Tank top pattern: Favorites?

Hi Everybody-

I am now out of the end of the year grading hole and can now think about summer knitting. Woo-hoo! :happydancing:
Now that I have been knitting for almost a year, I’d like to knit myself something to wear (other than a hat, scarf or mittins) and so I thought I could maybe knit a tank top.

I’d like a tank that I don’t have to worry about the peeking draw strap problem. And one without too much shaping at the waist, as my hips are erm, generous.

Do you have any favorite patterns to share or suggest?

Thanks!

Julie

someone just started a summer top KAL that had some adorable tanks listed. I just bought the ChicKami pattern from Chic knits (http://chicknits.com) and it is very versatile- wide or skinny straps- shaped bodice or no shaping. I’m having a little brain block about how much, exactly, it cost, but it wasn’t outrageous.

just a bit curious… where is “upper south, western East coast”???

You might try looking for a pattern at www.knittingpatterncentral.com – they have patterns separated into different types of sweaters ( pullovers, sleeveless etc )

Good luck - let us know what you have decided to do!! Oh, and BTW, there is a “first sweater KAL” going - it´s a good place to get help!

West Virginia!

All the ones I have found have shaping, and since I don’t know what your bust is, i don’t really know what to suggest, but there are a couple i will post after i go find the links. I will be watching too, since I am very interested in knitting tanks right now too.

The Summertime Tunic from Interweave Knits is REALLY cute and looks really easy (and it’s a free pattern on their site). I’m too fat to pull it off, but I was just throwing it out there in case anyone else might like it.

I made this and it has instructions for short rows for bra sizes c and bigger. It was my first clothing project. It’s called Scarlet Woman at www.pieknits.com.

I am going to make this one. It is free if you click the link that says printable version. It has shaping, but it says you can leave it out.

The archives at knitty.com have a lot of nice tank/shell patterns.

:happydance: Me too!! well not right now we moved to OH but both of our families are still in WV… I haven’t been home since Dec… can’t wait till June so I can go home… nothing like good ol’ WV :woot:

lissalue that is a really pretty tank!!

I have 2 that I’m wanting to start for myself and will wear a strapless bra to get rid of the annoying strap thing…

the interweave summer tunic mentioned below and this one

also if you can find spring/summer Knit Simple it has several tank patterns in it… so does the May Creative Knitting…

I¨m hoping to start on this one soon: http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visoppskrift.php?d_nr=78&d_id=24&lang=us The woman at the LYS suggested to do the ribbing at the bottom in the larger needle as well so that it is not so “clingy”

I just finished this top: http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visoppskrift.php?d_nr=81&d_id=1&lang=us Not exactly a tank, but summery!

Wow–that is pretty! How hard was it? And which yarn did you use – the classic elite or the elann sonata?

HeyKaren, I LOVE that second pattern you posted! I’m almost finished with my current project and I’m going to start that one next week I hope!

Good luck!!! I got hung up in a few places, but posted questions on the “how to” threads and go through it fine. Now if it would just warm up a tad, I could wear it…

Vicky, I see you did the cupcake hat - was that hard? ( sorry, this is a bit OT ) I saved the pattern and really haven`t read through it, but was wondering if it was difficult for a beginner?

I made the very last one here http://www.dreamweaveryarns.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_75_81&products_id=1131 - with the wide-ribbed bottom half. It knit up really easily, and the shoulders are definitely wide enough to cover.

Where in WV? I’m up in the panhandle in Ohio Co.

cftwo: I really like that pattern! :inlove:Can you tell me about the yarn requirements? I went to their website and couldn’t find the pattern book.

Our town is so small if you blink while driving through it you will miss us… We are close to the New River Gorge Bridge and Hawks Nest State park… in Fayette Co… :happydancing:

Not at all  I’m did a second one the other day just for the fun of it. I’ve only been knitting since Dec 28, 2006 (literally first time I EVER picked up knitting needles, I didn’t even know they came in different sizes for different yarn) and I finished the hat in 2 hours while watching tv.

Just read through the pattern and take it one section at a time.

cast on and join
ribbing
change color (easy-peasy)
“make nubbie” (if you can make a knit stitch and bind off a stitch, you can do this!)
add markers
k2 together
then magic loop or DPNs for when it gets too small on the top of the hat (Amy’s videos!!! are EXCELLENT for this)

The only thing I had a problem with was making a pompom. I gave up after 2 miserable attempts and wound up spinning funfur around my fingers and fastening it in to a ball

HTH :muah:
