I go to it, choose a photo from my pictures in my computer, resize it with their button, and save it to my computer. Then it will fit on this site’s “manage attachments” feature.

It’s the only way I can do it on this site, but it’s fairly quick and painless.

So glad you love the monkeys…I totally agree, but there are SO MANY patterns that I want to try, that I can’t imagine WHEN I’ll get to repeat the monkeys !

Hi girls !

Good luck at that doctor’s meeting, GJ…hope you can take the splints off and knit, atleast a little !
I am an English knitter too…that means I throw with the right hand, right?

I finished the socks for the son-in-law. I modeled them after my hubby’s foot size, since I CANNOT get my daughter to measure her little family’s feet for me. She’s probably trying to tell me that she’d like me to actually buy their gifts, but no matter if I won the lottery, I’d always have to put some of myself into my gifts…it’s just who I am. I’d LOVE for someone to take the time to make ME something ! (Actually hubby made me some hand-carved cedar spoons last year for Christmas, and I feel so decadent as I use one as a coffee scoop and the other one to stir my coffee EVERY morning.) To me, there’s NOTHING that compares to a hand-made gift.

Anyway, here’s a shot of my hubby modeling them, and there are more pictures on my flickr page if you’d like to click the link below in my signature !

I mentioned on flickr, but I’ll repeat myself here…I did not care for doing two socks at once on that one 32 inch long circular. Too much of a struggle to keep both pulled up snug and pushed along and all ! Even the fact that both are finished at once is not enough to make me want to do that on a regular basis. But I will keep using the MagicLoop method…I AM A CONVERT ! Sorry, dpns…you’re going onto the shelf !

Sorry I’ve been MIA. I’ve worked on the Gansey a little but would really like to get it done. My Jaywalkers haven’t moved either. Hopefully, I’ll have some quality sock time this weekend.

Dotty…I think you really need 40" for doing ML two at once. And thanks for sharing your shrink page.

I dont have trouble with my wrists but with my eyes :eyes: :oo:. I don’t know if its the fibers flying around or what but I usually have to take my contacts out when I’m knitting.

I can’t remember if I shared my Knit2Purl2 Stash or not but OMG it is BEAUtiful.

droooooooooooooooolllllllllllll ! ! ! ! ! ! !

dotty- great job on those ML socks!
1to1- love the lorna’s stash! happy valley will be mine some day … it’s so, well, happy!

 What’s happy valley?

.
lorna’s laces ‘happy valley’

That’s pretty, alright, but the one you dyed for your Jaywalkers is prettier than that !

Hi everyone,
I’ve been eyeing this thread since yesterday, because I really wanna to try knitting socks. I want to become a sockaholic too!! I’m planning on using Silver’s Sock Classes for my first pair, since I’ve seen so many great reviews. I bought some DPN’s yesterday at the craft store. Some cheapy ones, but I wanna try it out first before I commit to bamboo or something a little more expensive.

A little questionnaire out of curiosity, if you would like to reply:

What type of DPN’s are you using currently? What type do you most prefer and why?

What type of yarn is your favorite for knitting socks?

I am currently in the process of reading all the 300+ posts on this thread, so I can see all that’s been happenning. I hope it’s alright with everyone if I join you. -Ve

Welcome, Veronica…:waving:…there’s plenty of room and enthusiasm for you here !

For starting out, I like the Susan Bates dpns…they’re metal, but have a plasticy coating on them that keeps the stitches from sliding off too easily. I used point protectors at the tips when I began to help keep stitches on the needles…if you’re reading this entire thread, you’ll see lots of tips like that.

As far as yarn goes, I think it’s easier to learn your first sock with a heavier yarn than regular sock/fingering weight. I’d recommend MagicStripes by Lion Brand and a size 3 needle, or even better, a dk or worsted weight yarn with a size 5 or 6 needle. What size needles did you buy yesterday? That will help determine your yarn.

Welcome, Veronica.

I don’t use DPN’s. I use magic loop (long circ) either Addi or KnitPicks. My first sock I used Silver’s 2 at once toe-up tutorial, but I did just one sock. I did a Turkish Cast on instead of the one she shows.

Ve, I’m with GJ try Magic Loop using Silver’s tutorial and try doing only 1 sock at a time. I used Moda Dea Sassy Stripes with Size 4. But then I’ve never tried DPN, I’ve just watched people get frustrated with them.

Howdieee…

1to1 :passedout:…beautiful!!!

GJ~ I Hope everything goes well at the dr

Jeanius~that is a pretty yarn… have you tried dying something similar to it?

Welcome Veronica!! :blooby:It doesn’t take long to get sock addicted lol…

A little questionnaire out of curiosity, if you would like to reply:

What type of DPN’s are you using currently? I use Knit Pick’s Options and Hiya Hiya bamboos they are not expensive at all and I love that I can get them in 5"… KP’s are 6"…
What type do you most prefer and why? It really depends on the design… for a sock that I have to knit on 0s I reach for my KPs because I’m bad to bend my needles and have snapped some bamboos… If the pattern has a lot of decreases to the design I will go with the KPs… other than that I go with the Hiya’s… If the KPs came in a 5" I’d be doing a happy jig and just knitting with them :teehee:

What type of yarn is your favorite for knitting socks? ohhh I don’t know yet lol… Cherry Tree Hill 100% Merino Supersock is really nice… so is WildFoote… I also like Knit Pick’s sock yarns… one day I will try Koigu and Socks that Rock… so many out there that I still have to try…I can’t decide just yet…:teehee:

