How to Weave in Ends

I have knit a shawl in garter stitch and am ready to weave in the ends. The shawl has horizontal stripes in a contrasting color. The basic pattern is K3, yarn over, K almost to the end, yarn over, K3, so it has a “border” of K3 on each side. I want to weave in the ends but only have 3 knit stitches to work with on the border ( to weave in the ends ) before I reach the hole made by the yarn over.

Can/Should I weave in the yarn ends going vertically? If so, does anyone know how to do that so it’s as invisible as possible, please? Or is there another way to weave in the ends carrying the yarn across the yarn over hole and make the weave invisible?

Many thanks for any help anyone could offer. I’ve scoured online for answers but come up with nothing.

When I knit shawls I use the weavin stephen method https://youtu.be/Fz292NAjH2M

I do like to weave in ends as I go but sometimes I’m too busy knitting the pattern. These are some ways to weave in after the knitting is finished.

Here’s a way to weave in vertically after the knitting is finished.

And here is a more horizontal weave in.

I love the weavin’ Stephen (and lots of other people do it, of course, though he’s managed to coin the phrase!) too, but it doesn’t really work if there are lacy holes to bypass; Salmonmac always has such helpful suggestions, and vertical works pretty well when horizontal doesn’t.
