Shandeh is a Bernat Blogger Now!

Thanks Karen. :muah: I’m not offended at all. Any encouragement is appreciated in the weight area. My pounds started coming on when I had my third child. I was able to lose all the baby weight after my other two, but after my third, I never lost a pound. In fact, I started GAINING. When I went to the hospital to deliver him, I weighed 175 pounds. Now, I weigh 230. (After my first child, I lost down to 125. After my second child, I lost down to 135.) I keep wondering if I would have never gained if I never had the third child. :wall:

Anyway, I’ll look at that website to make some plans for my food.

I have a friend at church who is a nutrition expert, and she tried to take me under her wing once. I’m still her friend, but I couldn’t eat the way she wanted. She wanted me to be a vegetarian, and I just can’t eat that way. I gotta have my meat! :teehee: I did join the spa because of her influence, though.

When the new year comes, I’ll be ready to tackle a better food plan. For now, I’ve just gotta put out food fires between music gigs and church events. Plus, so many of my friends and students give me sweets for Christmas! :help:

Yeah, I go to the doctor about once a month, I think. :? They check my thyroid, liver, anemic condition, etc. all the time. My synthroid has already been increased to 75 mcg.

My anemia has caused some weight problems for me too. I have to eat to keep up my energy, or I just fade away. I think I need to go to a fat farm. :frowning:

I’m at 75 mcg too! Synthroid Sisters! :teehee:

I’m not sure that site will be helpful if you’re not actually doing the WW thing, only because you need to know what you’re aiming for (at your weight, you’d be allocated more points per day, then reduce them as you lost) and how to calculate the points in what you eat. Some websites do have the arcane formula - http://www.healthyweightforum.org/eng/articles/weight_watchers_points/ (this site has opinions on pros and cons of the system) - but I find it much easier to use the WW calculator (you can find them on eBay, actually). But if at some point you decide you want to pursue it, ask me or ask around - there are a bunch of us I know of on KH who are doing WW.

OK, really stopping now! :muah:

:teehee: …famous last words.

Thanks! It’s amazing isn’t it ~ you think that you’re making good food choices, but after joining Weight Watchers and really making a conscious effort to keep track and journal all that I eat, boy, I was amazed! Once you start reading labels and keep track of everything, you can see how easy it is to really eat too much ~ in the sense of calories and fat. Weight Watchers is so great because it’s not a diet ~ it really is a change of lifestyle. You have to really be willing to change the way you eat and look at food. There is no quick fix. Even if you can’t get out and exercise, counting points is the way to go. I had foot surgery three months ago and hadn’t been able to walk like I was ~ I am good enough now that I can and I plan to start again this coming week. I missed it!

I’ve had my say of the matter too! No more!

Just to put my two cents in that nobody asked for.
I have been doing WW for 2years. If you like meat and potatoes and stick to your rib kinds of food try WW CORE…!!It is a great plan if you are sick and tired of counting points…!!
Just a thought (because I weigh in tomorrow)!!

Woo Hoo! Lots of options for New Years in my blog! :happydance:

Marvin and I had fun tonight at the church staff dinner at Kabuto’s Japanese Restaurant. I had never eaten Japanese before, so it was a whole new experience for me. The chef knew that I was a newbie, so he served me a tiny plate of fire! Everyone laughed at that. I took a few photos with my little Sony Clie camera. Our party filled two full tables, so we used two chefs, standing back to back.

I had hibachi steak, and it was yummy. I was only able to eat half of it, so I brought the rest of it home in a take-out box. Marvin can have it for lunch today.

I’ll be leaving the house at about noon so I can go get everything set up for my student’s piano recital. Only a few of my students can come, but I still want to make it special for them. Tonight, I filled Christmas gift mugs for them. I even made little Life Saver bell toys with some yarn on top. Marvin smiled when he saw them, and said they look like they came from a Life Savers tree! I had one bell left over, so I gave it to Marvin. (I heard him ring it about 6 times. He’s such a cutie!)

(I’ll take photos of the mugs and Life Saver toys tomorrow at the recital. I’ve already packed them in my car trunk.)

