I bought this yarn and was going to knit this blanket. Now that I am reading the pattern I see disaster in my future if I knit it, Doing panels and then sewing them together seems like the finished product would not look as pretty laid out as it does draped on the chair. So I have been scouring the net for an interesting blanket pattern for this multi textured yarn. I was thinking of just doing the whole blanket in seed stitch. Any suggestions out there?
Greetings!!
I like to knit blankets all in one piece because there will be less ends to weave in!!
Which yarn do u have?

It’s on the pattern. It is Bernats Home Bundle . I dont want to just garter stitch the whole thing because it looks too stripy in the pictures I have seen. That’s why I was wondering about seed stitch.
It depends on what u mean by “stripy”. Bernat makes it so that the colors are all together and it makes colored stripes on purpose. Is that what u were talking about?? There will be color stripes no matter which stitch u use.

Is it the ridges of garter stitch, or the dash lines when you’re changing colours that bother you?
There is no changing of color as yarn changes color and texture in the skein. I just dont think sewing 6 - 60 inch panels together would look very good laid out flat. Would much rather have all the stitches on the needle. If I hadnt of bought the yarn I would probably just go with two solid colors and done thick stripes. But I have so much yarn(dont we all) that I really need to use this yarn to make a blanket or throw for a wedding gift.
Cheers!

Yes I guess so. And the way around that is to do the shorter panels so the “stripes” are not so close together. Lesson for me here is to read the pattern closer before I order the yarn. Nit the end of the world but not what I envisioned. Live and learn.

You can always make a sample in seed stitch to see if u like it. U don’t have to make this particular blanket. U can cast on 110 sts (or some large number like that) and then do seed stitch for a large afghan made in one piece.
Try it and see how it works out. How many skeins did u buy and what size needles do u have??

I agree about not liking to stitch panels together. If you look up the yarn on Ravelry you can click on Projects to see what others have made with it. Narrow the search down to blankets.

I’m confused about your yarn color. Is it grey & cream in one skein? I’ve made lots of blankets with Bernat Blanket Yarn (I think this is the same type yarn). Knit stitches do not “pop” well with it. The pattern I like best so far is Yarnspirations Reversible Lap Blanket. Do you crochet? I also like a simple half double crochet blanket with this yarn. Beautiful. Yes the cream and gray colors and different textures are all in one skein. Unfortunately I do not crochet. I love your blanket. I am thinking that I might return the wool and buy a couple of solids. I like the cream grey combo so If I buy the solid color skeins I will have a lot more choices. May even do this reversible blanket. I was just wanting to get the feel from the forum whether I was being paranoid about knitting six panels and then stitching them together. As I suspected, Its probably not a good idea and wont look as good as I want it too. Thanks for your suggestions.

Thank you! I just don’t like to mess with panels! I made a blanket once of a changing color and changing texture yarn. I don’t remember if it was Bernat. I didn’t care for it at all. Just my opinion, but I think you’d be happier with Blanket Yarn.
You could use the pattern “Lilacs in Bloom” by Shari Haux which has no wrong side & is done in one piece. ( Just add a new color when you want.). It has a nice patterned look & is very easy to follow.
Hello it does look beautiful in the picture … here is a pattern I’ve made using different types of wool.
Heavy to light and it’s wonderful.
You can find the pattern here or browse the other patterns there.
Have fun Knitting! :D.
Here’s a pic of a blanket I made from above pattern, using Bernat Pop yarn.
I’ve made this blanket twice with gray and black panels. They turned out great with pointy ends.
Tweedy bird…did you do 6 panels and sew them together?
Cheers!

I’ll keep my “blanket” suggestion simple.
Warm, soft, and just a little bigger than you think you need.
Anything after that is eye candy.
Wow, thats pretty creative. I love all the different stitches!
Cheers!
