I finished a pair of slipper socks yesterday :woot:…one more to go :happydance:…unless dh keeps adding to my list…now I’m knitting my FIL a scarf… I love that he gets excited about my knitting (he just likes to wait till late to tell me) :teehee:
These are made for my best friend since Kindergarten!! She is a very hot pink type of gal so I know she will love these… she has a purse to match them…which is how I chose the colors…seen hot pink and black and thought oohhh her bag…
Details: Tropical Punch slipper patter
Size 8 DPNS
Caron Simply Soft in Hot pink and black
knittienewbie, are you using two circs? what kind of a heel does your pattern call for? short row or heel flap with gussett? I’d love to see more pics as you get further along.
Jackie, glad to hear you have all your angels.
once I get some natural light I’ll take photos (that I keep promising) and post them.
ok here’s the pics I promised.
The finished sock is for my sister for Christmas, “groovy” socks pattern found at knittingpatterncentral.com
the two skeins of yarn are for mine and dh’s next pair of socks (his first pair of fingering weight). I was surprised because his was only $13.00 and comes with matching reinforcing yarn for his heels (that’s where he wears his out) his is Lang Ja Woll color # 132.0204 made in Switzerland and it’s superwash. Mine is tofutsies color #799 made in China, it says it has Chitin in it and that that is antibacterial-who knew? Anyway I bought it because it was so pretty. I’m wondering what pattern I should use. I think I’ll do dh’s with ribbing all the way down the cuff, should I continue it accross the top of the foot too? or just do plain st. st.?
The other pic is of my new shoes, maryjane style, made by Mudd and they’re actually pretty comfortable. I’m wearing my opal socks with them and now wish I’d c/o a few less sts because they’re a little big. o well.
Nice slippersocks, dustinac,…do they just fly off of those size 8 needles?
Very pretty, jberry…love those sock yarns, and that sister’s sock looks so good…I’m particularly checking out the short-row heel.
Here’s where I am…(see photo)…
I knitted my short-row heel with the new instructions I gave a link to a few pages back, and still really like that method. But I never like how narrow heels come out when they have you decrease down to 6 stitches or so, so I only went down to 14 or so stitches. Good news is that the cupping of the heel fits perfectly…bad news is that since you’re not decreasing for that many rows, the heel itself comes out really short. I had to start farther toward the heel, and it doesn’t come far enough up ON the back of the heel. None of this is noticeable if you’re knitting with one yarn throughout, but when you do contrasting yarn for the heel, it is suddenly very strange looking. I did put in a lifeline, so I can just rip like the wind and pick up back at 5 rounds before I started the heel. I don’t know whether to increase, like a gusset, so that I’ll have more heel stitches to decrease, thus making it longer, or…I could work the heel over 60 % of the sock’s stitches instead of 50% as usual. ???
But, on a side note…isn’t it pretty? (Maybe you can see it better on my flickr page… http://www.flickr.com/photos/dottycam/1693737484/ )
Dotty: Maybe start your heel color on the bottom of the foot before the actual heel and continue it up the back a little further, of course you’d have to work with both yarns to do this and you’d have to weave the ends in so you wouldn’t have holes, but maybe that would make it look better? Love the colors still, but I do agree the heel looks very short: guess that’s a short row heel?! :teehee:
I was going through my “favorites” sock list and found some links that may be helpful to y’all.
For short row heels (toes) without holes click here. Magic cast onfor toe up socks, from knitty. magic loop sock, cuff down.
Think someone on this KAL gave this out before, sock sizing chart. (Jeanie, maybe) Super quick baby sock pattern basic baby sock cuff down and toe up (pdf)
my baby sock pattern is on my blog, just click the sock in my signature.
ok that’s alll I have to share now, don’t have much in my sock folder, because I’ve deleted lots.
Yay…:woot:…I’m on a better track now ! I ripped the sock back to the lifeline, and then two more rounds, increased every other round until I had 8 extra stitches, and THEN I started another short-row heel. When I started back up the back of the heel, I was feeling confident enough to add a little sumpin’,sumpin,…so,…now there is a single cable running up the BACK of the sock, starting from the BASE of the heel ! Much better fit, too !

Me, too, Lieke ! RoryGilmore dyed such a pretty skein, I just had to try to show it off !
Where did CG, Ve, Lady violet, and Rachel go? Seems like more than a week since they posted…some even longer than that… hope they come back soon :happydance:
Jberry~Cute shoes!!! I keep trying on different ones… My problem is I don’t want to give up my heel… I love my heels this time of year…Knittingzone carries Jawoll and I keep thinking I’ll give it a try…I think it’s neat that it comes with it’s own matching reinforce yarn… I have some tofutsies but haven’t used it either :teehee:…the last magknits had a pattern for the yarn I think…
dotty~ YAY!!:woot: and what a pretty sock!!! It looks great…
jeanius~ :teehee: it really is a girly sock… she is a girly girl…dad always says it’s something that we were so close…so different…
They do fly off the needles… so fast… I had to do yard work and house work yesterday so I didn’t get to sit down and knit till around 8/8:30 and finished on of the slipper socks for Martha… just takes a couple of hours…
So today my goal is to finish the other slipper sock and start on the next scarf… Silver’s pattern goes sooo fast… but this is my 2nd one and I’m already like :wall:…I have another one to do after this one… :oo:
Then I should just have baby items to get done… woohooo oh yeah I forgot my friends stolen moments wrapbut that shouldn’t take to long… hopefully Nov. this will all be done and I can knit some snowflakes…
Thank you, Missy Dustinac ! For the compliment, and for the pattern link. I printed out the stole directions…I’m still trying to find one for me. All this knitting you’re doing must get expensive ! How very nice that you can do that ! And knitting the snowflake socks, during a November snowy week would just be so appropo !
Yes, we do need our other socksters back ! I just know cinnamongirl is out there reading us during her lunchtimes and getting a chuckle every now and then. C’mon back and say hi, people…we miss you !
My options needles should arrive today…tracking shows that they reached my city yesterday…that stole calls for size 11’s…hmmmm…I wonder if I dare sneak in a little knit with them before the old birthday rolls around. I mean, you know, I really should try them out, just incase there’s a defective something or other that I need to address before I’ve had them for too long !
I say that you have to try them out… you don’t want to wait till your b-day and then discover something is wrong with them and then wait for them to send you another whatever… you have to try them out now :teehee:
Well right now I’m using stash yarns lol… I can’t buy anything till after the holidays or shouldn’t… I did get my son’s b-day taking care of for Nov. and my daughters for Dec…now their Christmas:passedout:…
The slipper socks are made from Caron Simply Soft which I have TONS of and so are the scarves…:teehee: I have some bernat Chunky that will work for the stole… and some reason I have tons of baby yarn… I always plan on having a baby afghan going that way when someone says I’m expecting I can say here ya go… I have the yarn to do that…just don’t have any ready…so yay for stashes this time of year :happydance:
hey look at me! A new name! I thought since technically I’m not a newbie anymore, I should update
Worked a little on my socks last night and a little on my Wicked, but did ya ever notice after knitting socks for awhile, going back to big needles makes ya feel like your knitting with drumsticks or something?:roflhard:
Anyway…jberry I am so glad you are doing so much better!
Dustinac I love those slippersocks!
Dotty…PMing ya
and happy morning to everyone else…er, afternoon…my kid is sick and I’m getting it so we were up late coughing and sneezing yawn
I’m gonna leave this first sock on the size 1 needle that I switched to for the ribbing, until I finish the second, as I am getting worried that I won’t have enough of the ‘destash’ turquoise for both ! Oh, I hope I do ! I love how the two yarns look together !
