I received Tiny Dancer in the mail today and the lovely yarn along with it! Thanks so much!
I also have Lollipop in my possession. Both of these project will have to wait until this oppressive heat and humidity subside. We do not have AC in our home, and I cannot work on blankets in the hot weather! I know you all understand!
i so feel you pain MGM, my bedroom is the hottest in the house and i can’t use my AC because it makes half the house lose power. i live in a really old house and there’s a lot of stuff that can’t be easily moved on one circuit.
Well, now, don’t feel too sorry for me! My sewing room is in the basement which stays pretty cool on its own, plus we have a dehumidifier down here. I bring the laptop down and set it up so I can work on my website, and I have all my ‘stuff’ and other ongoing projects down here which you can see on my website. But where I do my relaxing knitting, which is what the oddball blankets are for me, is up in the family room and much too warm to have a blanket sitting on my lap! We do live on top of a hill though, and we have lots of windows and ceiling fans, so the evenings tend to be more comfortable. Just not comfortable enough to have a pile of yarn on my lap!
This too shall pass, and soon enough we will all be begging for heavy afghans well underway to keep us warm!
Bad news! In a fit of enthusiasm (and also in an effort to finish early so my daughter can have a little extra time on her part of it) I started on it. I was using a Baby Bruswick yarn, and it turned out to be way too thin. (The gauge on the band is 32 sts/4" on #3 needles.) I did four rows of this pattern and it looked like lace. I already frogged it & will try again tomorrow.
I received this PM from Shandeh, the originator of the Oddball Blankets Project, who gave me permission to share it with the group. The Thank You note is about a worsted weight blanket called Dogwood. It was knit by gmmarton, missyjoon, robkat317, knitterluvspurls, bobi1218 and knittinginhudson.
Thank you message from blanket recipient
Hi Gail!
We just got this message in the moderator’s forum email box. Thought you would like to see it. Feel free to share the message with your group. Shandeh
Dear Gail M., Melissa K., Kathy A., Robin P., Robyn P., and Brenda L.:
My two month old daughter just spent three days at the PICU at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, CT. It was a very frightening time for me and my husband. We are happy to report that she is home and doing well.
What a nice and beautiful surprise to have a home made worsted weight blank delivered to us! It really lifted my spirits to see such a beautiful piece in such a drab and sterile hospital room. I can’t wait to tell my daughter the story of how the beautiful blanket came to be hers. It currently adorns the crib in her room at home.
I just wanted to formally thank you for the wonderful work you do. It was greatly appreciated by these nervous parents!

It is so nice to really see that we are making a difference with our Oddball Baby Blankets, one family at a time.
Congratulations, all!
You folks Rock!! :yay: :yay: :cheering: :cheering: :woohoo:
What do you think? Is it OK? I expected it to be denser from that shot and also this one and this one. I know we need to avoid lace-ish stuff for these blankets?
Bah. I took a closer look at what I’d done and couldn’t see where the pattern was coming out at all. It turned out I was knitting it wrong! For the Left Twist I was putting the needle into the back of the second stitch from the front instead of from the back. I think that’s the root of the problem. That’s the second frog… maybe I should just put in a lifeline for the next try!
Sugarmagknowya has graciously offered to start a new worsted weight baby blanket for us. Sunflowers will be knit in shades of yellows, greens, and browns.
If you are interested, let me know!

I have finally begun my section on Tiny Dancer! The weather is just right for having a little blankie sitting on my lap now. Thank goodness! Luckily I had yarn to use for that one in my stash, thanks to the generosity of all you lovely people who send yarn gifts along with the blankets.
I did something to my knee over the weekend and am pretty much out of commission for a while. I sit in my recliner with a pillow under it and an ice pack over it, either knitting or crocheting or poking around on my laptop. Sounds like a nice way to spend the day, until that’s ALL you can do! :nails: Anyway, I guess that means I should be able to finish this one up pretty quickly. Crossed Fingers
I’m doing a pretty pink in Farrow Rib, then bordering it in yellow. Should be pretty when finished…what am I saying? It already IS pretty!
Anyway, just thought I’d let you know I’m working on it! The worsted blanket I have will require a trip to the store for yarn, so I’ll just wait until I finish this one and see how mobile I am. My husband just might have to take me yarn shopping! Oh my!
Thanks for the post, MGM. However, as much as you are finding the time for knitting (and a little crochet, no doubt), I’m so sorry to hear that you are confined right now. Please know that I am sending you healing thoughts for a speedy recovery.
Sorry for the prolonged absence. The DK weight blog and Completed Blanket Blog have finally been updated! Please let me know if I’ve missed anything.
Thanks again to gmmarton, and all of you, for picking up the slack in my absence. After this weekend’s travels, things should slow down a bit (fingers crossed).
