Any Sock KAL

ok well I just posted a couple pics to my blog (see sig. for link) and sorry the one of dh’s sock is so dark, that’s what happens with back light from a window and very white skin and dark yarn. I think you can tell where his toes end and the point wouldn’t have been if I’d cast on a total of 24 instead of 12. o well; I’m sure I’ll make some more esp because he’ll probably wear these out.

I do! That way the pairs match up. It’s also easier to keep track of rows on the second sock.

jberry, I can’t see Brian’s sock on your blog…just a big blank !:waah:

I’ve never done any of the magic cast-ons…I do provisional, for toe-up socks.
I always hesitate to do a provisional cast-on, (don’t know why, since the ones I’ve done have come out just fine), but I like them better because I can put it up to the toes of the intended foot (if they’re present) and keep checking width, until I have decreased to the right point. I myself HAVE pointy feet, because of the way my big toe angles over toward the smaller toes … :noway:…now you’re all going to be checking out my feet pictures…:roflhard:

Anyway, here’s a new one for you…minus the foot.

I finished the first Kaylee sock !

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dottycam/1306213597/

:woot::woot::yay::woot::woot:
Very enjoyable knit ! This pair is taking a little longer, but it’s definitely worth it ! And I love this yarn ! I talked to the girl whose shop I got it from, at TricotTreat.etsy, (remember she was going to be stocking new weights and colors yesterday?) and she has been delayed in her travels, but promises good things to come, including merino/silk combos.

Of course, that doesn’t help me, as I spent my little bit of spending money on Etsy last night buying earrings, and turquoise nuggets to make MORE earrings…

dustinac, that cashmere knitting looks fun ! And you did a beautiful job…good for you grabbing the project with Cashmere ! Get another !
I haven’t really tried any ‘big name’ sock yarns, as I usually get the hand-painteds from Etsy, or that Chinese wool…plus the Magic Stripes by LionBrand. But I love to hear the reviews for when an opportunity like that Opal comes up !

dotty… I saw the sock on flickr, its look great! :cheering: I love the colors!

It came up for me after I posted it, o well, I’ll try to post it here too.
Your socks are so pretty and now I know why some socks are pointy toed-not to make fun, my Grandma’s and aunts toes go like that…all those years of having to wear high heels I guess; that’s what they blame it on anyway. Gorgeous pattern. I have to ask though with all the holes in the pattern are they going to be warm for winter? (not trying to be a smart a$$, just curious)

finished my opal socks and forgot to post pic here, here’s the pics

as you can see some of the stripes match, don’t remember who was asking if it was being knit picky to have them match or not, but I just started the second one where I left off on the first one b/c I wanted to see just how much yarn it took and some of the stripes match and some dont, wierd huh?! Anyway These socks are 6" tall and my foot’s a size 9 and I only used 67 grams of the 100 gram ball of opal. Think I have enough for a newborn hat, 33 grams left?

Girl !

Are you trying to be a troublemaker or what ? :roflhard:

Makin’ fun of my feet and and my holey socks ! :teehee:

Yep, those is my daddy’s feet ! I’ve got his nose, too, but I’d rather not share pics of it !

I’m more worried about those socks being TOO HOT to wear…I want to wear them immediately ! But, no, I’ve found all of my wool socks to be like little heaters on my feet, and when they have holes, they seem to act like a thermal blanket !

Errrrrr…by the way, my daddy DIDN’T wear HIGH HEELS !

Atleast not around us kids !

jberry…I see what you mean but I don’t think it looks bad…I would prolly co more the next time as well cause it will bother you if you don’t :teehee:…I like the pattern too

dotty…that yarn and the pattern is beautiful :woot:when things calm down here do you mind if I copy you :teehee:

I decided to get another skein of yarn…I asked dh if I would be crazy to take the yarn and make cashmere socks  he said yes… here is her shop on etsy…

I forgot to mention that it wasn’t me who bought the opal either…whoever did has to come forward and tell us the surprises if they are on here…:teehee:

Oh, dustinac, DO make these socks too when things settle down !

I jumped right in when I saw a girl on flickr making them…she hadn’t even made her second when I begged her for her pattern source and she shared it AND her modifications !

And, when I contacted the girl who sold me the yarn for these (TricotTreat), I shared a photo of the work in progress, and she said that she had bought a book of 300 stitch patterns, written in French, while she was on vacation, …and out of all those patterns, the one she had chosen to swatch and try out was almost just like what I was doing in the Kaylee sock ! The book had no text for the designs, just grafts, and her swatch was a mess…the sock pattern I shared was able to tell her what she was doing wrong ! What a wonderful co-inkydink !

jberry, I love those socks in that stripe ! If hubby gets rowdy with you, throw some of that leftover yarn in as the heels in his socks ! Looks like a coordinate to me !:roflhard:

dotty… beautiful socks!! I love the Kaylee pattern and the color is so vibrant. Love it!

GJ, thanks for the confirmation about the striping . I hadn’t thought of it that way… helping to keep track of rows but that’s a bonus! Hope you are feeling better soon.

And very nice scarf dustinac. no worries, your work is beautiful!! And I love the color. That yarn sounds wonderful. I’ve never used cashmere.

rorygilmore, I love the color of your yarn for the Jaywalkers. Once you get them started again on the bigger needles I’m anxious to see more knitted up. So get busy!!

