Little does he know…
Would you mind telling how noisy it is? I’m hopefully going to be buying a new vacuum soon and I was thinking about the Dyson, but for me how noisy it is will be a determining factor. My current Hoover is so loud I can’t run it for more than a couple of minutes at a time without getting a headache. I swear…it sounds like a jet is in the house. I can’t go through that anymore. Seriously, when I use it, the neighbor’s dog (two doors down) starts howling…every single time I use it.
Oh what I wouldn’t pay to see that! I’ve been lusting after a Dyson for a very long time. The Dyson and a Janome embroidery machine are at the top of my “lust after list”. I hope you enjoy it…I’ll get one someday.
OK, when we tested it out in the store my first comment was that it was much quieter. Today in our house it also seemed alot quieter than the Bissell ever was. Our cat who is ultra fearful of the vacuum, even a dustbuster, stayed in her cat hammock the entire time my DH vacuumed. Usually she hides in back of the dryer.
I can’t tell if it’s actually quieter or it’s simply a lower tone of noise but it’s different and better, not so “screamy”.
Hope that helps.
 Oh. I knew it was too good to be true! :teehee: One of these days maybe…
I agree with Stitchwitch that it’s not as “screamy” as other vacuums. It’s more of a windy, wooshy sound. It’s like the sound is all suction, very little motor.
Trying not to hijack the thread, but the Janome is another machine I could rave and rave about. I have a 9000, I’m coveting an 11000, but this 9000 is my baby!
The Dyson’s are such great vacuums. If mine, that we’ve had for twelve years, ever stops working like new, we’ll get one.
Kristen, I think Janome makes the best sewing machines ever. Had a Pfaff for twenty eight years, but it finally died and we got a Janome for free, from a good friend who was updating to an 1100. Not a bad deal, it sews like a dream.
I just bought a Bissel Powerforce Bagless vacuum today.
I got it because of it’s light weight, and bagless feature.
It vacuums quite well. Pretty quiet, too. I didn’t notice it being noisy.
VERY easy to move around, too. Lightweight, compared to my old Hoover.
As you can see, I’ve already used it. The dysons were too expensive. :biting: I don’t like spending 400 to 600 dollars for a cleaning instrument. I’d rather use that money for something else.
Congrats Stitchwitch! I hope you will grow to love your Dyson like we love ours!
I too have been pondering for quite some time about which new vacuum to buy (since it isn’t a fun ‘thing’ I pondered quite a long time). My old Oreck is about to fall apart so after reading all of the above remarks about the Dyson - I did it. Purchased the DC07 (we only have one dog - poodle and doesn’t shed) for $334.9with no shipping or tax. Hope I like mine as well as all of you have. NOW, if I could just get DH to ‘try’ it out, I’d be soooo happy!
Congrats Wanda!! I hope you love it!!
I.Love.My.Dyson. I can’t say enough good things about it. And has anyone noticed that Dyson has a cult like following?
I think Consumer Reports rates items based on what companies give them the most “donations”. Every vacuum sales person I spoke with when looking at a new vacuum cleaner would say that the Dyson is the best. One guy said he purposely does self tests trying to clog all the vacuums he sells, and the Dyson is the only one he can’t clog.
I have 2 cats and a dog, and it’s perfect. I bought the Animal DC-15 but it’s the same as any other DC-15, just extra attachments I don’t use. They have a new DC-18 I’d kill for. My mom has the Dyson Slim…too small for me, but she loves it.
Enjoy!
I received my Dyson yesterday, it made its ‘maiden voyage’ in just the living, dining rooms and one bedroom (more to go later) and I cannot believe what is in the bin. The carpeting was almost new when we moved in (two years in April), two adults and one poodle (they don’t shed), and I’ve vacuumed on a regular basis with the old Oreck, but WOW. I am impressed. I do believe I will join the above mentioned ‘cult.’
If noise is an issue (and it is for me), look at the Electrolux Harmony series. These Swedish-made machines are very nearly silent; a gentle hum is all you hear. Apparently the mufffling technology for vacuums is available but the manufacturers don’t use it because they think customers equate LOUD with POWERFUL. I have the smaller Harmony and it does a perfectly good job on bare floors, upholstery and rugs. It probably doesn’t have the sheer sucking power of the Dysons and Mieles, but I’m not a clean-crazy housekeeper either. It does get the cat hair off the couch, which is all I care about.
