on about page three in the middle. One day I hope to complete the cross stitch .
Thanks again for all of your support
Your posts are no bother. That’s what we’re here for. These directions can be confusing. It’s another language and even dialect. It’s not you, it’s the knitting pattern.
Yes, you want the right side or outside or public side of the knitting facing you when you do this pick up. When the pattern says “…up the right front neck…” it’s referring to the right side as opposed to the left side of the front. Start at the red dots in the diagram below. I used the stitch numbers from the first size.
If this isn’t clear to you, just come back and ask again. We won’t be happy until you are.
