I should prolly buy ONE SKEIN or two…could use them for a scarf or something, before launching into a TWIST cardigan with 10 skeins of the wrong color!
I have here in my hot little hand a ball of yellow Kilcarra Donegal Tweed in what I believe is their DK weight. (Donegal Yarns, which used to be Kilcarra Yarns, makes yarn for both Tahki and Debbie Bliss.) It’s definitely yellow. I bought it yesterday (along with 100 grams of five other colors) to make a hat, and got enough for about three large hats. Want me to send you a bit of it so you can take a look at it? If so, PM me your address, and I’ll send it off tomorrow. xox - z
ETA: sorry, I think it’s actually Aran now I look at the website of the store where I bought it. (Their pic of the colors is definitely off. They’re much more vibrant than in the pics.) I’m currently knitting it on 3.25mm needles.
E2ndXTA: the flecks are darker yellow and green! Oh, and some white.
Hi Global~ Yes! Thanks so much! Aran is what I need!
The yellow looks atrocious on their website, so I’m very happy you have a snippet for me!!! (I messaged you w/ my address.)
Question: their website gives prices with a symbol I don’t understand.
What is this symbol? € 12.00 Is that Euros?
I googled the money converter, and 12.00 Euros is $16.19 USD.
The yarn has 350 yds! If I’m guessingright, and the symbol is Euros:
5 sk is 66.60 Euros ($88.41 USD) and includes shipping, no tax to USA address. Total cost is just 5 cents per yard, whereas I paid 5.7 cents per yard for CITY TWEED w/ shipping and sales tax.
The ‘lime green’ looks EXACTLY like the green Tahki Donegal Tweed I used for my daughter’s Central Park Hoodie!!! I’m sure it’s the very same stuff!

Hi Rach~ Yes! I love the yellow #09008! I will google the yarn and see who has it! Thanks for the tip!

THANKS THANKS THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO WAS ABLE TO HELP! :happydance:
Yes, it’s euros! I bought five very pretty colors that you wouldn’t recognize from the website – the website colors make it all look darker and dirtier than it is in real life. The colors on the mill’s website are a lot closer, although all of the flecks don’t make it onto the sample, so caveat emptor, those may be missing from any photos. There is someone selling it on EBay as well, from a store in Ireland - Commodus also ships to the US quite a bit, plus Commodus will ship it by weight in any quantity they have in stock, so if you want an entire sweater’s worth and they have a cone in stock in that amount, they’ll send you one continuous strand if you want it that way!
The yarn may or may not be still oiled – I suspect it is, knowing this yarn as Debbie Bliss Donegal Tweed. Some people do find it scratchy, although I’m fine with it, especially after washing.
Donegal Yarns does indeed make the Tahki tweed, as well as the Debbie Bliss, so if you’re familiar with those, you’re probably familiar with the line in general.
I always give my tweeds the full spa treatment when I’m blocking! That is to say, I give them a full bath and rinse, using a great product for natural animal fibers! UNICORN FIBER WASH AND RINSE! Oy, you should SEE the dirt it removes from Malabrigo Merino!
This was the dirt it removed from the BACK & 2 FRONTS of Viveca,
a rather short, cropped sweater!
Isn’t that amazing? I knit real quick, and clean, so this is ALL ANIMAL dirt! The resulting ‘white’ was amazing. My yarn was the undyed, natural (cream) Malabrigo. I’ve heard others comment that even the kettle-dyed Malabrigo surrenders a lot of dirt upon washing/rinsing prior to blocking! The dying process prolly removes some dirt, but not all.
This was their rinse water. Yet more dirt surrendered!
Donegal Yarns sells it’s yarns one of two ways: still with the oil from the spinning in it (I believe that’s the stuff for export; I think the trade calls it “hard” when it’s still got the oil in, but could be wrong about that), and washed, so the oil isn’t in it anymore.
Wow – that’s a lot of dirt in the yarn!
I almost never wear clothes directly from retail racks any more…having worked retail, I know how dirty they get!
ArtLady, have I mentioned yet today that I want to be you when I grow up? I hope to someday make something half as gorgeous as allllllllllllll of your FOs.
Globaltraveler’s sample arrived in the mail today!
Oh, I’m IN LOVE! I never ever thought I’d fine the PERFECT YELLOW, but this IS the perfect yellow! Citron Yellow #4897!
I ordered 6 hanks from them just now! WhooHooo!
(350 yds per hank, according to their website information!)
Thanks again for such a generous ‘tidbit’! I’m going to knit myself a little swatch-ette right now! I only imagined a little 3" strand! You were so sweet to send me several yards!
