Any Sock KAL

can someone give me a push? I’m at the point where the leg is done and now I’m supposed to start the heel flap, but the pattern just seems like Chinese to me. So I got frustrated and started on the mini sock from SKS :frowning: Can someone decipher this in Kindergarten speed for me please???
Heel Flap:
Row 1: Sl 1 as if to purl *(k1, sl 1 as if to knit), repeat from *, end in k1
Row 2: Sl 1 as if to purl, p to end of row
Continue rows 1 and 2 for 30 rows total.
I’m working ML so I’m not sure what I’m doing here…is this across one whole side??? And then I turn and work the other side of this, right? I’m so lost sigh

Dotty, I love love the colors in those socks…they just look warm and snuggly…I can’t wait til I can knit socks like that

Okay, I’ll try to help.
First of all, the heel is going to be worked on HALF of your total sock stitches, so, with MagicLoop, that will be ONE needle side. And, yes, you’re going to be turning that one needle, and working back and forth on only that one needle, instead of going in rounds.
Secondly, every row will begin with a slip stitch that is slipped as if to purl. Now, I’m used to the ‘knit one, slip one’ part on the right side row, but I never slipped as if to knit. I always slip as if to purl there. But you should do it the way that they say,… so that would be – slip the first stitch as if to purl, then for the rest of that row you will alternate…knit one, slip one as if to knit, knit one, slip one as if to knit…
At the end of that needle, just turn it around (it’ll be kind of crowded with the second needleful of stitches sitting on the cable in the way until you get a few rows done), and on the wrong side, slip the first stitch as if to purl, and then purl the rest of the way across.

Hubby says it’s time to quit the computer…2 a.m. here, so I’ll check this tomorrow and see if I was able to help you at all. Be sure and speak up if I wasn’t clear !

Great socks everyone.

I’ve had real trouble to read everything, since I’m still a bit short on time (I wasn’t obducted by aliens or anything, just a bit busy).

As for my breeze, that’s not working either. Still working on the heel flap, but I just don’t have time to make some real progress. I’m also working on a fair isle sweater and I really want that don before winter starts, so that has priority now.

Here’s the first one!!!

:woot:rachel those are awesome!! do you care to share the pattern?

knitwit~can’t wait to see the second sock…

dotty  I’ve never gotten to the heel of a ML sock but wondered how it would work…

thank you so much Dotty, now it seems easier to understand…I’ll give it a go today and let ya know

Rachel, those socks are awesome!!!

Oh, my Gosh, redheadrachel,

 that sock is beautiful !

Do you do a duplicate stitch after the sock is done, to get the little purple diamond part ?

wow ! Just wow, wow, wow !

Hey everyone! It’s a vintage sock pattern that a lady from my LYS has, so I don’t know where you can get it. I did the green and purple lines with duplicate stitch. Thanks for the awesome feedback!

dustinac, the first time I tried magicloop, I knitted one sock at a time, cuff down, and did a short-row heel…no problem at all. This time, I’m doing two at a time, cuff down, and heel flap, and it’s been unbelievably crowded…I wouldn’t recommend that for the first time trying MagicLoop. Of course, it wouldn’t be AS crowded if I moved the stitches so that the left side of the foot is on one needle, and the right side on the other (you can easily do that if you have only one sock on the needles) , but it gets complicated with two, so I went ahead and left the heel plus gussets on the first needle, and the instep on the second ! Luckily, I’m about 3 decrease rounds (6 rounds altogether) away from getting back to my original 28 stitches on each side.

I took a break from the socks for a couple of days, and am playing around with a headband pattern. I have this gorgeous superwash handpainted sock yarn from Etsy that is tightly wrapped, and behaves more like a cotton than a wool. It hasn’t been soft enough when knitted into anything else that I’ve tried, so I thought I’d try the headband. It’s looking and feeling great. But I had no idea that “yo, k2tog” on every other row could be so hard to get into. I had to go down a needle size to find needles in my stash that were ‘pointy’ enough to get in there, and even now it’s ‘work’ ! I think it’s mostly because there is no stretch to this particular yarn.

Here’s the pattern , if anyone is interested…there are 3 different versions of a headband.

It’s a free download from knitpicks. I’ll put a picture on my flickr page when it’s finished, rather than here, since this IS a SOCK knitalong…

Rachel, your sock looks awesome! It’s really great!

Thank you dotty

Rachel~that’s ok…I did some googling and found some that might work… I’m trying to find a pattern that I don’t have to go back and do the duplicate stitch on :teehee:

I like the head bands will it stay in your hair though? I have that problem with my dream swatch I have to use hair pins to get it to stay…

Still no work on my sock :tap: and now I want to move on to a different pattern/yarn and I haven’t even finished one pattern repeat of this sock…:teehee:

Wow! Everyone’s socks look great! My email isn’t working right, so I haven’t been here for a week or so.

And my hands are still both in splints, so I haven’t been knitting. It’s killing me! I have about 10 rows left on my second sock (first pair), but it hurts to knit, so it sits and taunts me! :wall:

I’ve been trying to decide what socks to knit next with my Sockotta…If I can knit again. :hair:

Awwww…GJ, I’m so sorry. But look at it this way…you’re helping your fellow knitters by still posting. I’m making myself take it a little easier, since I’ve heard of your troubles. Mine are out there lurking all the time.

Does anyone else get aches in their left elbow from this knitting? My left arm is definitely affected  !

I wore my finished headband all evening after it dried from blocking yesterday, and it stayed put perfectly. I must have gotten the length right, for a change. They said 19 inches, but I measured my head and it said 23 inches (must have gotten the big head from the compliments you girls have given me on my socks), so I knitted until I could bump the two ends together without the headband trying to slip up the back of my head. Then I started the garter stitch part with the buttonholes. You want to make sure it has to stretch a little bit, so mine blocked out at 21 inches. I really like it……

What style do you knit? I’m an English knitter. I wonder if it makes a difference. Of course, my problems started 2 yrs b/f I started knitting. I ruptured the tendon in my right arm. They had to re-build it and now scar tissue is pressing on a nerve. That’s the right hand. They told me I could still knit with the right in a splint, but when I did, it made my thumb joint hurt. Arthritis, they say. So it’s in a splint. I tried knitting in the splints, but it hurts too much.

Hello! Is anyone else having trouble with uploading photos? The attachment screen tries to show, kinda flashes and goes away. Weird. I’ve been trying for a couple of days, and can’t get it to work! :???:samm

samm,
Are you resizing them so they’re not too big?

:hug:GJ:hug:

dotty~it looks good

samm~I just posted pictures in the off topic without any problems

ok so I want to knit the snowflake socks in the IK but I don’t want to buy the Lorna’s sport weight sock yarn suggested… trying to save money… so do you think I could get buy with Knit picks Telemark since it is a sport weight and cheaper? It should work…I think…:teehee:

The only time I have trouble with my wrists is when I knit without taking breaks… usually when I’m trying to get something done by a certain time… I try not to do that anymore…normally my right wrist will hurt first but I knit contiental…

ohh and I found thisfor argyle socks…still not knit in the round though but I might just go with it…I already have some yarn I could use too… yeah I haven’t went back to the scrolls socks yet LOL…

Thanks for all the hugs, friends! I go to the Dr. tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice with the attachment manager thingy. I did get the screen to stay put, but will have to resize the photos first. Maybe later! I just wanted to say that the Monkey Socks are so much fun! I’m having to do them in tiny bits of time, because I want to finish Hey Mickey for my DGD. What a neat pattern they are! Not difficult at all, and my brain is capable of concentrating enough! Yay brain!!! I’ll try to get the photos entered later. samm
