Northampton-pics and yarn porn --MORE PICS & a video!

I hope next summer (August) when my son and I visit Mass (the Cape. but a 2-3 hour drive is much better thana 46 hour drive from Oregon

Femmy, August sounds like a fine month to me! Maybe we should meet at your Cape Cod house, though. :eyebrow:

What Fun!!! I was just thinking about you guys and your get together earlier today! I’m so glad to see pictures!!

Can’t wait to meet you next weekend, Amy!!

I didn’t know that store was in Northhampton! Dang - I have relatives up in that part of the state, and they never TOLD me! (I live in eastern MA, btw).

Looks like you all had a stellar time!

Aside to Ingrid: I must knit that sweater. I may not be capable of it today, or tomorrow (I can do the color switches, just not the necklines yet), but I must have a sweater like that in my collection - maybe I can be ready for something like this in time for the winter project in Hildy’s KAL. Where did the pattern come from, and what yarn do you recommend?

Your outing reminds me of another nirvana of fiber a bit further north, in Bath, Maine. Halcyon Yarn is the place. If you ever find yourself on holiday on the coast of Maine, take the trip - it’s only an hour or so north of Portland. Halcyon doesn’t even begin to cover the joy and luxury contained in the yarns they carry. (They have a website, too.) I tend to be better behaved shopping online than when I’m actually in the store. I think it’s because I can’t actually touch the yarn. That is what usually kills me.

In person, yarn speaks…I swear.

THANK you! I showed your comment to my husband. He never believed me about that. It does.

You mean the sweater I’m wearing? It’s a pattern from the book Sweaters from Camp. I used the yarn that was used for all the sweaters in the book–someday I’d like to make them all. I’m up to two. It’s Jamieson & Smith 2-ply jumper weight–very thin, kinda rough–but the COLORS are to die for. www.schoolhousepress.com has the book and the yarn. It’s knit in the round up to the neck (using steeks) and then after the steeks are cut, you knit the sleeves right onto the body. No seaming at all!

I have to agree about the yarn in person thing. I never in a million years would have ordered the hand dyed stuff on line. Too expensive. But feeling it made me HAVE to have it. I bought two there and then was so taken with it, I ordered a third just to make sure I’d have enough for a sweater.

Oooh- you are making me so jealous! But if I am lucky I will be able to get to that store before too long. (yes, becuase I definitely need more yarn, lol). I pass by Bath, Maine from time to time, too, so I will have to try Halcyon, too! Thanks! (But Shhh- don’t tell my husband!)

OK, that cat just scared the bejeez outta me LOL… I wasn’t expecting it!! On a second glance it’s kinda cute, tho - and no vaccuuming
Have you made him/her a kitty sweater yet??

I am going to the summer get-together… I will make it my birthday present if I have to!!

Welcome! Your kitty does look a little freaking in your avatar, but I’ve heard they are very sweet. Do you have allergies?

Just to warn you, Ingrid’s sweater is knit in a VERY fine gauge. What is it Ingrid, like 8 sts/inch? That’s something like 80 stitches per square inch. That’s a lot of knitting, and of course it’s all in intricate color pattern!

I don’t think I could do that sweater. Not that I wouldn’t enjoy it, it’s just that I would die of heart failure if it got a stain on it.

It WAS gorgeous though, a real masterpiece, absolutely STUNNING Ingrid. :inlove:

 Thanks! Yes, it’s about 7-8 st per inch. I think I calculated close to 100,000 stitches. It’s obviously a doable sweater–no special tricks are involved. Just willingness to put a lot of stitches into one project.

He’s very sweet and as loyal as a dog- follows me everywhere! DH has allergies, poor guy :frowning:

:inlove: That store looks AMAZING, and what a fun get-together! I can’t wait to meet so many of you at the IL get-together  ! However, the yarn store we will be meeting at may be about the size of one of the bathrooms in that yarn store  !!

I can’t get over how nice everyone seems to be on this forum, and how many people have met in person. You definately don’t see that on other sites!

All your yarn looks so yummy!! And Jeremy looks so, um, mature. Yeah. For some reason I always want to picture Jeremy as some young kid. A mature knitter. Like some of us  Thanks for sharing your adventure and it shows that you really had a good time (and Ingrid you look nothing like your avatar!) :roflhard:

Yes, Amy passed on your message. Wish you could have been there in person! I will say that there was no drinking, puking or pajamas at our get together! ;)
:roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard: Then what fun could you have possibly had???

Kiddding of course…looks like a FANTASTIC time.

I shaved for the occasion! Might make a little something from the fleece. :rofling: Jeremy is a gracious, mature lawyer. It was so refreshing to see him unabashedly knitting and discussing techniques.

WE WUV JEREMY!

We are lucky to have SO MANY truly NICE guys here at KH!!

:cheering: :cheering: :cheering:

:cheering: :roflhard:     :balloons:
