GrumpyGramma's Knitting Room

:yay:

:woohoo:

It’s not just a toe, it’s a beautifully done toe! I thought you could do it. I was darned sure you could, in fact. I do hope Grumpy Bear has another name IRL. :teehee:

Don’t tell anyone, but I’m going to do a pair of … uh, I hate to admit it … top down sox. Grandson’s feet are growing so fast I’m afraid the foot won’t fit by the time I get the cuff done. He never really got to wear the ones I made him. I frogged one sock tonight and I’m saving the other for later. I will be able to redo the toe and make the sock longer later, that’s my intent anyhow. I wondered how well I was doing weaving in ends, now I know. Ferreting them out is hard.

Nicely done or otherwise, lets forgo turning our ankles. :roflhard:

Thanks, all! I was really excited. I’m actually on my 3rd toe, I keep frogging it. I’m still not entirely happy with it, but I think I’m just gonna deal with it. I’m striving for perfection, and that’s a bit out of reach I know.

In other news, Jeff (occasionally referred to as Grumpy Bear) GOT A JOB TODAY!!! The first place he applied. We’re just waiting on his drug test results to come back (we know he doesn’t have to worry). :happydance: :woot: :cheering:

Good for you on the sock toe. Learning to accept a few imperfections is important for a lot of us. Your toes won’t care if the sock doesn’t look perfect, nobody will care but you and that’s only if you let yourself obsess about it. This morning my 15-yr. old granddaughter told me that she asked her mom where she bought her Sparkly Pink Sox. I promise you, those sox are not perfect. Daughter is thrilled with them. Remember to ask yourself, could you spot it from the back of a galloping horse?

Momma’s got a new car! We spent weeks perusing craigslist, went to see a couple of cars initially, one an hour plus drive that were you to read the ad you would think it was a completely different car. Another smelled so bad I could scarcely do a test drive (dog smell, lots of hair and then the perfumed floral scent to cover it).

Started looking several times a day to find the ads that just hit CL, and that is how we found the Subaru. I ended up disappointed, feeling I sold myself short in not going for what I really wanted. Well DH was not going to stand for that, claimed the Subaru for himself and we kept looking.

We drove an hour and a half north to view this beauty on Sunday, fortunately had enough cash to make a deposit and drove up the following day with the balance. I had fun negotiating, allowing the owner to come up with reasons to justify a price lower than what he was asking. I also told him he could pull the ad, lo and behold when we returned home he had scrubbed the ad, even before receiving the full funds!

A V-6, 4.0 liter engine, wow can this baby accelerate, 4WD with a tow package. Here she is:

@Claire L  VE your new ride! It looks really good. Beautiful. I’m so glad you found what you wanted. I’m partial to big, red things that have motors and go down the road. :teehee:

@ Lori - Do you ever dk things like these elephants?

Wow, Claire!! That’s awesome!

 The yarn requires joining in a number of places due to a hungry moth, but thanks to Lori and her fabulous joining technique I am on my way. Both implements (swift and winder) and binder clip attach perfectly to this table. Cheers all! :clink:

:happydance: Yippee!!!:happydance:

I love good news!

your setup, but where’s your cuppa? Huh? I have to get a swift. Yup, I just have to.

I’ve a daring experiment planned. I have sock yarn that says hand wash. I’m going to knit a small swatch and put it in the washer with a load of laundry just to see what happens. I can deal with hand wash sox, when I knit for other people it needs to be machine washable. My current pair has about 3" left to go on the top*, rib it, and BO. I have enough of the pink sparkly yarn left to mix with some purple for toes and make another pair for my daughter. I guess they’ll be next. I’m looking for summer sock yarn. There are cotton blend sock yarns available, I just don’t know which to get. I’ve never ordered from the companies that list them for sale. The On Your Toes bamboo yarn I got doesn’t seem like it’s good for sox, to me. It won’t hold its shape well, will be too soft and stretchy; I don’t know what I’m going to make with it.

@ 60 sts per round and 13 rows to the inch, I figure two sox will only need about 4,680 more sts. :zombie: Now I got to thinking how many sts in an entire set of sox, the 6" tops are @ 9,360…enough I don’t want to think about the foot too.

@ Claire: lovely ride you’ve got there congratulations! Are you using the double knot join or a spit join?

@ GG: those elephants are gorgeous! I love the pattern, don’t know why it couldn’t be DK.

I’ve missed chatting with all of you! Have a great weekend! :muah:

Oy! :zombie:

I used the Invisible Braided Join. This is my ‘cake’, weighing in at a hefty 158 grams, and while I was at it, I took a picture of my kitty, ‘Sassy’.

The number of stitches in each row of ‘Pogona’ has increased to somewhere between 500 and 600. I haven’t timed it, but it has to take me at least 20-30 minutes to knit a row.

I think it may be a fingering weight used in the pattern; I wanted a larger shawl so I am using a worsted weight and more yardage than what is called for. Keeping my fingers crossed that it works out.

Acorn Street Shop is having a sale on sock yarn, don’t know if you plan a trip to Seattle in the near term.

I’m with you on the bamboo yarn, I can’t imagine that it would hold it’s shape well at all. Maybe a scarf?

What’s the fiber content on the ‘hand wash’? And a swift, I was sooo fortunate to be gifted this one. I love that I can use it to repurpose a garment; it worked so well for my moth-eaten cowl.

The shot was taken in the evening, hence the absence of said ‘cuppa’. We enjoyed ‘S&T’s’ for the first time in ages, and I’m looking forward to watermelon season, can you say mojito, baby

Sheesh Claire! I forgot about that join. Duh! Probably because I can’t do it. :lol:Glad to hear that it works well from someone who used it though.

Oh, didja see that Acorn Street is for sale? Does it come with Marlboro Men, I wonder? LOL

@ Charlottte - I better go buy the winning ticket…Powerball or Mega Millions, gals? LOL

@ Claire - As tempting as that sale looks, I don’t think I’m up for going to Seattle. I’ll look and see just where they are, maybe it would be something I could do if it’s not downtown. There is a yarn store in Puyallup that I’ve been meaning to check out. A friend is moving to Puyallup so that will make it more likely that I actually will. I’m not so hermit-like entirely by choice.
I looked in better light and I think the label on the hand wash yarn says superwash and cashmere so I guess hand wash it is. How long did it take you knit Sassy? :teehee: She’s so pretty.

Sunny and beautiful here today, 58 deg. I have laundry drying on the balcony. I gotta go to the store.

Look what showed up to greet me! It’s a volunteer in a pot on my balcony.

What a darling pansy! Looks like it’s spring, what a nice greeting for you.

@Claire, love your table. Wish I had room to do something like that!!

@GG, love your volunteer! Pansies are one of my favorite flowers.

Here is Sarah, ready for her first Prom.
