Any Sock KAL

thanks and yes I have a kitchen scale at home, never used for anything but yarn. I actually bought it at Linnens 'n Things to weigh a skein of yarn & a sock to see if there was enough yarn left on the skein to make the second sock (they were just ankle socks). I paid about $30. for it; I think. This is the one I have. And these were my ankle socks…
I Don’t wait too long to co for sock #2 b/c then you’re at risk for the sss (second sock syndrome) where you don’t finish your pair. THese socks actally ended up going to my Mom b/c they were to skinny for my wide feet, but fit her perfectly! I think they were Lorna’s Laces sheppard sock yarn color 92.

Good Monday, girls ! Happy Labor Day !
I’m so glad September is here ! :muah:

Kaylee Chenille :waving:, hi ! and WELCOME ! ! !
Your name matches my current sock project, perfectly !

I don’t think this bunch will ever be ‘finishing up’.
Everytime we finish one pair, we start another. Just jump right in ! We tend to get silly and off topic every once in awhile, but that’s just 'cuz we’ve gotten so comfortable with each other. We COULD take it to the chat room, but every once in a while, a real nugget of useful information comes out of our silliness, so you just have to wade through ! :teehee:

Okay, dustinac…number 2 is underway…I’ve got everything I need right here at my feet, and got up early to have peace and quiet to do my provisional caston and toe…DONE !

I’m throwing this out there for anyone who can help…when you’re finishing a short row set, either the toe or the heel, and you get to those last two stitches that have a wrap on them (one has been done on the knit side, and one on the purl side)…Now, you start knitting in the round again…Okay, you knit across your needle, knit that last slipped stitch along with it’s wraps…knit across the instep or other toes stitches, then back to the needle you did your toe on. Here’s where I get into confusion ! The first stitch on this needle has wraps around it…I have trouble finding them, but I know they’re there ! :hair: When I try to pick them up, I really only can find one, and I know there should be two. But even that one is SO TIGHT ! I usually twist the stitches and the wraps on the knit side, so do I just pick it up and since it’s so tight , not twist it, twist the real stitch, and knit them together? Seems like I do something different here everytime, holding my breath Crossed Fingers and peeking to see if it looks okay. It does, but I keep thinking it should be easier ! Because you’re already worrying about maybe having to pick up a stitch in the gap between the two needles so as not to have a hole THERE. Does anyone else here have a problem at that point? :??

I’ve never done short row, at all. I actually had a question for when to begin the heel. More Sensational Knitted Socks says to complete the foot and then start the short row heel…hang on I think she has instructions for provisional toe cast on…uno momento…are you using magic loop? (if not how many dpn are you using?) pm me your email and I’ll scan the instructions to you. How many total sts are you needing for the sock, so I make sure I email you the right set of instructions.

:oo: I don’t know if this what your suppose to do but I tend to knit to the last st/wrap and then put it on my instep needle…I knit the first instep st with the wrap to hopefully stop any holes…then I knit across the instep to the last st and put the last wrap on the other side on the instep needle…I do a ssk…so far it’s worked ok and I Haven’t seen big holes… I’m prolly wrong…:teehee:

I had trouble on my Entrelac socks on where to start the heel… I think it’s hard to decide going toe up… maybe once you get used to knitting socks toe up you can just tell…like I can with cuff down…

eta: ok in SKS she says if your doing a toe up short row heel continue the instep and sole until sock reaches anklebone…if your doing a toe up with heel flap she has “the heel flap is worked from the middle of the arch to the heel”

Lieke~Happy Early Birthday…I love the More sks book… I hadn’t seen that sock yarn… I wonder if like in Tofutsies the sea would make it antibacterial?

Well, the ballband says it’s antibacterial, so that’s one thing it does. But since cotton alone isn’t suitable for socks, I was wondering weather it does something else.

jberry, I am doing MagicLoop…one sock at a time, obviously, and it’s worked on 56 stitches total, – 28 for the heel and toe.
I thought I’d just ask for the info here, since others probably need it too !~

Those Sensational Socks books have been bragged on alot…would love to add them to my little kntting library, too !

I wanted to wait until Wednesday to say Happy Birthday, too, Lieke, but I’m afraid I’ll forget or have thunderstorms that keep me off the 'puter ! So HAPPY BIRTHDAY !:balloons:

What great gifts you have in those books !:present: I’ve heard raves over the SeaCell, but I don’t know if it makes cotton practical for socks or not. Maybe it gives them a little stretch, too !

Dear hubby found me an old postal scale at a garage sale…it’s little bitty, (you have to balance a rolled up sock on it), but it’s still just enough help to let me know if I have enough yarn left to finish a second sock ! Atleast, it hasn’t let me down yet… I’d love to have a digital one…but right now I’ve got a broken fridge to pay for fixing !
(We have a 1950’s spare in the garage, that always saves our butts…not to mention our groceries !)