The first sock yarn I used was Paton’s Kroy and it was nice to work with… I think I used a size 1 or 2 needle…I started my mom out on these slipper socks though… she used size 8 dpns and then felt ready to move to smaller dpns… I have started socks on Magic Loop and 2 circs it isn’t hard either… for some reason though I just stick with my dpns and the socks that I started with 2 circs I changed to dpns lol… I enjoy working with them and have not had any problems… to me I’m faster with dpns… try each way and see what you are more comfy with… remeber when you begin with dpns the first few rnds are going to seem hard just stick with it…does get easier… and when I started on dpns I would take my little girl’s pony tail holders and put them on the ends…I can’t wait to see your first sock :happydance:

dotty - The Susan Bates needles sound like exactly what I would like to get eventually. I only started knitting a few months ago and have acquired all pertinent sizes in straight needles in bamboo. I really enjoy using those to knit with, because I feel that I have a less likely chance to lose any stitches along the way. I don’t think I saw the Magic Stripes yarn at Michael’s yesterday, but next time I am there I will check for it. I picked up size 3 and 6 aluminum DPN’s yesterday (Boyd, I think). It’s all they had!! Or they also had size 8 and 10 bamboo DPN’s, but I figured those were too large.

GJ & 1to1 - Thanks for the advice. I saw Silver’s notation on her tutorial that the toe up on a circ is for a very adventurous beginner or more advanced. I don’t think I’m in quite either of those categories yet. To tell you the truth, I dunno what Magic Loop is? Is it just a regular circular needle? Or are they special? :??

Dustinac - I do like the sound of those 5" bamboo DPN’s. And, for now I really like the feel of bamboo needles while knitting. The cheap ones I got yesterday are 7"!! Maybe I should have waited and purchased better needles at the YLS. I saved those slipper socks to try out. That looks simple enough. I really like the ankle version too. :yay:

I also picked up Bernat Satin yarn while at Michaels to attempt a sock or a pair of socks depending on the outcome. It’s a 100% acrylic and has no stretch, so probably not the best the choice. However, I had a limited selection of yarn and needles to pick from and this was the only one that looked like a match for the size 6 needles. I’m on the 3rd row of ribbing thus far off of the Silver Sock Class, and the sock is looking mighty small in diameter!! :???: Oh well, I wanna to at least attempt to finish to see if I can do all the steps, then I can go buy some much yummier yarn (as the folks say here). -Ve

Knitting supplies are so very hard to get where I live ! The downtown ‘craft’ store carries nothing but Red Heart yarn…every yarn they ever made, apparently ! But she does have the Susan Bates needles, and the ones I was talking about liking are called Quicksilver…I also bought the set that contains 4 different sizes for sock, with 5 of each size included, but they are just painted aluminum, not coated like the Quicksilvers. I understand your quest…I have spent quite a bit of money, building up my dpns, (although I have been fortunate to find them at destash and garage sales ), and now, here I am switching to MagicLoop, and I’m back to shopping for needles again. Yes, MagicLoop is just circular knitting done on one long needle. I have ordered 32 inch needles in size 2.5mm and 2.75mm, from knitpicks and am impatiently waiting on them before I start another pair of socks for myself. I feel disloyal to my dpns if I suggest that you learn to knit socks first on a long circular…strange !
The MagicStripes yarn I found at Hancocks fabrics, but they seem to be phasing it out; thus, the amazing price I got on it at 75% off. You’ll be seeing quite a few socks knitted by me in those stripes until I use the stuff up. But it’s washable wool, and gets nice and soft after the first wash.

Your Boyds will probably serve you well, as they tend to be more ‘pointy’, which really helps when you’re doing a lot of k2tog in a pattern. Sorry about the 7 inch length though…I wouldn’t advise getting more of those to use on socks. Usually, once you get into the smaller size diameter needles, they bring the length down too.

Darn knitpicks is only sending me HALF of my order ! :waah: The rest is backordered…atleast I won’t have to send more shipping.

I know it’s a good thing that I avoid using a credit card, so that I won’t spend money that I don’t have…but it’s infuriating to spend money that I DO have, via checks, and miss out on things I order because they’re sold out and backordered by the time my check reaches them ! :hair:

I feel disloyal to my dpns if I suggest that you learn to knit socks first on a long circular…strange !

LOL :teehee: That makes me smile. Even though I am a new knitter, I am starting to get very attached to my increasingly larger and larger stash and needles. I think Knitpicks is what I may end up ordering for circular needles, because I’ve heard so many good reviews. I also looked at their store online and saw that they offer a “Palette Sampler.” This is 100% wool yarn at a fingering weight. It says that it is good for durable socks. What exactly does this mean? Has anyone tried this yarn? If so, would you recommend it for socks? I like the idea of having 30 different colors to play around with while practicing knitting my socks.

I’ve gotten a little bit of time to knit at work and the sock is getting easier as I get further down the cuff. So far, so good, I think. I thought at first that the opening looked really tight, but as I keep knitting the opening is really stretchy because of the ribbing and it’s bigger than I first thought it would be. I might get to wear these after all! :yay: -Ve

Well, the news from the Dr. wasn’t good. He’s having me do a nerve test with another doc next week and also OT & PT.
Still have splints on both hands. Can’t knit.:waah:
It’s SO HARD! :wall:

I usemy check card…no interest!

I use KnitPicks and Clover. I love the KP needles because the just glides over the needles. I only have one set of bamboo db needles, which I used to knit my first pair of socks. bamboo is better beginners because the yarn doesn’t slip off as much as on metal needles, but they are still great too knit with.

What type of yarn is your favorite for knitting socks?
Superwash is great, but I don’t it much, I love Merino Wool, its so soft. It’s like wrapping your feet in a cloud.

I hope I helpped at least somewhat! Welcome to the KAL!! IT’s great to have you.:woohoo:
