Ooh, I love River Rocks , S§ocks, and Snapdragon !
those are nice looking socks, I almost have my second one done, just a few more toe decreases and then I’m going to cast on for my dh socks toe up with short row heel and 2 at a time. I guess I’m feeling ambitious b/c I’ve never done any of those 3 things above; maybe I’m crazy?
Nah, not crazy…well, I don’t know you that well, maybe YOU ARE ! But now’s a good time to try those new techniques, while you’re enthusiastic about it and have this forum to answer your questions !
Well, the Opal is gone, so that’s one temptation out of the way…I told her that I had mentioned on this thread that I had been offered surprises to go along with it, and that she might want to include some to whomever DID buy it; she said that it is going to a good home in Athens, Georgia, along with some extras ! :cheering:

Hmmmmmmmm…I wonder if that’s one of you gals ? If so, congrats…that was a good buy, and I want to see the socks made from it !

Now if I can just get through tonight’s Saturday Night Specials on Etsy…you know I have to look ! :teehee:
To frog or not to frog? I can’t tell if this sock is going to fit me. I measured it and my leg, it measures 9 inches wide and my leg measures 9 1/2 inches. So I don’t know if I should frog it or not. This is a Jaywalker by the way.
IF i do frog it, i think i will start over toe up.
Hey Everyone!! >:waving:
What a busy week. I had the grandkids over for a few days earlier in the week, sort of an end of summer fling. It was loads of fun but my knitting was squeezed in a little here and there.
And what a lot of activity going on here on the KAL. I just caught up with all the posts and wow, hello to all the sock knitters joining us!! :cheering:, lot’s of neat socks and yarns and tips (thanks for the youTube dotty!). But you guys are killing me with the etsy shop listings!!! :wall:
I’m trying so hard to be good but it’s hard. And no, it wasn’t me who snagged the Opal but I seriously considered it.
I was able to finish the 1st sock of my second pair. It’s Fortissima Socka in self-striping pattern. No bells or whistles, just stockinette stitch but it fits well and the colors are pretty. Now to cast on for it’s mate!! :woot:
Oh, cinnamongirl…I thought maybe my grandbabies would be visiting from Germany within the next week, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen right now ! I envy you !!!
And don’t you look like the young, hip gramma, with those painted toenails and jeans !
rorygilmore, that’s the pattern that everyone has so much trouble getting to fit isn’t it? I just don’t know…having not made it yet,…but I understand that it doesn’t have ‘forgiveness’ built in, since it’s not stretchy ! I knew your yarn was going to be gorgeous in a Jaywalker, though…absolutely !
Hey, girls…check your smilies when you make a reply. Are they the ones you picked? Mine keep changing…I go and pick the ones I want over there, again, and they change AGAIN ! Maybe the site thinks I have bad taste !
The Saturday Night Specials are going on now, but there has been no special on yarn that has tempted me ! http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=5215194&page=1

But, now, jewelry…that’s another story…I am tempted…
dotty, I’m sorry to hear your grandbabies aren’t going to make it for a visit. It must be hard with them so far away. Mine live about 45 minutes from me. Everything said about grandchildren is true. They’re the best. I have to admit, when catching up on this weeks posts I had to laugh when you related what Zoe said about the boinging socks!! So cute at that age and so bright!!
And I am a young and hip grandmom…lol, but much as I would like to claim that pretty pedicure and foot as mine, I must confess my sock model is #2 DD. She’s newly married but hubby is away for 6 weeks (job related) so she came to spend the week with me and the winks. She’s quite interested in my new knitting projects and has volunteered to take any unwanted socks off my hands. :teehee:
While I’m thinking about it, I’m going to cast on later for the second sock and does anyone else try to start the yarn on these self-striping yarns, where there is a pretty obvious pattern at the same place so they match?? Or is that knit picky??
I would REALLY love to be in on this group, but I’ve been so BAD with keeping up on my KH time lately
I just finished this pair, and catching up on the thread reminded me that washing in conditioner might be a good solution to the scratchiness of this yarn (Lane Cervinia Forever Jacquard).

I have a bunch of different sock yarns to play around with including some Mountain Colors Bearfoot and some Tess Designer Yarns Supersock Yarn. Maybe I’ll get going on some Monkey’s for myself, or the Broadripple Socksfrom Knitty. Hmmmmm…
For those knitting Magic Loop 2 at a time - I do fine with these until it’s time to pick up sts for the gusset. I usually switch to doing 1 at a time at this point, but my main problem is not keeping track of the number of rows in the foot, so I end up with a slight difference. Do you keep count of the number of rounds? Would love any tips you have to offer.
cinnamongirl ! You’re hilarious ! Better guard those finished socks !
And , no , I don’t try to match the stripes, but I am becoming more careful when I cast on, because sometimes an odd bit of color comes along for only a few stitches there and looks weird. I like to have as much of a color length in the tail as in the working yarn, if that makes sense. And I had some white start on the very last round before kitchenering, on those socks for SIL, so I tinked a bit, cut the yarn, and started another color about 4 rows back that would be long enough to finish.