A friend of mine will be singing at the end of the piano recital. She’ll be performing “We’re Walking in the Air” from “The Snowman”. I’m so happy to be performing that song with her (I’ll be doing the piano accompaniment). It’s one of my favorites!

Looks like you had fun!!! I love those Japanese places, there’s 2 about an hour north of me. We go abou twice a year.

The first time I heard We’re Walking in the Air was as performed by Celtic Women. I was mesmerized. Recently I heard it on the radio sung by Elaine Paige, but I’ll always think it should be sung by an 11 year old treble

sigh

Ooh, the Japanese restaraunt outing looks fun!! I love watching them work–and then there’s the food! :inlove:

Your prizes for your students sound so cute!!

What fun, Sandy! I want to see the bells!

(A new Japanese steak house has opened in Algonquin… do they, um, have other things besides steak…? :shifty: We slowed down as we passed it yesterday but couldn’t see anything in the windows, no menus or anything, and ended up going to our regular Chinese takeout place…)

I’m glad you had such a great time Sandy! :cheering: I LOVE Japanese food. There’s quite a selection of it here in So. Cal. I ate sushi for the first time last year. It was really good! It was nothing like what I was expecting ~ you know, slimey or something! It was delicious. Yellow tail is my favorite! It is so buttery smooth and delicious. And then there’s the teriyaki ~ YUM! My favorite restaurant is called “Buko” and it’s about six miles away down in Glendale. Now I have a craving for Japanese food! I’ll have to get back there soon!

Have a wonderful day today. It’s a dark and dreary morning here. We’re supposed to get rain today and tonight ~ we need it. We’ve had hardly any. It’s only going to be in the mid 50s today, which is cold for us!

My favorites are the maki (rolls). I went through a stage where I was having eel maki every single time… mmmmmmmmm… (my stomach has started rebelling at salmon :pout: so I do have to be careful…). I also used to love nabeyaki udon, but I can’t eat the tempura shrimp in it anymore… also :pout:

The japanese restaurant was VERY fun. I just loved watching the chefs in action. Our chef was a hoot. He had a dry sense of humor, wouldn’t ever crack a smile, but said the funniest things. One time, he started spinning an egg, and said “Egg Roll”, then he started flipping it up and down on his big metal spatula, and popped it up into his hat! It didn’t break either! We were clapping and laughing the whole time. Next, he spun the egg again, flipped it up and down again, then popped it up high, turned his spatula sideways, and the egg landed on the edge of the spatula, then split in half. It was cool.

I agree - a boy soprano is the perfect voice for that piece. Luckily for me, the lady who sang it today has a “choir boy” sound naturally. I also used her a couple years ago to sing the opening solo for “All is Well”. Just right.

Your wish is my command. See photos below!

I had a VERY small turnout for the recital. Most of my students are out of town this week. I guess I’ll have to schedule it earlier in the month next year. Including parents, and siblings, we had a small crowd of about 15 people. Not too bad for a Christmas recital. They all did an excellent job, and my friend sang beautifully.

Everyone was happy and relaxed, so I’d say it was a success. I’m worn out now, of course. So, I’m looking forward to knitting and relaxing the rest of the day.

Tomorrow morning is the choir musical. I’ll be SO glad when that is over.

Just wanted to give another  for WeightWatchers … I’m a Gold Member :happydance: I don’t follow it that much anymore (since I reached goal) but I still keep the principles in mind … It’s a great plan and I was never hungry …

Those treat mugs are so cute!! And I love the lifesaver bells! I hope you sang “Jingle Bells” and had everyone ring their lifesavers! :teehee:

Ah man! What a great idea, Angelia! I can’t believe I didn’t think of that!

Great photos, Sandy! (I especially like the one of you and the kids!)

Wow, you have been busy since the last time I visited your blog.

I love japanese food, looks like you had a good time, I’m glad.

The christmas mugs and lifesaver bells are such a great idea. That would be good for all the kids in my family for Christmas, or for gifts when I have Christmas for the whole family and I don’t buy larger gifts.

Love the pictures, thanks for sharing.