Jberry-your socks look great! :cheering:
jamadian75-i love the blues in yours:thumbsup: Very pretty!

I just got sks and am trying to decide what to knit first (once i can knit again). It’s frustrating not even to be able to make a gauge swatch to help me decide.

I go for a physical therapy eval tomorrow and an EMG on Wed. oh to knit again…

Thanks Dustinac! This looks like a great group of sock addicts and I can’t wait.

Plus maybe you guys can help motivate me to get past some serious SSS for the 5 pairs of socks I’ve got going.

My first Cookie A. sock. I love her patterns! This one is toe up with a figure 8 cast one, tis called twinkle toes.
Whole sock

This one is darker but it shows the color better. Picture 3

And the Breeze socks from Knitty.com (is someone else doing those?) Just one is finished.

Cookie A. Rhiannon
I just started this one yesterday and so far I’m loving it!
Rhiannon 1

Rhiannon and Breeze are both knit on Shibui Sock 100% superwash Merino yarn. Breeze is color 3115, blue-greenish and Rhiannon is 1765, pinkish. I LOVE this yarn for socks, it’s fantastic and stretchy!
Twinkle toes is Lane Borgosesia Merinos Sei dark red Number 61.

I’m doing breeze. I’ve just found out they’re originally knitted in cotton (that’s what I’m knitting them in as well) and I’ve just finished the first one. I love the pattern! I’ll post pics as soon as I have enough time.

Ok, here’s what i had knitted so far. problem is my BF has huuuge feet and i’m getting tired. Also when i knit the wraps for the heel i ended up with holes…:!!!: i tryed five times, then i just let it be. Next time maybe they’ll turn out better.

Howdiee…:blooby:

GJ~ :hug:I’ll be thinking of you…let us know how it goes…

Kaylee~Those are really pretty…I love Cookie’s patterns too…Twinkle toes has been on my list since the show…:wall: one of these day I’ll catch up the to do list lol…When I finish the first sock…I really want to cast on to a new pattern so far I’ve talked myself into finishing them first…I think it would help me if I learned two at one time :teehee:

Lieke~ I can’t wait to see the photos!!

Sig~ :passedout: I’d be getting tired too just a little bit…your almost there…short row heels I find I have holes on the purl side…but the knit side looks good…I have no idea what I’m doing differently  lol…

ok so I’ve been sock browsing…although I really want to make the snowflake socks next… so I’m not sure why I have been…but I think I want to give illusion knitting a try…so I may give thispattern a try…but first I have to finisht that stole…:wall:

I’d be more than happy to ‘share’ the other instructions out of the book, however i’ve scanned them in and have no way of making the photo big enough to read them here, and it’s way too much to type up-so if anyone needs short row heel instructions pm me your email and I’ll send you the info. sorry I just don’t have the ability to copy/paste them here.

hope that helps - like I said the other instructions are mainly for short row heel, but from my understanding would work well for short roe toes too-if you need those please pm me your email and I’ll send you the attachment.

I am finishing a second sock for my sister. She just can’t get herself to do it! We are however looking to buy the short (5 inch I think) dpns for sock making. Any good places or sites? Thanks :aww:

www.knitpicks.com

Knitpicks carries 6" dpns…but if you go to hereyou can find hiyahiya’s and they have 5" dpns…I like the shorter ones better…you can also get sox stix in 5" but they are more expensive…

Wow, sig…you really know how to match those stripes ! Okay, you may sit over there by GJ and cinnamongirl !

Thanks, jberry ! I got your email and printed it out. I don’t think I’ve ever done the thing where your last wrap is around one of the instep stitches on each side. I guess on the toe, to use that step, you’d go ahead and pick up the stitches being held on the crocheted cast-on and put them on a needle before that last step.

I’ve actually made myself slow down and enjoy this second sock of the Kaylee pattern. I have hoarded this yarn for quite a while, searching for just the right pattern, and I don’t want to rush anymore !
I have just the right combination in this one,…beautiful, soft yarn, plus fun, interesting, but not difficult pattern.= many hours of knitting enjoyment ! :muah:

I finished my Monkeys this weekend! Go Me! I gotta take pics later today now.

:woot: Hooray ! Hooray ! Another Monkey today ! :woot:

This site holds some weird cookies ! It shows that I’m currently looking at this thread, but I still have to log in to post a reply !

I FINALLY finished my Gansey Sock this weekend so I figure it took me a month.

Now do I finish my Jaywalker or make DS the pair he has been waiting for?!

1to1-your socks look lovely!

And I can knit again!!!:woot:

Just a little bit at a time, but:woohoo:!

I went for occupational therapy. The OT did an evaluation and then watched me knit. He fashioned a splint for my right thumb that gives me more movement in my hand, but protects the enflamed joint.
He also recommended that I try to work with my palms up a bit more–esp. the right one, since that will take the pressure off the trapped nerve on that hand.
