I hope you can make it!
Hey, I just got done with a workshop by Beth Brown Reinsel, and it was really great. She’s a great teacher, very patient, and gave a lot of information that will help me (as a knitter who is not a beginner, but who has holes in her intermediate-level skills). I’d recommend it for anyone remotely interested in the techniques she’s doing at Stitches Midwest. For instance, I am not huge into Aran, but this workshop today on gansey construction will carry over into many types of sweaters I may make. Especially good if you are interested in design, but don’t have patience for reading up on the subject. Have fun, all you lucky ducks who live within driving distances of Chicago!

Hrm.
Y’know, my birthday is the last day of Stitches Midwest… and DH and I have a friend who lives in Chicago, whom we could stay with… and MIL will be retired by then, perhaps she (or our next-door neighbors) could look after the Potato…and my DH would totally sympathize with my need to go to this, after all it’s basically just GenCon for knitters…
Where is the website for this again??
Oooh, yes, you should come!!! :happydance: Here’s the link.
Ok - I know I said I wasn’t going to get my hopes up (riiiiiight), but it turns out that I’ll be at a conference for work from Aug 7-10 in NY , then I’m going to attempt to fly to Chicago (spinning this nicely into a visit to HQ in Bannockburn, IL). In between, I’ll try to stay with a friend so I can go to Stitches, then just head to HQ when the following work week starts.
If the airline tickets end up on company dime…I shudder to think what kind of glee-inspired shopping I may have to do. :cheering:
Thanks Kirstin for the tip on the workshop and Wynnie, sounds to me like you’re 1/2 way there already! ![]()
OMG We’re gonna have such a big, FUN group here!!! :cheering:
This gets more exciting by the day!!!
We need KH tees, pins, or something so that we can identify each other. How about we all knit wee kercheifs? :rofling:
So, if I were able to take a day to go to this, what day do you all think would be best? Saturday?
For Stitches, probably so. Howie’s having a BBQ Friday, I think, though you’ll have to get specifics on that from him… :rofling:
Oh, he’ll tell me anything as long as I have DD along to give him a massage. ![]()
A few months back someone here (a regular, iirc) posted that they had knitted a red kerchief for their head. The knitter’s daughter had queried her on it, and she said it was for her “knitting gang”. The pattern was included in the post - unfortunately, I can’t remember who posted it to find the thing. Keyword searches are not panning out for me at the moment. ![]()
Anyway, I think KHers should knit that and wear it as their identifier… maybe with some of KK’s knitted nipples? :roflhard: :roflhard:
Whatever we end up doing, it ought to be easily identifiable in a crowd, yet just crazy enough to set us apart from the other flocks of online knitters who will doubtless be descending on the show. Whether you want to go as crazy as the Attila-the-Drag-Queen hat I sported post-Noho gathering, is up to every knitter’s personal discretion, of course…
Just got a call from hubby. His boss is sending him out of town that weekend :crying: I am never going to make it out there! Have fun everybody!
Someone did knit a kerchief? Wow–I was making that up! We should have something so that we can spot each other from across a crowded convention center… ![]()
:verysad:
:verysad:
yeah i think i have fully decided that I can not come either. the option is still open at this point but i have recently decided that I want to buy a house (poor Dustina if she is reading the e-mails has to be going crazy from hearing me talk of it!) within the next year and i think i will put the money i would spend on the trip away for that.
the good news is that i still have my trip to Grand Island Nebraska the following week to look forward to! ( )
but the reeeeeeeeal good news is that since it would be all my own house i could have a CRAFT ROOM! (which will be cleverly disguised as a YARN ROOM!) :cheering:
This is a GREAT idea - and if someone will make an executive decision as to what we’re knitting (perhaps start a Stitches MW KAL??), I’ll need to get started on this now, cuz the way my triage is filling up, I’d have a hard time meeting a deadline for a 4" swatch at this point.
Brendajos how exciting!! :cheering: But we will surely miss you and mintdee too!
I’m now in major debt to my dad for the use of his credit card to buy a camera, so I don’t know if I’ll be going. If I don’t spend any money until then and I don’t take riding lessons over the summer, I might be able to go. I’ll keep you guys updated. If not, you should allllll come to Stitches EAST in November because I will be there for sure!
:cheering:
As Im sitting here reading this thread, Im letting out an audible “AWWW!” every time someone says they cant go.
Jul…hope you can come to the BBQ Friday night and bring the young’uns to entertain the pooches.
Maybe we have time to get Amy on some KH T-shirts before August?? Otherwise, Im gonna suggest KH buttons…we all have talent enough to trot over to Michaels and get the supplies for those, no? Im not a kercheif kind of gurl.
Then you should probably stick to wearing your tiara, KK! ![]()
More bad news here. I will probably not be able to make it. Hubby can’t get the time off thanks to coworkers in his dept. already calling the week, and my summer project sched is in limbo right now thanks to bloody FEMA. Ghah.
Anyone thinking of going to Stitches East in early November? :??
(p.s. - I will get out to IL, it’s just a question of time.)
raises hand Oh! Oh! Pick me! Pick me! :roflhard:
KK, I think you’d look smashing in a kercheif! Maybe a KH Kercheif KAL could be the July Monthly challenge?
Or we could wear buttons. Amy could get more publicity with T-Shirts, but she might not have time to get them designed, made, ordered and sent to us by then… (unless this turns into something else for KK to organize!
)
