Some of the reaction to the little halter have me scratching my head… :?? It seems to cover the chest area fine and looks like it would nice and cool. I also don’t see that much more is showing than in this toddler sunsuit.

I don’t mind halter tops in kids, in general, but this particular style seems to draw attention to the breasts (or lack of them) on the baby. My two cents, anyway.

Huh. I’m just not seeing it that way. I think it’s adorable.
I was born in the 70s and we wore stuff like that when we were little girls (my sister and I, that is) so it’s nothing new!
yeah i think the halter is cute and i loved wearing them when i was a kid. let’s talk about teenage girls wearing pants that say “Juicy” on the butt!
aaaaaaaaaanywaysssssss…i love the tea cosy. if i had a reason for it i would certainly consider making one…maybe i could make it similarly in a hat!
:rofling:
Remember these?
Don’t know the kid so I covered her face. I had a tube top when I was little. That thing was falling a lot because of the lack of big girl boobage. The difference here (in my opinion ) is mindset. Bad people looking at kids the wrong way has everyone running scared and looking at everything in a different light. (not always a bad thing! just my opinion here) So a shirt like this will look cute on kids for some and look the other way for some people. Just a matter of perspective.
The skirt is hideous - I can’t imagine it looking good on anyone. Seriously, find me a pic of someone who’s able to rock this thing and not look like she’s wearing a marshmallow.
Ick.
The halter top is cute…I can see where folks are put off by it, though. I don’t hooch out my 1 year old. You won’t see her in tube tops or anything with spaghetti-type straps. I just think little girls should dress like little girls. I’d let her wear this, though…just maybe with a pair of pants vice shorts so she’s a bit more covered up. Does that make sense?
I’m not a tea cozy kinda gal, so no opinion there.
I think that baby top is adorable! I don’t think my two boys would feel the same way, though.
Babies are different than toddlers. I’d make that top for my 6-month-old, but not my 6-year-old. There are sexual predators and they do look at little girls and little boys, but infants are not usually the victims of sex crimes, it’s more preschoolers and early elementary. So I’d be way more careful with how I dress my older young children.
The top is definitely on the borderline.
And knitty seems to be down at the moment, or I would go re-read the skirt pattern for accessory notes. The skirt itself I thought was hideous. I’ve been looking for a cute knit skirt pattern–I guess I have to keep looking.
I am in total agreement. It really startled me to see it. I don’t think that anyone meant anything by it, but to put an infant in clothing that is meant to be alluring is bad juju.
that really bothers me as well. as do tube tops on anyone who isnt sexually mature.
i am not by any means a prude person, but children wearing suggestive or provocative clothing bothers me. i don;t know if its because i was molested that my alarm bells ring harder than others, but i think putting clothing on children that is meant to trigger sexual thought creeps me out. just my perspective.
The site is completely unavailable now.

that’s whatcha all get for bein’ mean about the skirt!
I can’t get on the site either so I can’t share my opinion on either of the items. I’ll try again later to see what all the talk is about. :XX:
The site is still down. Whew, knitty must have gotten word about this post! I can’t wait to see these things that have caused such mixed reactions!
I wonder if the controversy is widespread enough for them to remove it? My feeling is that if something doesn’t look “right” to me, I just won’t knit it. Re: the “juicy pants”… I think that’s ridiculous and asking for trouble, hence I will not let my (non-existant) children wear them… but if other people want to let their kids, hey whatever, not my issue.
something tells me that as slow as it was loading yesterday and as long as it has been down they have probably had a massive failure of some of their equipment. I don’t know a LOT about webstuff but i have found that it usually doesn’t take TOOO long to take something off a site so i would have to think it was some other issue. just my guess though. shrug
it’s baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack
Argghghhh. The skirt looks like the bottom half of the bloomers we used to have to wear in gym. I don’t know many woman who would want ballooning knitted fabric enhancing their thighs… Kinda scary! samm
I don’t like that skirt…
Ohh but that tea pot cozy is just gorgeous