I’m flipping back and forth between a cabled scarf I’m working on and my Tofutsies ‘block socks’. The pattern called for an “eye of partridge” heel flap. Slight variation on the other heel flap pattern I used but very subtle design and pretty.

dotty: not trying to be a trouble maker, just curious and if you don’t ask then you’ll never know. The next pair of socks will be for me, toe up and I’m going to use a leaf or fern pattern which will probably look funny on dark blue socks, but who cares-they’re mine. I figured if I try to do the pattern top down then the fern or leaves would be upside down and that’d look funny, except when I have my feet up on the coffe table, hummm. Ok so I’m rambling. My dad didn’t wear high heels either, but his feet do the same thing-maybe they’re hiding something from us, jk. my feet are always hot, and I worry about my socks making my feet sweat and then well ick. Guess we’ll just have to see, it’s still 77 degrees here at 9pm!
dustinac: thanks for your honest opinion, we were at Mom and Dad’s tonight and I put the socks on my feet to show them how the toe was pointy and we decided he can pretend he’s a elf and I’ll make cute pom poms to go on the toes; probably not, but it was funny. The pattern is just k2p2; what he wanted.

my ‘fern/leaf’ socks will probably be done one at a time, since a size 2 needle will be too big for the yarn I want to use, and I don’t like to untangle yarn (who does?) so between each of dh’s socks I’m switching balls around and it takes extra time. I think I may do them at the same time, but on their own needles…then again maybe not- I don’t have a problem with sss sofar. Guess I should finish his first though. I have a bad habit of getting lots of things started and then not wanting to finish them anymore b/c they’re not ‘new’ projects anymore. shame on me.

I was thinking some of the ‘fun fur’ in rainbow colors to make it pretty, I have some in blues. jk he’s looking over my shoulder now.

I’m gonna wait ‘til I’m in the ‘home’ before I make myself some CASHMERE socks ! I wanna make sure my feet never touch the floor ! :)

Wow…what a luxury ! Must be heaven to knit !

Can you guys tell that I’m procrastinatin’ about doing my second provisional caston ? :teehee:

jberry16!! I love your Opal socks. The colors are so neat and they look like they fit well!! I’m glad you posted a pic, I’m the poster who wondered about the stripes matching. Yours socks look great and helped me picture it better. Not quite matching looks perfectly fine on your socks. I’m still not sure with my yarn what to do so I’m currently holding off on casting on for #2. And I don’t want to run out of yarn if I waste alot trying to get to the right color sequence to start.
How did you determine how many grams you used? Do you have a scale at home?

Would this drive you buggy, cinnamongirl ?

lol!! Maybe… can you tell I’m a tad OCD. I tend to like symmetry but with looking at all the sock pics, the colors are so pretty I’m beginning to think it won’t matter. Besides, it #2 DD gets her way she’ll be wearing them so I won’t go crazy over my mismatched socks!!

Is this still active or is it just everyone finishing up? I’d love to join you guys if that is still ok.

I love all the socks I’ve missed the last few days.

Now some good news (apart from me being busy)!

 1. I’ve finished my first breeze. (pics will be here soon)
 2. I’ve celebrated my birthday yesterday (my real birthday is next wednesday, but I’ll have to work that day) and I’ve got more sensational knitted socks and I will be getting sensational knitted socks as well, but the online shop hadn’t delivered that yesterday. I also got some yarn, supposed to be sock yarn (according to the LYS-lady). It’s a new yarn, so I didn’t know it yet. Oficially it isn’t sock yarn. It’s 75%cotton and 25%seacell. I really wonder how the socks’ll turn out.

:roflhard:fun fur heels…dad’s in high heels…ya’ll sure gave me the morning giggles today…

dotty~that is neat that you could help her :teehee: I’d be like let me take my book back now lol… that’s the one thing if I did make socks form it would I wear it? or just sit and pet them? Mom told me last night I should keep the scarf… I told her I can make another one of those but another hank of cashmere well I have no idea when I’ll get one of those again :teehee:… go work on your second sock lol so I can be jealous even more…

cinnamon_girl~Thank you!! I can’t wait to see your new socks… I have a touch of OCD too well ok JD would tell you I have a lot… I drive him crazy… but socks are different for me…well I take that back I’ve only made one self striping pair and I cut the yarn so it would start the same and it turned out ok… and I do change leg patterns to usually 3 repeats if I can… I like 3:oo:… so maybe I shouldn’t say that…the Mystery Shawl 3 it is pretty but the wing on the end I just can’t do…I was going to change the pattern and just repeat the first design on the other side when mom said she would like to have it with the wing…

Jberry~I can’t wait to see the fern socks I think they sound neat!! I have the same problem with projects…I’m having trouble right now working on a shawl…

Kaylee~ no your not to late…this will continue as long as someone is here making socks…:woot:Welcome to the sock madness :woot:

Lieke~Happy Early Birthday…I love the More sks book… I hadn’t seen that sock yarn… I wonder if like in Tofutsies the sea would make it antibacterial?

Well I need to go and get busy on the shawl… trying to tell myself today the faster you work on it the sooner you can make some socks…