Welcome, jamadian, :waving: …the good thing about this knitalong is that there’s no real committment…you don’t have to finish in any time frame, or at all, for that matter, though we hope that you do !
I hadn’t thought of removing one sock to do the other one by itself at that point,…hmmmmmm. And, yes, I keep track of the rounds when I’m doing them separately, and sometimes I’ll place a row marker or paperclip through at a certain point, like where the short-row heel becomes sock again, just so that I can count the rounds from that point, and mark it down for the second sock. I’ve finally learned how to recognize decreases pretty well, so that I can tell if I forgot to mark down whether I’m on a knit round or a decrease round. That used to really stump me !

Dagnab it ! My smilies have changed again.!…apparently I’m supposed to love this one… cloud9…I’d never even seen it before, but I guess I’m supposed to be floating on cloud nine !
The Jaywalkers that I’ve knit have run small, there is no real give to the pattern. (those are a pair of Jaywalkers over there under my name–Opal, first Rainforest collection, Owl) If you have a circular needle, even if it’s a size bigger, run it through your stitches and then you’ll be able to try the sock on. don’t give up on the Jaywalkers though, it’s a great looking sock–just adjust the number of stitches or try a needle one size up and see if you like the resulting fabric that you knit.
I finished the toe increases on my dh’s socks, 2 at a time toe up magic loop…my question for y’all is this, he wants ribbing along the top of the foot and up into the leg, how do I know which side to do the ribbing on, which is front/back? does that make sense? tia
i did 2x2 ribbing on the top and leg of my first socks. i just decided the beginning of each round on each sock was the tops. make sense?
cinnamon_girl looks wonderful!!! :happydance:
Welcome jamadian75:woot:!!! The socks look great… I have heard great things about the Mountain bearfoot yarn please let us know how you like it…
rory~That is going to be pretty…did you decide to frog? I don’t know if it would be enough stretch in the ribbing or not… that is one reason I haven’t started the jay walkers :teehee:…on ravelry I’m in a group that this month you can knit them or do a toe up sock… I’ll prolly just pick a toe up sock…
jberry not crazy at all… or maybe we are all crazy and don’t know it yet…:oo:…the one sock I started ML and toe up was ending up way to big and so I frogged it… I just picked one side and marked that needle for the instep…I’m not much help on these socks… I have to try this again…:teehee:
dotty I’m sorry they won’t be able to come for a visit…we don’t live that far away from my parents about 4hrs…just enough to make it where you can’t go very often…mom is missing her grandbabies like crazy and is coming up in a week and half to spend a few days with them lol… yeah my smilies are changing too… on the GH forum Sheldon said that Amy changed them or something…
I’m glad you guys like her patterns too… now leave me a snapdragon when they put them back up :teehee:…
I was wondering have any of you tried Koigu or Socks that Rock… I was reading a thread on Ravelry where a lot were disappointed in this sock yarn… these 2 yarns are the ones I want to try but haven’t yet… wonder if I’ll be disappointed too… I was in Lorna’s Laces but I think that’s cause I built it up to much…
On ravelry I signed up to be a test knitter… I got the yarn this past week to make a very pretty scarf… all I have to do is graft it together… then I have to work on a shawl that has to be off the needles in less than a week… then I can get back to my socks :woot:
Hereis test knit I just finished… it’s not the whole scarf yet… will get pictures of that today… my first time knitting with any % of Cashmere… now I have to decide keep the scarf or exchange for another skein of yarn :blooby:
I think I am going to frog them and start toe up on a bigger needle. I really don’t like how tight the fabric is.
thanks, it’s going better than I thought. I should have cast on 12 on each needle in the figure 8 but instead cast on 6 on each needle & so my dh is going to have pointy toes, but they’re just going to be 'round the house socks so I think it’ll be fine. Told him I’d fix it on the next pair, he didn’t seem to mind.
I think your scarf is very pretty, is there any way you will be able to know what your next project will be? then you could make an easier decision on whether or not to keep the scarf or exchange it for some yarn. I’d probably exchange it that way you get to try lots of different yarns for free (right?). Do you get to keep the patterns? I think being a test knitter would be fun.
dustinac- what a pretty scarf!.. nice knitting
Thank you!! :woot:It is done :woot:I hope when she sees it in person she thinks I did a good job…I get nervous other knitters looking at my stitches :teehee:…
I’m not sure what I will do next or when…they have a group on ravelry and you kinda just jump in and hope you are one of the first to spot a test knitting open… I think I’m going to chose the yarn though… I think…
rory~I prolly would have done the same… they will be pretty in those colors
jberry~can’t wait to see pictures… and once you get the socks off the needles it might not look pointy to others…
