NEW at KnitPicks! CITY TWEED!

Knit Picks’ CITY TWEED makes me want to knit another Central Park Hoodie!

I love donegal tweeds, but they tend to be itchy!

KnitPicks CITY TWEED heavy worsted is 55% Merino wool, 25% superfine alpaca, 20% Donegal tweed. And, 164 generous yards!!! In 14 diverse colors!

I’m in mad love with LEMON CURD! So hard to find good yellows. I’ve been searching for an adult yellow ever since the Seinfeld episode when Elaine was wearing a fabulous yellow cabled sweater at the restaurant!

KnitPicks CITY TWEED is also available in a dk weight!
123 yards per skein, and 14 diverse colors!

The color cards for each are 80605 (worsted colors) and 80604 (dk colors) but you have to call them to get the color cards. Their website isn’t displaying the color cards yet. I purchased 12 sk of Snowshoeplus the two color cards via telephone a minute ago.

I’m anxiously waiting to “see” Lemon Curd and Tabby when the color cards get here! Wouldn’t the 3 colors make a divine blanket?
Or tri-color sweater?

I can visualize a cardigan in the heavy worsted, and a matching
pullover or tank in the dk! Oh, don’t get me started!

I’m supposed to be on the 2009 Stash Train, with no stops for food! :eyes: Well, I have some REWARD yarn coming to me! (myself allowing myself to get new yarn after using up a bunch of stash!)

Central Park Hoodieneeds 1647 yds for a size 44" finished bust.
That translates to 10.04 skeins of CITY TWEED heavy worsted, 11 skeins to be on the safe side. That translates to a cost of about $80-$88 for an outrageous hooded size 44 jacket!

Another great hoodie, similar to CPH, but better cables ( more interesting, but still considered EZ cables) is from CHIC. By Bonnie M. Burns. It takes 11 sk for the size 46". It has more shape to it. It is wonderful. It is called TWIST. I downloaded this PDF pattern a while back, and the more I think about it, the more I’m interested in it for a KAL! I’m knitting TWIST in Snowshoe and maybe the hoodless version in Lemon Curd! I’ll be ready for September!

"TWIST"cabled cardigan!

Same length as CPH, about 24". Oy! I love it!
The pattern gives specs for both a hooded version,
and a ‘collar only’ version! That’s cool!

Anyone interested in a KAL for the TWIST hooded cardi?
I AM going to make it, and would be happy to help you knit it, too! Just get your yarn together, and your PDF pattern.

This could be a KAL as soon as you like! Even if there is just two of us!

That is beautiful yarn. Gonna have to have some.:muah:

I want to buy some too. I also like the yellow.:knitting:

It’s gorgeous! :inlove: So far I haven’t really found one wool/wool blend that I can stand for any length of time. :gah: But, I’m nothing if not persistent so I’ll have to give it a try sometime. Let us know if you get some and how you like it!

ETA: I bought the Twist pattern last year! I have yet to make it so I’d be game to give it a try if you s tart a KAL although I won’t be able to do it for a few months. I’m just going to start a KAL with my Knit Night group doing a Circumnavigated Cardigan. <–Rav link

Yeah. I just recently got my KnitPicks catalogue and practically drooled all over it. :roflhard: Some of it will be coming over to my house pretty soon…

It looks great, but i think the alpaca part will give it a halo does not exist in other tweeds and it will shed a little. I guess it depends on how you like your tweed to look

It is lovely. I hope someone will get some and report back. I have not always been too happy with knitpicks yarn.

I would LOVE to do a KAL for the Twist hoodie… but alas, I’ve exhausted my yarn fund until at least August :frowning:

I won’t be able to do it for awhile either, but KALs can be done anytime.

Me neither. I bought their “100% merino style” yarn a few years back…before I realized that not all merinos were created alike.

It was not as I expected. I thought the 100% meant it would be super soft. But alas, there are different grades of merino wool.

“Ya gets what ya pays for”, my mother used to say!

I don’t fault Knitpicks in any way. It was a nice yarn, with a super cheap pricetag. I blame my own ‘yarn ignorance’.

I’ll be our guinea pig for this new yarn! Will report my findings!

My first CPH was knit using the signature yarn: Tahki Donegal Tweed. For my DD. It is, even after washing/rinsing in UNICORN products, still slightly scratchy. Such is the character of donegal tweeds.

My second CPH was knit using Debbie Bliss Luxury Donegal Tweed. Ahhhhh. Much nicer! Wool and angora. I think the white rabbit “angora”! See the little itty bitty rabbit hairs? :teehee:

I do not even like tweed. But ArtLady can get me excited about anything  Unfortunately I don’t think any of those colors would look good against my complexion. Maybe the snowshoe?

I think that Twist Cardigan is very nice. The only thing I never really liked about the Central Park Hoodie is that there is no closure.

If that is YOU in the photo, you would look fantastic in the LEMON CURD, a warm orange-yellow! It will be all the rage this coming Fall!

Most CPH’s were buttoned. The knitters just figured out for themselves where they wanted to put their buttonholes.

I installed zippers in my two CPH’S. I wouldn’t want my CPH to be open to the wind, either!

The ‘open look’ was cute, but not useful.

Those look fabulous, artlady! I must find a way to drive across the border and buy yarn. When I order it online, I pay triple for it, cuz of shipping, taxes, the dollar exchange and ‘border-crossing fee’. I made the mistake of ordering $50 worth a few months ago, and paid $156. Shocked, I was.

Holey moley, Woodi! That is totally insane! I am sooo sorry you got BONKED with governmental fees and taxations!

Oy! THAT HURT! You got bonked BAD!

That’s true! I know for dang sure, I’m gonna knit this eventually. I love me some hoodies.

Debbie Bliss’s tweed wool is spun at Kilcar, co Donegal. They also spin their own range of wool which is much cheaper. You can get it here in big hanks, or in balls. Their website doesn’t show the full range though

Very nice stuff! I love this yellow!

So hard to find good ‘adult’ yellows!
Oh, sooo tempting. But, I don’t understand the pricing.
Or if we can even order from far away. If they ship to USA at reasonable pricing, I mean. Oh, this is soooo my yellow!

I figured it out: a pack of 20 balls is $71.04 US with $17.75 shipping. The balls are 50g, but a yardage equivalent was not stated.

:psst: Resized photo for you…

:teehee:

50g is 80 metres, which is 87 yards, and the post is 28 Euros post, or 68 Euro “Interlink” which is I think an independent courier company
so of you bought a pack of twenty 50g balls (1740 yards) and went for the cheapest postage option it would be 82 Euros, and that is around $107 at the minute. Now I think that’s expensive!
Over here some shops also sell it in 200g hanks which are cheaper, and I think that there is someone on Ebay who sells them to the US
( I think karlefr and Ceol-Deas are two ebay sellers who have it).
Kerry Woollen mills also do their own wool, but it’s not tweed, it’s 3 ply aran and it’s E6.28per 200g hank

I ordered some of the white with black specks. Don’t ask me why–I’m totally and completely insane. I’ll let you know if I like it, though. :teehee: Now I’ll have tweed in gray, green, blue, tan, purple, white. . . .
