Ingrid has come in out of the yard

I’ve never gotten a ticket either…also never been pulled over. :shifty:

I was pulled over twice…once I got a written warning, once the ticket.

I was leaving the Palisades mall, and the highway I take out of there had a red-arrow light. Apparently, this means the same as a “No Turn on Red” sign. I didn’t know this. Luckily he didn’t give me a ticket for “blowing” the red light.

I’ve been pulled over–once because I didn’t have my headlights on–I had gotten the car 10 miles previously and didn’t know I only had the parking lights on; once for a headlight out; once for going 62 in a 40. I don’t know why I didn’t get a ticket on that last one, but I was relieved.

I once almost got beat up in the Palisades Mall parking lot for taking a space that someone else was waiting for.:out:I moved.

People there are so :!!!: crazy. I’m soooo glad I don’t work there any more. And I have to go there tonight. :!!!: :pout:

My son and his girlfriend came down for the long weekend and we went to the Bronx Zoo on Sunday. Luckily, I bought tickets on line and we were able to pass by the mile-long line to get in. Whew! I’ve never seen it that busy. The zoo is big enough, though, that it didn’t feel all that crowded.

We didn’t get to see everything, but did make a point to see their tigers and gorillas. I plan on going down on some non busy day and just sitting in front of the gorillas all day. They were fantastic. The huge male sat with his back to the glass and periodically stood up and turned around as if for a photo op. The babies looked like homely, hairy human toddlers running around, playing with sticks. The youngsters played with the babies in a loving, teasing way–all under the watchful eye of mommy.

The place was packed and frightfully hot, but Jacob and I stayed glued in one spot at the glass for about a half hour. At one point I took a picture of one of the gorillas looking at us, but my flash was on. I was mad until I saw the picture that I inadvertently took. It shows Jake’s reflection and his pure delight at seeing the gorilla so close. It’s not often you get to see that kind of amazement on his face. He’s too cool for that now that he’s on his way to 10, you know.

Here are a few pictures. I got some video of the babies playing, and that took up most of my camera’s memory; plus just watching them with my own eyes was much more fun than through a camera.

How fun! Those are great shots, Ingrid. I just love all the apes, the cats and the monkeys best!

It’s been so long since I posted to your blog, Ingrid, but I can see why you want one!

Tag you’re it:happydance:

Grit, I am a nut for gorilla’s . I take it, you like them too? I have always had a wish to one day meet Koko. My grown kids still laugh about how I use to sit for hours and watch our local Gorilla here in the zoo. I cried when they moved him to another zoo.

I loooove gorillas! One day this summer, I swear I’m going to get down to the zoo when it opens, bring some knitting, and sit and watch them all day long. They have such dignity. The mamas kept close eyes on they’re babies while they played; the ‘teenager’ played gently but boisterously with the babies, and the silverback kept close eye on them all. Their exhibit at the zoo is just wonderful for them, too. The people are in the hot, stinky part–the animals are free to do what they do best.

I missed being tagged again. Let’s see. . .

 1. I have freckles.
 2. I used to be a good double-dutch jumper. Not anymore.
 3. I’m pretty good with crossword puzzles.
 4. I’ve never tried sushi.
 5. I probably won’t.
 6. I’ve never lost my keys.
 7. I’m too lazy to pass this on.:shifty:

Since I’m here, on the knitting front—I got some Debbie Bliss Merino Silk from Little Knits on sale and it has to be the softest yarn I’ve ever felt. It’s like spun air. I don’t know what I’m going to make with it, but it will be something that is close to the skin.

I’m in the middle of a beeeutiful blanket made with Noro Silk Garden–I think it’s going to be my new bedspread when I’m done.

Three more days of school-with-kids left :woohoo:then I’m off for the summer after 8 days of sitting around school-without-kids. Lots of knitting and lots of lunch. I can’t wait.

My grandson’s father let him dye his hair bright green. The kid’s in third grade ferpetessake!!:hair:He looks ridiculous, but I didn’t let Jacob know that. I just shrugged and said, “It’s hair.” I don’t know what his dad was thinking.:grrr:I will ask next time I see him, though–no doubt about that!

Ryan lost his first tooth yesterday. :biting: He was thrilled.

I can see green hair for St. Patrick’s Day or something, but randomly? Huh. I think I’m too old to understand the need for crazy hair. :teehee:

Gorillas are great! We have a neat enclosure at the SD Zoo, too.

I don’t really like it when people dye their hair crazy colors. Never had, really.

Enjoy your summer, Ingrid!

Ingrid, the hair will fade and grow out. And it’s summer, so he isn’t in school wearing it. Did he dye it with KoolAid? at least he didn’t get get something pierced.

I love watching the gorillas, too! They each have a different personality.

His hair was bleached and then dyed. It will grow out soon, but he is still in school. It wouldn’t be so bad if it was already vacation. I just can’t help but wonder what his dad will let him do next. Can he just NOT say no? Does he really think it’s cool to have green hair in third grade? If he’s allowed to do this stuff now, what will be left?

I’m used to seeing bizarre hair since I work with teenagers, but they’re a whole other species.:rofling:

And btw–he got his ear pierced thanks to his dad last year. Maybe he’d like a nice tatoo?

 Wow. I think he’s doing stuff way too young. I think a lot of parents can’t say no. It’s sad.

sorry. I’d have a problem with that level of non-parenting as well.

You’ve never had sushi? That’s crazy talk. see, I just picked the wrong topic yesterday. :shifty:

I read about these finger-painting gorillas in the Boston Metro on Friday, and thought of you! :teehee:

Hi Ingy!!! :waving:

It’s been FOREVER since I was in your blog!! Can I come watch the gorillas w/ you? I love them, too. And I love smart parrots, like Alex. And dolphins. I’m fascinated by the animals that show their intelligence so clearly. Oh, and have you heard of bonobos?

And I’m sad for your green-haired grandson. :frowning: His Daddy is so busy trying to be his “pal,” that he’s not bothering to give him what he really needs. :frowning: Let him have it the next time you see him!! :biting:

Bonobos. :roflhard:

Why is that funny? :pout:
