The attachment is what I did. I found knitting backwards was better than turning. I’ve yet to do anything else. I’ve played with it but ended up frogging.
For more input you might want to start a thread just for the topic.
If you’re really want to learn to knit Continental, try learning crochet first. You’ll be doing something different and learning to hold the yarn for crochet will set you up for knitting Continental. I just spent too much time trying yet again to knit English. I don’t know how anyone does it. I’ll keep trying. It seems to me it requires much more coordination and dexterity. I wouldn’t care so much to learn how to do it except I have a kit for two color knitting and have to learn a way to use two yarns. :gah:
it’s a great technique for entrelac and stockinette, where you don’t have to keep flipping the work over (and you get to avoid purling), you just knit a row, and then do the backwards-knit movement so you’re seeing the right side of the work the whole time. videos and better explanations at:
i did too. it’s still not my favorite, but with a lot of practice, it finally ‘clicked’ for me and now it’s slower, but automatic. still, backwards knitting is a good thing to know for some items. i’ve seen people all over the web talking about it, USing it, but seems to work better for some projects (stockinette, some ribbings, and entrelac) than others.
Alright, maybe that will give me some motivation. I don’t HATE it, but I would definitely pick the knit stitch over it any day. The problem is that I don’t really like the look of garter stitch where I LOVE the look of stockinette stitch.
It’s not so much that I hate purling, I really don’t. Sometimes turning my work is such a pain. With two at a time sox it’s much easier for me to turn the heel without turning both sox every row and when I use a different color for the heel it helps avoid so much tangling. What I don’t like about going backwards is that I end up doing English style backwards, like an English knitter knitting left handed. That extra movement of wrapping the yarn seems so unnecessary - I’m a picker and I just grab the yarn with the needle so it’s more like crochet.
"Yeah that’s going to be a problem. It’s gonna be a problem for them. This a clear violation of your rights as a consumer. It’s an infringement on your constitutional rights. It’s outrageous, egregious, preposterous. "
I love it , hijack away ladies I love the different conversations and creative thoughts. So no I don’t mind at all. Please feel free to come anytime and chat , doesn’t always have to be about knitting either.
X, we have something in common, I hate purling too. But I like the Stockinette look  Thanks so much for posting the links . I’ll be checking them out.
