Anna, I will definitely let you know! I think it will be a while, though… I should probably change my sig to reflect what I’m really doing right now. I’m currently working on the Bevin tank and a feather and fan shawl. Lady E is definitely on my list though, I already have the yarn!
HI! Another Austin knitter! I am from West Lake but I promise not the snooty part:-) I am fairly new to knitting but LOVE it so much! I have made one visit to HCW and was overwhelmed! Plus I was there with my 3 year old and we had to search for a little pink bunny that she set down to fondle some yarn…(I have 2 daughters, 3 dogs and a husband:-))
We should all totally get together and have a little knitting circle!
I think that would be so cool!
outside of Austin… she knits, crochets and makes dolls…
Hello!
Haha, you mean there’s a “snooty part” of Westlake? :noway:
A knitting circle of KH folks would be fun…I just today got in the rest of my yarn for a Doctor Who Scarf…I’m garter stitching like mad right now! It’s Jo Sharp yarn, and it’s really soft and easy to work with…
I’m a pretty new knitter as well, I get pleasantly overwhelmed everytime I go in HCW…I go there with the best intentions (just need Size 6 US 24" circular needles), but then leave with 100.00 worth of wool…haha! They have everything there…like I always say, though, I need to take the sock class…I just can’t seem to get the hang of socks…
Hey everyone, have a great night!
Martha
Hi Laura! I think a knitting circle would be awesome! How old are your girls? Mine are 3 and 5. My 5 year old is interested in knitting and has learned to finger-knit, but I haven’t taught her to knit with needles yet.
Carey
I also have a 3 year old (well next weekend) and a 5 year old:-) She will be 6 in November! She starts kindergarten on the 27th…I am freaking out a little! Finger knitting? how do you do that? I have thought about buying her those little kid needles so she can learn…not sure yet.
I’m freaking out a little about kinder too, mine starts on Wednesday. She’s thrilled, though! Here’s a link on finger knitting- Emily’s making herself a belt. http://www.knitty.com/issuesummer06/FEATfingerknitting.html
Thanks for the link to finger knitting! That looks like fun to teach!
WHat patten did you use for your Booga bag? Sounds fun!
Jill doesn’t start school until Monday BUT we have activities all week. Ranging from the class lists being posted to “meet the teacher” on Friday to distribution of school supplies. So it’s just killing me inside! Of course she has no idea…ugh.
Yeah, we started the ‘meet the teacher’ stuff last week… tonight we have new parent orientation, then tomorrow we meet my younger daughter’s new teacher, school starts Wednesday, then on Monday night we have ‘Rattler Roundup’, whatever that is…
I used the Black Sheep pattern. It knits up so fast!
Ab! Good luck tomorrow with Kindergarten!
Be sure to tell your daughter something profound before you drop her off at kindergarten. I still remember my Mom sitting in the parking lot telling me “This is school. You are going to be in school for a long time so you may as well decide to like school.” She meant well and no… it didn’t send me into therapy. I always wondered how she knew way back then that I’d be in school until I was 30 getting my Masters.
Hey everyone! I live in the Killeen/Fort Hood area, which is about an hour or so north of Austin. I go to Austin on a regular basis when the hubby is deployed (which is coming up soon - AGAIN). There’s nothing to do here! LOL
I just started knitting a few weeks ago. I’ve made a scarf and earwarmers for my oldest DD (she’s 3). Like she’ll need them anytime soon! LOL
Anyways, I’ll have to let you know the next time I’m headed down that way! Maybe we can get together!
Laura- Thanks! Both of my girls started school there yesterday (the younger one in preschool), and they both did great and had fun. I’ll post the inevitable pictures at the end of my post…
Spasmo, that’s funny! Unfortunately I don’t think I came up with anything profound…
Evos, let us know when you’re down here! We should definitely have a get-together.
How are my Austin Area knitters holding up with with weather???
Kindergarten is a big hit! She loves it!
I’ve lived in Austin all my life… this is a really mild summer as far as I’m concerned! Glad your daughter loves kinder! Mine is having a blast, too.
You are totally right about it being mild! It’s just weird because of the roller coaster with the rain!
I AM SO EXCITED! I just found out that Hill Country Weavers carries Malabrigo Yarn! Everyone keeps raving about it and I refuse to buy yarn that I can’t fondle first!
YES!:woot:
I guess I know what I"LL be doing tomorrow (my day off)! I’ve always wanted to see just what there is about that yarn that everyone loves…thanks for the tip, LauraD!
Now to look for an appropriate pattern, too! What kind of needles? Oh, decisions, decisions! Heehee, I love it!
I may bump into you then! I still have to shop for my swap! I had some yarn picked out…I have actually ordered it but I cannot for the life of me pick a pattern to go with it! I guess I should go the other direction!
If you see a 40’ish blonde with tie-dye or somesuch, it’s probably me (see “Doctor Who KAL” in Knitalong section of forum, pics of me and my hoping-to-knit-to-13-foot-scarf!) Probably get there early to beat the heat…
