Has anyone made the Flattering Jacket Lion Brand Homespun?

Alright, I figured out that I did make the mistake of starting my ‘Shape Neck Row’ on the wrong side and had to frog it all out.

:hair: I am also finding that it is absolutely impossible to decrease in seed st and then be able to continue in seed.

One more thing , were it says to do the dec every 6th row 13 times , does this mean , I work even for 5 rows then dec on the 6th row ?

Yes, every 6th row, is dec, work 5 rows, dec on the 6th.

cardigan pattern tells me to reverse shaping for knitting left front; does that mean everywhere it says Next Row (WS) then I do it as RS and every WS is done on RS?

I finished the right front and to be honest ,it looks like it could be used on either side. For this pattern ,why can’t I just knit the right front side again (for the left front)

Is there shaping for the armholes and neck edge? Because they’d be on the other side for the L front. But yeah, to reverse, if you BO at the beginning of the RS row, you BO on the beg of the WS row. Decreases can still be done on the RS row, but at the end of it instead of at the beg.

Yes, there is shaping for the armhole and neck.

Like I said when I finished the right front panel, I laid the back and right front panel out with the right front panel on top of the back panel. I then turned the right front panel over and laid it on to the left side and it looks like it mirrors it’s self. So whats to keep me from just knitting the right panel again (for the left side)?

I’m not understanding what the difference is in the two front panels

Are you making the pockets? That would be the difference, if you’re doing them. If they don’t appear to be any different, then sure, you can just make two alike and call one the R and one the L.

Yes I am making the pockets. I thought maybe I was missing something and that if I just followed the pattern for just making another right front panel, might mess it up.

Thanks for your help Sue

I figured out that they don’t really mirror each other. The edge of the pocket and collar look different when turned over to the other side.

And I’m not getting how to do the reverse shaping. I started the left side knitting in seed until piece measured 6 inches ending on a WS row. Shape pocket:Next Row (RS) bind off 12sts ,cont in seed to end of row.

I’ve frogged this row out 4 times now, because it doesn’t look like the other front panel when I fold the pocket over to the seam.

What am I doing wrong?:hair:

Yes, the pocket and collar will be different.

So for the R front, you knit until it measures 6" ending with a RS row, then BO 12 sts on the WS and continue to the end of the row.

:woohoo:I am now on the sleeves.

I have two questions on the pattern.

This pattern has been a real challenge for me. I wonder if that’s because I’m still a beginner and the pattern calls for an ‘Intermediate’ knitter. I’ll get to some instructions in this pattern and have to read them over and over trying to make some sense of them. It seems like they don’t go in to detail enough when giving pattern instructions. Is that because if you’re an ‘Intermediate’ knitter you just know what you need to do to achieve what the pattern calls for?

Example,

SLEEVES
With smaller needles, cast on 39 sts loosely. Work in ribbing for 3 inches as follows: Row 1 *K 2, p 1; rep from * across. Rep this row for seed st rib, inc 1 st at end of last row - 40 sts. Change to larger needles. Work in seed st, inc 1 st at each end of every 6th row 11 times [M]; (every 4th row 5 times, every 6th row 8 times [L]; every 4th row 6 times, every 6th row 9 times)[1X] - 62 (66, 70) sts. Work even in seed st until sleeve measures 21 inches from beg (including cuff) or desired length. Bind off loosely.

How do you rib flat doing ‘*K 2, p 1; rep from * across.’ every time I turn the row(working piece flat, not on dpn’s) and keep follow *K 2, p 1; rep from * across on the next row it doesn’t look like ribbing:wall:

But if when I turn the row and do P2,K 1, then I get a ribbing affect. but the pattern doesn’t say to do that.

But then I don’t understand the next sentence that follows ’ Rep this row for seed st rib, inc 1 st at end of last row’ :hair:

I thought maybe I was just suppose to know that this should be done on DPN’S and in the round until I read further down in the ‘Finishing Instruction’ The last sentence reads, ‘Sew sleeve seams’:whoosh: hummmm so the whole sleeve is knitter flat , not in the round?

I’ve made socks and done the ribbing on DPN’S. So when I saw the ‘ribbing instructions’ it didn’t make any sense to me because it didn’t say anything about DPN’S .

Sue , can you help me get this?

Row 1 *K 2, p 1; rep from * across. Rep this row for seed st rib, inc 1 st

It’s a seed stitch rib, not regular ribbing. So you’re probably doing it right. You can knit the sleeve on dpns, but you’ll have to refigure how to get this seed st rib to turn out right.
