Ohhhh I want to go to Italy, too!
DD’s and I are going on a LONG road trip. We are going back to South Dakota for my niece’s graduation, to see my dying uncle and friends and then on to the Black Hills. We will leave the afternoon of the 28th and come back by the 7th of June. By the time we make our round trip we will probably total 3500 miles of driving. Now if I could just figure out how to knit and drive at the same time that’d be GREAT :roflhard: DH has to stay at home and work, that’s what happens when you are self employeed. Oh well, at least the girls and I will have a great trip and lots of pics to share when we get back.
That sounds like a fun trip, just you and the girls.
I’m a glutten for punishment. I’ve decided that my niece needs a hand knit blanket from me for graduation. So I have set my goal of knitting 6" per day in the next 10 days I think that I’ve lost my mind :roflhard: Just trying to get it done and washed before we leave on our long…drive. My backup plan is to give her a cross necklace with diamonds if I don’t have the blanket finished in time. However, I really like the necklace and would love to keep it for myself. Now if that’s not motivation, I don’t know what is :teehee: :knitting: :knitting:
That’s a lot of knitting! If you use bulky yarn and large needles it’ll go faster.
Yeah really. 6" a day?! I could never do that. :noway:
I’m using size 15 circs and double strands of I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby. The color is dark Colonial Blue and is soooo pretty and soft. I’m using such a simple pattern that I’m almost embarassed but hey you gotta do what you gotta do. I think that the simplicity of it is what makes it so pretty. At least everyone at work is amazed at how pretty it’s turning out so far. We aren’t getting much home school done these days but that’s one of the nice things about the freedom of home school. You can take those breaks when you feel like it or need to.
Tomorrow I’m going to distribute flyers for Piano Lessons at MDO. So far I have 2 students signed up and 2 possible students. Now I just need 15 more and I can quit my job :woot: Keep your fingers crossed! One of my friends is also going to post my flyer on the homeschool web site that she belongs to. I’m not going to know if this will work out if I don’t give it a try.
Off to switch loads of laundry, unload and load the dishwasher and knit 4 more inches.
I personally like simplicity. Share a photo when you’re done!
Oooh, I hope you get more students!Crossed Fingers
I have 23" done on the blanket. Tonight is the season finale of Ugly Betty so I think that I can get 2 more hours of knitting in today. I already worked on it for 1 hour. I’ll also have a 3 day weekend so that should help. I promise to post a picture as soon as I get it done.
Yay! Way to go on getting piano students.
Since you’re trying to get students, I’d better warn you about the latest scam that’s been going on lately. (I’ve had a couple scammers try to get me with it, and I’ve cut them off quick.)
Here’s what happens: They contact you, and say that they have a child that will be coming to the US for a few months. They want to go ahead and pay for piano lessons for the entire time, so that child doesn’t lose any of what they’ve learned. They write you a check for the entire 3 months…you deposit it…then they quickly ask for a refund, because the child is not coming after all. Then the check bounces. So, you’re out TWICE!! Really rotten scoundrels.
Here’s how I fight it: I tell them that I only accept payments for EACH LESSON as it is taught. No one pays in advance…I don’t want to deal with the bookkeeping. And I never hear from them again. If it is a REAL student, the person agrees and starts lessons with me.
Thanks for the info, Sandy. I just can’t believe the lengths that some people will go to these days. I’m excited about starting lessons. I pray that I get some more students so that I can quit my job. DH is fully supportive of me which is a huge blessing. I’m looking forward to getting more involved with the home school group here in our area next school year. They have co-ops on Friday’s and field trips that we could take part in. My girls deserve that extra attention while they are ours to tend and nurture.
Well, the blanket is coming along very fast. I have 41" done as of tonight. My MIL was very impressed with how pretty it is when we stopped over there tonight. I had it with me because I never leave the house without my knitting and I’m trying to get it done as fast as possible. I’ve never knit anything this fast in my entire life! I think that tomorrow I’ll go return the diamond necklace that I bought as a back up gift. I could use the money for our trip.
I hope that everyone has a safe and great holiday weekend.
Ok Ladies, here is the finished product of my intense knitting week. Larua’s Blanket!!! I used “I Love This Yarn” from Hobby Lobby in Dk. Colonial Blue. It is supre soft! It is not quit big enough for a queen size bed but is a nice size to cuddle up with. I think that the final size was 54" x 50" I can’t wait to wrap it up and give it to her.
Nice, I like that!! :yay:
Great work! :cheering:
Thanks! I’m so glad that it’s finished. I’ll try to post some pictures when we get back of my niece with her new blanket. DD’s and I started to pack our suit cases today. We are sooooo excited, we can hardly wait.
Well, we’re off tomorrow around lunch time. Our marathon driving trip to SD and the Black Hills :woohoo: :woot: I can’t wait to get out of here and have a real vacation. We are taking the lap top so if I get internet access from the motel room I’ll try to log and and let you know how things are going. If I don’t get a chance to do that I’ll have lots to tell all of you once we return home in Texas. Have a great week!
Have a wonderful, safe trip!!
Very, very pretty! Are you able to share the pattern? I’ve never knitted a blanket before. (Crocheted countless blankets over the years, but too chicken to try a knitted one.)
P.S. I Love That Yarn too!
Be safe! …and have a wonderful time!!!
We have safely arrived in Rapid City, SD :woot: :yay: It was a very long drive but worth it. Tomorrow we are going to Mt. Rushmore, Keystone and maybe Hill City.
As for the blanket pattern it was just 10 rows of knit stitch for the border; then K 10 Purl across to the last 10 sts and then K 10; K next row; contine for however many inches you want and then do a few rows of plain knit stitch; then go back to the k10, purl across to last 10 sts and knit 10… I hope that this makes sense. It was very simple and fast to knit up.
I have a DD who is bugging me to get off the internet so that she can get on. Poor thing hasn’t had internet access for 5 day now :teehee:
