GJ, I’m sorry… hopefully the nerve test will come back ok…
I haven’t used Palette, but I know others have… I’m not sure how it could be more durable though…I keep thinking I’ll add a color card for it on my orders but still haven’t…:teehee:
I think it would work well with thesesock patterns…
we only have one very small yarn shop here and wal-mart… I buy a lot on line…and etsy which brings me to…
Jeanius… I seen your post about the etsy shop with yarn for 5.99… :teehee: I had my pal’s box already to go… ordered her some and me some… got it today :happydance:
I’ve only made one pair of socks out of 100% merino wool, and they’ve actually felted in a few small places on the sole of the sock. I imagine that my foot got sweaty (sorry, gross, I know) and the friction of the wool in my shoe made it felt…but it’s made a Superwash buyer out of me. I do have some wool that I haven’t had any trouble out of, and that’s the Chinese fingering weight that I get here… http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5177616 I have worn one pair of socks knitted from her wool several times, with no problem, but maybe the conditions just weren’t all coming together at once like they did with the merino. I don’t know…but I play it safe most of the time now, and buy the superwash.

The yarn that I dyed with kool-aid dye the other day is very scratchy, and I don’t know if it’s because I didn’t wrap it in saranwrap when I microwaved it or what. Maybe that dried it out ! The original skeins that I bought with it don’t feel as dry and scratchy. I think it’s Peruvian highland wool from knitpicks and that I’m too sensitive to wear it. I’ve been told (on Flickr) that the Palette yarn is pretty much what you expect for the money. It looks good, and is probably very durable, but not much in the softness department. I was tempted to load up on it at that price, but have decided against it.
What shop was it, dustinac?

And G.J., I am so sorry…that sucks bigtime ! But you’re doing the right thing, and your hands WILL get better !
As an answer to your questions: I prefer to use metal dpns. I’ve used bamboo, but that’s just not my thing (I broke them accidentally, NEVER EVER leave them in a hot car). Since I’m allergic to wool, finding good sock yarn is a bit of a challenge for me. I really like using cascade fixations. It’s nice and strechy, so the socks’ll stay on your feet. Currently I’m using flotte socke baumwolle. I’ve knitted a few pair of socks with that, but never for myself, so I’m really curious how they’ll turn out and how well they’ll stay on your feet.
dotty… ohhh she has pretty yarn…hereis the shop… it’s not as soft as I hoped for but I think that comes from being dyed and spun by her… I don’t know for sure but I’ve never bought yarn that was done that way before so I’m guessing :teehee:…the colors are really pretty…
I don’t usually get the peruvian wool to dye…I’ve just had issues with that yarn lol and then I’ll forget…get some and be like :wall:… the merino I think works better for dying… I really have to watch the peruvian not to felt… and it seems to be more sticky and yeah not as soft…
Thank you , dustinac, for that link !
Now that you’ve got it at home, you don’t think that this shop’s yarn is Peruvian wool? I’m starting to get very hesitant when I find good prices…if I can’t wear it , it doesn’t do me any good to make socks from it !
I didn’t get much time to work on my sock last night, because we are prepping to go camping this holiday weekend. I did however choose to stop my cuff at just 2" because I’m getting antsy to try the heel and gussets. I want to see if I can even do it.
I got confused at the dividing of the stitches to start the heel on just one needle working back and forth, but I think I figured it out. I looked at the pictures and adjusted the stitches accordingly so it matched Silver’s tutorial and so I could start the first row of the heel on the right side of the work. I’ll let you know how it goes…
GJ - Sorry to hear about your hands. I’m sending get well soon wishes your way for a speedy recovery.
Lieke - Thanks for all the great advice on yarn types. I will check those out.
Oh no her yarn is 80% wool and 20% Nylon :happydance:
I was talking about when I buy Knit picks Peruivan wool to dye I have ran into trouble with it… so now I just stick with the Merino they sell…:teehee: my mind is going around and around today that I can’t keep up with it or keep my thoughts straight…
I think that’s a smart way to do it, veronikaj,…stopping the cuff short, to get to the next step. After all, this is your ‘learning sock’.
such an intrigueing pattern, I just hadta ! :woot:
I’ve done 4 repeats of the pattern so far, and the first provisional cast-on, short-row toe in forever !
Here’s what I have so far…
dotty those are cute! as for the lambzie divy woolens yarn (etsy store, she has a blog too) it is a little on the rough side, and 1 ply, but i think with washing after knitting them should soften them up. i am planning on knitting some nice boot socks for around the house, camping and when i need some good thick socks!
Everyone is making such awesome progress. I had to put my 2nd sock down to pick up a couple of baby blankets that need working on - I’ve got the 2nd sock about halfway through the leg - I’m surprised how fast they go when you get going!
dotty - those socks are gorgeous! I love that colorway!
GJ - I’m so sorry! I’ll be sending lots of happy hand thoughts your way!!
dustinac - thanks for that link! I thank you, and the shop will probably thank you too!:teehee:
Ooh, did you all notice that her blue yarn is not solid…it’s subtly mixed with other color !
I’m curious about her saying ‘hand-wash, lay flat to dry’, when it has the nylon in it, but maybe that’s just a precaution as all handknits should be treated kindly?
Outrageous ! Hey , you might could even get away with knitting those for a guy…if he was cool enough !
Okay, I have a retraction to print !!!
I formally withdraw my recommendation of Susan Bates Quicksilver needles…as much as I love the coated finish, they’re just NOT POINTY ENOUGH ! It takes forever to get into those k2togs or backward-loop cast-ons !
On a better note, this pattern for the Kaylee sock is SO MUCH FUN ! Kindof like the Monkey sock…you just look forward to seeing each new repeat of the pattern and it’s interesting to do !
I forgot to mention that I got this yarn on Etsy, too (of course; where else do I shop?)
http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=30291
This gal is super sweet and has really good prices…and I notice that she is going to list new colors on September 1st…woo hoo ! She does have one skein of this color left. It is one of the few I still have that aren’t superwash…but it’s SO SOFT ! Wonderful merino !
:woot:Go Monkeys!!:woot: I’m still on the first cuff of my scroll sock :oo:
dotty, I got the blue and it is sooo pretty… her colors are really pretty… I bought one red and one blue :teehee:…the blue is suppose to be for my pal but I like it so much… will have to order me a blue later…
threesmom~YAY!!!:happydance:
:psst:jeanius posted it in the general forum last week… so if your wallet needs someone to blame… blame her…:teehee:
dotty those are soo pretty… and jeanius I have that pattern on my to do list… ravelry has added soo many socks to that list :teehee:
eta: I just added her to my favorites early today so I could remeber to go back and look at her yarns… she has very pretty colors… for some reason i can’t get that tangerine color out of my head from the bamboo yarns you mentioned earlier… and i have no idea what sock I’d make with it… but I’m sure I would find one…
