FO - Beloved Bonnet

Hello Everyone! It has been some time since I last posted anything. :pensive:

For reasons of having misplaced my knitting mojo, I have been picking and throwing on several projects with no real progress.

Well, I finally finished something this morning. Yay, and hurray!

Below is a picture of my Bonny Bonnet, the Beloved Bonnet from Tin Can Knits. It is knitted up in Knit Picks Stroll Hand Painted in the colorway Inkwell Tonal. I modified the pattern slightly in that I didn’t do any SSKs.

This is my first time posting with the app. I hope it comes out well.

The bonnet looks so nice on you and will be cozy and warm. Well done!

Thank you! I fully intend on using this to replace the acrylic rainbow beast (as I like to call it) that I made in 2010. This bonnet is made of wool and is much warmer despite being slightly thinner and constructed differently.

Thank you! I plan on making a bunch of these to switch it up with regard to my bonnet choices. However, this will be my go to bonnet. This is actually beneficial in that I can get the yarn I mistakenly doubled up into cakes knitted into something without a massive unraveling headache.

Yay for finishing projects! It is a great success. Hope your knitting mojo has returned to fully functioning and you enjoy your next new project, or next finishing up project!
Thanks for posting a pic, I love seeing what people make.

Yes, wool is a much better insulator than acrylic! Your bonnet looks fab and I’m sure you’ll get lots of use out of it.

Thank you! Yay, is definitely a thing. The lack of knitting mojo was seriously messing with my self-confidence. My next project is (hopefully) going to be much larger using my many skeins of sock yarn. I’m on a No Buy Year and trying to eliminate or at least tame my stash somewhat by end of year.

Thank you! I’ve been wearing my bonnet around the house to keep warm in the AC.

I learned the insulation lesson the hard way when I once took my newly crocheted mittens out into biting cold Maryland winter during a polar vortex. I think I’m still crying from that one.

Thank you!

What a great plan to have a No Buy year!
When you say larger, are you thinking shawl, blanket, sweater or undecided yet?
I’m just swatching some fingering weight yarn for a sweater… I’ll be a while trying that out.

I do a No Buy Year from time to time when my yarn stash and crafts get unwieldy. It can also come into play when my finances get too dire.

My idea of larger is actually also a Sock weight sweater. I’m not straying too far from the Tin Can Knits app actually. I’ve been wanting a Flax Sock weight sweater since the pattern came out. The worsted weight was the first sweater I made and my go to pattern for gifts.

That’s a great looking sweater. I would go for that but I don’t think raglan suits me. Looking forward to seeing your progress with it.

I too am looking for something to get my mojo back. Unfortunately, it’s been years. I was thinking of purchasing this since it looks simple enough and I prefer mindless knitting. I want to ask though…since it’s from the UK, did you have any trouble with the directions/instructions? (I’m in the US too) In general, I have a terrible time with instructions and it’s the basis of my lapse in knitting. I find it so, so frustrating when I don’t understand something and have no help.

You have help now! We’ll be happy to try to work out any knitting problems or mysterious directions. We don’t like to hear about knitting lapses or lost mojo when there are so many good patterns out there.

Thank you :heart_decoration:

You look so lovely in the color of the hat. Great job. Did you use a pattern?

Thank you! I’ll post as soon as I make progress. Another sudden project just took precedence. Twin baby blankets. Not for me but for my friend and his wife’s new kids. I was going to go for something elaborate befitting how much I cherish my friends but I thought about it and realized they’re going to have to wash these constantly. Malt blankets will do.

Hi there, I’m sorry you had a lapse in your knitting mojo. It really is frustrating to be surrounded by yarn and have no outlet of expression going. Hopefully this will give you some help along the path of getting your mojo back. I hope so.

I did everything via the Tin Can Knits App. I carried my phone everywhere and it was glorious. It offered step by step instructions on the bonnet pattern using whichever terminology I wanted to work in. I chose US and tried metric because I like a challenge but you can change it to whatever you want. The sizes of the patterns are customizable to fit your needs. It really is a game changer.

I’m actually working on two more patterns right now in the app. A sock weight Flax sweater and the first of two Malt Blankets. Thus far, my main issues have been life intruding into my crafting time.

As far as the Beloved Bonnet being a good beginner pattern…if you are a very competent knitter, then yes. Go for it. Even if you’re not, I would still give it a go just for the challenge. However, that’s just me. YMMV.

My apologies for the delay in responding. My mom hasn’t been feeling too well lately.
