Take care GG

He passed!!!

Hurray! I’m so pleased for you all.

Hurray!! Hurray!! Hurray!!!
Three cheers for not so grumpy anymore bear! :muah:

Thanks, everyone. He starts job hunting tomorrow. He’ll have a job before the end of the week, no problem. He’s going to takes something local, probably in the gas and oil industry that’s booming here right now, while he looks for a good, over the road job. The mood here has been a lot better.

I’m still struggling with the wonky stitches on my top down socks, and getting a pair of toe up socks started. I thought I had a good start on a pair, but realized after a few rounds I’d switched from stockinette stitch to reverse stockinette stitch. Sigh. :knitting: :frog: :knitting: :frog:

Wow, it’s quiet :pout: :waah:

I think you said you’ve got a problem with your toe-ups. What’s wrong?

Everything  The first time, I started out good, then somehow switched to reverse stockinette stitch. The second and third times, I kept splitting the yarn, and ended up dropping stitches trying to fix it. I haven’t tried again yet, I got really frustrated with it.

I’m getting 6 stitches to the inch with the sport weight yarn, and I was trying to use size 1 needles, and it seemed casting on 24 stitches was way to few. I’m probably wrong about that… trust the pattern, right??

Which toe are you doing?

It’s warm today. Lovely. We got to 72 deg. Heat’s off!!! Windows are open.

ETA Depending on how you’re doing the toe, 24 sts would be about right. I started with 28, 14 on each needle for the pair I’m doing now. I’m using fingering weight yarn and size 0 needles. I ended up increasing to 60 sts total, 30 on each needle. If you’re doing that short row toe with the provisional cast on, then you’d need to do more increases after it’s joined. At least that’s what I think. With sock yarn and I think size 1 needles I did 52 sts total on each sock.

I was trying the 3rd one on this page you linked to a couple days ago. I was planning on using my size 2 needles but I only have 4 of them, and I had 5 size 1’s. Are most socks done on 5 needles? I gave up on the short row toe, I’ve done wrap and turn, but never had to pick up the wraps. I’ll try it again someday I’m sure. I figured out the chain crochet provisional cast on, but the toe itself has me :hair:

72°?? :hmm: 50° and thunderstorms here. I love the thunderstorms though.

I’d use a different short row method, I don’t like w&t. However, if you’re not familiar with other methods and you’re already frustrated, that’s too much. I don’t know how many needles would typically be used in a sock. I think when I used DPNs for the top of the sock I used 4 but I wasn’t following a pattern.

Unless you’re a really loose knitter I think size 1 is too small for sport weight. It would be tighter than I like, that much I know. I think I was using 1’s and changed up to 2’s on my Hollyberry sox.

I like thunderstorms too. I’d rather sunshine today. I needed a really nice day.

I couldn’t figure out how to keep the needles straight using only 4. I guess come payday I’ll pick up another set of size 2 and 3 DPN’s. I’m gonna watch those videos after grumpy (again) bear goes to sleep. Thanks for the link. I’ll get there. I just frogged my top down sock ( we won’t talk about how I only had about 3 more inches and the toe to go). I think I’m gonna make a dish cloth.

GG, look!! It’s a toe!! LOL

 Nice toe Janis!

Thanks, Claire!

By gum, it IS a nicely done toe! On three needles!

And now we await the ā€˜nicely turned’ ankle
